North Korea to launch satellite for monitoring US military drills with South

North Korea is reportedly planning to launch its first military spy satellite into orbit for monitoring U.S. military drills with South Korea

The announcement came a day after North Korea informed Japan that it plans to launch a satellite sometime between May 31 and June 11 — despite the United Nations prohibiting it from engaging in such activity.

It’s not clear whether North Korea’s satellite will be advanced enough to track and monitor U.S. and South Korean activities in real time.

North Korea placed Earth-observation satellites in orbit in 2012 and 2016, though their capabilities have been questioned.

Foreign experts have said those earlier satellites never transmitted imagery back to North Korea, and analysts say the new device displayed in state media in recent weeks appeared too small and crudely designed to process and transfer high-resolution imagery.

NORTH KOREA INFANT JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER PARENTS FOUND WITH BIBLE ACCORDING TO RECENT REPORT

Satellite images taken Tuesday by Planet Labs PBC and analyzed by The Associated Press, showed the massive orange gantry at a main pad at North Korea's Sohae Satellite Launching Station.

The gantry houses a rocket on the launch pad. Next to the gantry, a long, rectangular object could be seen with two other objects nearby. Those objects hadn't been seen in prior days' images of the site — and could potentially be rocket parts.

Since the start of 2022, North Korea has test-fired around 100 missiles, including ICBMs designed to reach the U.S. mainland and a slew of launches it described as simulated nuclear attacks on targets in South Korea.

North Korea has said its intensified testing activity is meant to counter its rivals' joint military exercises as it continues to use those drills as a pretext to advance its arsenal of nuclear-capable weapons.

The North has long regarded U.S.-South Korean military exercises as a dress rehearsal for an invasion. Washington and Seoul describe their regular military exercises as defensive, and have expanded their training since 2022 to cope with North Korea's evolving threats.

Han Sung Geun, spokesperson of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said during a briefing that the South Korean and U.S. militaries were closely watching North Korea over the possible satellite launch and other provocative military moves.

Geun did not provide specific assessments about the potential capabilities of the North Korean satellite and refused to say whether the South Korean military was preparing for the possibility that debris could fall in nearby waters.

Texas firefighter stabbed while putting out early morning fire on I-35

An Austin, Texas firefighter was stabbed overnight while putting out fires along I-35 near the downtown area.

The Austin Fire Department posted to Facebook that the firefighter was working several fires near I-35 and Riverside Drive.

As crews were putting out the fires, a person, later identified as Kelly Ingroum, approached them and became aggressive before stabbing one of the firefighters in the thigh, according to Austin police.

The fire department said the victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Freedom Caucus members call on McCarthy to scrap debt ceiling agreement with Biden: ‘Bad deal’

House Freedom Caucus members on Tuesday said they would oppose the debt ceiling agreement reached by President Biden House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and called on McCarthy to scrap the weekend deal to work on something that would more aggressively cut back on government spending.

Ten members of the caucus told reporters that the deal allows for unlimited borrowing, includes cuts that mostly reflect emergency COVID spending that should be ending anyway, and fails to include measures for border security. House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Penn., described the deal as "absolutely and completely unacceptable."

HOUSE REPUBLICAN DISMISSES 'COLORFUL CONSERVATIVES' UPSET OVER DEBT CEILING DEAL: 'GOING TO PASS'

"We will do everything in our power to disrupt it," Perry said. "I am focused on defeating this bill."

It wasn't clear as of Thursday that enough Republicans would oppose the agreement to have it fail in the House on Wednesday. Several Democrats are likely to vote for it in a show of support to Biden, and as of Tuesday, only about two dozen Republicans had announced they will either vote against it or are thinking of voting against it.

But Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, suggested McCarthy may struggle to get the necessary votes to pass his plan.

"I don’t think he even has a majority of his own conference at this point — we'll find out later today," Roy said. "I want to be very clear: not one Republican should vote for this deal."

SPEAKER MCCARTHY DEFENDS BUDGET COMPROMISE AS CONSERVATIVES BALK: 'A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION'

McCarthy and his Republican allies who helped negotiate the deal with Biden tout that it cuts some unused COVID-19 pandemic funds, and partially limits expansions made to the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act.

But Lauren Boebert, R-Col., said the deal provides Biden with a "blank check."

"Tomorrow's bill is a bunch of fake news and fake talking points that will do nothing to rein in out of control federal spending," Boebert said. "If every Republican voted the way they campaigned, they would vote against tomorrow’s bad deal because this is the very thing we campaigned to put an end to."

Rep. Andre Clyde, R-Ga., said the deal's bill name, the Fiscal Responsibility Act, is ironic.

"In truth there is nothing responsible about it — make no mistake this is the Fiscal Irresponsibility Act," Clyde said. "This isn’t a win for the American people, it’s a win for Washington."

Teenage girl charged with killing 19 in school dorm fire after cell phone confiscated: report

A 15-year-old schoolgirl from Guyana was charged Monday as an adult for the murder of 19 people after police accused her of purposefully setting fire to a school dormitory in retaliation for her cell phone being confiscated.

The fire killed 18 of her schoolmates and a five-year-old boy trapped inside the building after a dorm matron locked the doors from the inside to prevent the female students, aged 12-18, from sneaking out to socialize with males from a nearby mining town.

How the fire was started has not yet been made clear.

AT LEAST 20 STUDENTS KILLED IN GUYANA DORMITORY FIRE

A court south of the capital of Georgetown ordered that the 15-year-old girl be held in custody pending further hearings after she appeared virtually for the proceedings Monday.

She has not yet been permitted to plead guilty or not guilty to the charges and will appear for another court hearing July 5.

State and defense attorneys will then decide whether they are ready to start a preliminary trial.

The 15-year-old could face up to life in prison if she is found guilty of purposefully setting fire to the Mahdia Secondary School earlier this month.

A Tampa, Florida, man was arrested on Sunday afternoon after allegedly pouring gasoline on another man and setting him ablaze, according to law enforcement officials.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that at about 4:30 p.m. on May 28, two men got into a verbal argument at a Mobile gas station on 22nd Street in Tampa.

Earl Hargrove, Jr., 34, was one of the men in the argument, and after the confrontation, police said, he purchased some gasoline from the pump.

Hargrove then allegedly poured the gas on the victim before lighting him on fire.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the victim, but said he was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

"A verbal argument should never escalate to this level of violence," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "This suspect’s behavior is not only deplorable but will never be tolerated in our community. The suspect, in this case, is currently behind bars while we wait in anticipation for justice to be served."

Father of high school female skier who lost state title to transgender says competition 'not fair' for girls

A transgender female won the California-Nevada high school girls' skiing championship in March, and the father of one of the competitors is speaking out.

June Watterson, a sophomore, won the girls' state title on March 6, winning by 17 seconds. While competing against girls in skiing, she remains in the boys' category for swimming.

But a competitor's father says the skiing competition is unfair with Watterson competing.

"Hormones and drugs are just introducing drugs into sport. It's not fair on the girls. I'm all about being inclusive and accepting people, but they have men racing in women's sports," the parent said to Daily Mail.

The parent asked to stay anonymous due to potential backlash against him and his daughter, but his feelings remain strong and clear.

"It's pretty clear to me or anyone with a brain that if you are going through or have gone through male puberty then you should only race against people who have gone through or are going through male puberty," he said.

SPORTS COLUMNIST CALLS ESPN'S SAM PONDER SUPPORT FOR FAIRNESS IN WOMEN'S SPORTS 'PLAIN OLD BIGOTRY'

The parent said the team was forced to "come to terms" with the situation and placed blame on the organizers of the competition.

"These kids, they are kids, [and] live in the world adults have created. I don't blame the winning athlete. This is a failure at the administrative level and higher," he said.

"I'll point out the obvious: you ruin women's sports by allowing males to compete in women's sports."

Japanese PM's son resigns government post over executive residence partying scandal

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Monday his son is resigning as his executive policy secretary to take responsibility for using the prime minister’s residence for a private party at which the merrymaking was exposed in magazine photos that triggered public outrage.

Shotaro Kishida, his father’s executive secretary for political affairs and eldest son, invited a group of people including relatives to a year-end party on Dec. 30 at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence.

Photos published by the weekly Shukan Bunshun magazine showing Kishida's son and his relatives posing on red-carpeted stairs in an imitation of the group photos taken of newly appointed Cabinets, with his son at the center — the position reserved for the prime minister. Other photos showed guests standing at a podium as if holding a news conference.

JAPAN’S PRIME MINISTER RAISES ALARM OVER HISTORIC POPULATION DECLINE; IT’S ‘NOW OR NEVER’ TO REVERSE TREND

"As secretary for (the prime minister's) political affairs, a public position, his actions were inappropriate and I decided to replace him to have him take responsibility," Kishida told reporters Monday night. He said his son will be replaced with another secretary, Takayoshi Yamamoto, on Thursday.

Kishida acknowledged that he had briefly greeted the guests but said he didn't stay at the dinner party.

He said he severely reprimanded his son for the party, but that failed to quell ongoing criticism from opposition lawmakers and public outrage which have pushed down his support ratings.

JAPANESE SUSPECT THROWS SMOKE BOMB AT PRIME MINISTER, GETS TACKLED ON VIDEO

Kishida appointed his son as policy secretary, one of eight secretary posts for the prime minister, in October. The appointment, seen as a step in grooming him as his heir, was criticized as nepotism, which is common in Japanese politics, long dominated by hereditary lawmakers. His son was previously his father's private secretary.

It was not the first time Kishida's son has come under fire for making use of his official position for private activities. He was reprimanded for using embassy cars for private sightseeing in Britain and Paris and for buying souvenirs for Cabinet members at a luxury department store in London when he accompanied his father on trips.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno earlier called the son's party at the official residence "inappropriate" and promised to ensure proper management of the facility to prevent future misuse.

The nearly 100-year-old building previously was the prime minister's office and became the living quarters in 2005 when a new office was built.

Kyle Kirkwood flips in scary Indy 500 crash, tire flies over catch fence

The Indianapolis 500 was briefly paused on Sunday following a scary crash involving Kyle Kirkwood and Felix Rosenqvist with about 17 laps to go in the race.

Rosenqvist was cruising along the wall when he brushed up against it and lost control. He spun out, bringing out a caution flag immediately. As he was spinning, Kirkwood was trying to zoom past him but didn’t get by cleanly.

House Republican dismisses 'colorful conservatives' upset over debt ceiling deal: 'Going to pass'

Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., said Sunday that a debt ceiling agreement is "going to pass," and that only a small portion of the "most colorful conservatives" in Congress oppose it.

Johnson, chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus and a lead negotiator on the debt ceiling, dismissed criticisms from Freedom Caucus members who claim the reported agreement Saturday reached with the White House is a loss for the GOP. The deal, he said, is "fantastic," and will be passed with a strong majority.

"When we say conservatives are against it, I want to make it clear, I don’t know a single one of the mainstream caucus conservatives," Johnson said Sunday on CNN. "There will be Freedom Caucus members that vote for this package. So when you’re saying that conservatives have concerns, it is really the most colorful conservatives. Some of those guys you mentioned didn’t vote for the thing when it was kind of a Republican wish list."

The deal, struck between House Republicans and the White House, would cut some unused COVID-19 emergency funds, as well as a portion of funds granted to the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act, multiple sources told Fox News and Fox News Digital. The debt limit would be suspended until after the 2024 presidential election.

SPEAKER MCCARTHY DEFENDS BUDGET COMPROMISE AS CONSERVATIVES BALK: 'A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION'

Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., said the agreed deal is far from conservative.

"I am hearing the ‘deal’ is for a $4 trillion increase in the debt limit," Good tweeted Saturday. "IF that is true, I don’t need to hear anything else. No one claiming to be a conservative could justify a YES vote."

Johnson dismissed Good’s criticism in his CNN interview as irrelevant bickering.

"Let’s be honest, Bob Good will not vote for this thing," Johnson said. "It doesn’t matter if Mother Theresa came back from the dead and called him. He’s not voting for it. He was never going to. This is going to pass."

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, detailed his concerns with the debt ceiling agreement Sunday in a series of tweets. This included a criticism of the estimated $4 trillion cost of the agreement, a lack of budget cuts, no work requirements for Medicare, and a failure to include measures for border security.

DEM REP IS 'ANYTHING BUT A CLEAR YES' ON DEBT CEILING BILL, CALLS NEGOTIATIONS 'HOSTAGE-TAKING PROCESS'

"There are members of the GOP claiming Democrats got nothing from the ‘deal.’ Oh really?" Roy tweeted as he listed his criticisms.

Johnson said he talked to roughly three dozen House Republicans about the agreement with the White House, all of which he claimed supported it.

"Everybody I’m talking to understands that when you’re reducing spending, when you’re peeling back the regulatory state, when you are unlocking American energy, when you are getting people back to work, this is a big deal," Johnson said.

Speaker McCarthy brushed off any concerns that conservative hardliners could move to take away his gavel over the bill, declaring he was "not at all" concerned about that.

"We did a conference call with our conference, and over 95% were overwhelmingly excited about what they see. They haven't had – they're getting the text today," McCarthy said. "You're gonna have Republicans and Democrats be able to move this to the president."

Cluster of recent shark attacks makes headlines as summer kickoff approaches: 'Scary event'

WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS GRAPHIC PHOTOS

Multiple unprovoked shark attacks against swimmers and fishermen in recent weeks have left beachgoers on edge ahead of summer and for Memorial Day weekend.

An American tourist was left in critical condition last week after losing her leg to a shark while vacationing in the Caribbean archipelago of Turks and Caicos.

The 22-year-old Connecticut female, who has not been identified, was snorkeling with friends off the coast of Providenciales island when the shark attacked, according to police.

HOW TO PREVENT SHARK ATTACK THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: AVOID SPEARFISHING, DR GAVIN NAYLOR SAYS

Days before the incident in Turks and Caicos, a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl suffered injuries consistent with a shark attack while she was surfing off the coast of Stone Harbor in southern New Jersey, according to Fox 29.

The girl suffered lacerations to her leg and required six stitches after she was rescued from the water, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

"After careful examination, it has been ascertained by the New Jersey State Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office that the injuries sustained by the surfer are consistent with those typically associated with a shark of unknown size and type," Stone Harbor officials said in a statement.

SHARK SWIMS UNDER KAYAKERS' BOAT: SEE SHOCKING MOMENT CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Earlier this month, two fishermen in the Florida Keys were bitten by sharks in separate incidents that occurred within less than 36 hours.

Kevin Blanco, 20, from Miami-Dade County was bitten in the leg on May 18 while spearfishing with two other people off Marathon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. He was picked up by a medical helicopter after he was taken to shore by a private boat.

Blanco told WSVN-TV from his hospital bed at Jackson South Medical Center in Miami that the bull shark that went after him "came out of nowhere" and chomped down on his leg twice.

SHARK SWIMS UNDER KAYAKERS' BOAT: SEE SHOCKING MOMENT CAUGHT ON CAMERA

"I’ve been in that same situation a lot of times, and they are usually afraid of us," Blanco told the outlet. "That one was not afraid of us. He wanted me. It was a scary event."

Hours before Blanco had his run-in with a shark, a 35-year-old fisherman in Summerland Key was bitten on the foot after reeling the shark in while fishing off a dock, according to the sheriff’s office.

Scott Haraguchi recorded a tiger shark biting his kayak in Hawaii on May 12, and he told KITV in Honolulu that he was able to capture the moment with his GoPro because he had forgotten to turn it off after recording himself catching a fish.

"It was incredibly bad luck, but incredibly good luck to capture it," he told the outlet.

FLORIDA SPEARFISHERMAN SURVIVES BULL SHARK ATTACK: ‘HE WANTED ME’

Despite the recent attacks, unprovoked shark bites are rare and fatal ones are especially uncommon.

There were approximately 70 to 80 unprovoked shark bites each year worldwide over the past decade, with only 57 unprovoked bites in 2022. Of those, five were fatal, down from nine in 2021, according to data from the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File.

Most reported shark bites happen in the U.S. and Australia, with Florida logging the highest number of incidents last year with 16, two of which led to amputations.

USS Wasp docks in NYC for Fleet Week: Inside the amphibious warship that aids Navy, Marine operations

Fleet Week 2023 is on a roll in New York City, kicking off with the impressive arrival of the naval warship USS Wasp.

The USS Wasp (LHD 1) is an amphibious warship occupied by both the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps.

An amphibious assault ship is designed to deploy and support ground forces on shore, with the capability to host tanks, helicopters, cargo and a variety of support vehicles.

US NAVY, FDNY COLLABORATE IN HUDSON RIVER DIVE TRAINING AT USS INTREPID: ‘PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY’

The ship pulled into New York City’s Pier 88 on Wednesday, May 24, for the start of this year’s Fleet Week, which celebrates the service of U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel.

The sprawling vessel made its grand entrance as the finale of the ceremonial Parade of Ships, which included a flyover and a salute from both Navy sailors and Marines surrounding the perimeter of the flight deck.

While the mere presence of the massive USS Wasp sparks national pride, operations inside the warship are also an all-American effort.

The 843-foot-long ship, commissioned in 1989, has two main boilers and five steam turbine generators, Sean Gehrold, chief interior communications electrician, told Fox News Digital.

COMFORT FOR MILITARY FAMILIES: US NONPROFIT HOUSES LOVED ONES OF INJURED, FALLEN SERVICE MEMBERS

The ship can carry up to 3,000 people at full capacity, as well as equipment such as landing craft air cushion (LCAC) and landing craft utility (LCU) vessels.

David Forster, chairman of the Amphibious Warship Industrial Base Coalition, provided more detail on the inner workings of the USS Wasp in a separate interview with Fox News Digital.

"It houses the U.S. military’s most important weapon, which is the Marine Corps and the Navy," said Forster, based in Washington, D.C.

The ship’s "intended purpose" is to transport its members to serve in specific areas of need, including humanitarian relief, protection of the homeland from amphibious assault, national security and other missions, Forster explained.

The mission at hand is dependent on the type of equipment brought onto the ship, whether it's cargo or aircraft, such as rescue helicopters.

The ship is uniquely equipped to hoist and house various heavy materials — from the well deck at the back of the ship, which lifts equipment in and out of the vessel, to the expansive hangar bay and flat-top flight deck, where aircraft can safely land.

VET WHO LOST MILITARY ‘BROTHERS’ TO POST-WAR SUICIDE CALLS FOR URGENT CHANGE: ‘WE COULD DO BETTER’

"That flexibility is what really makes these ships such an asset to our national security," Forster said.

The Wasp has other unique characteristics, including its ability to carry many service members while maintaining its station for "long periods of time," and to communicate with other vessels.

Producing a warship of this caliber was a collaborative effort, Forster disclosed. Businesses nationwide helped work on the USS Wasp, which was produced at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Building the Wasp cost between $4 billion to $6 billion, said Forster.

"It takes the industrial capacity of the United States to produce that ship," he said. "That’s why they’re so magnificent … It takes America to make this ship."

Being on board is a team effort, said Navy Officer Ray Sgambati, who commands a division of 13 sailors on the USS Wasp.

"Everyone has a part to play," he said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

"Everyone minds their Ps and Qs as much as possible to support their other sailors, whether that’s repair division, supply, cooking the food or driving the ship."

US NAVY DISPLAYS TIMES SQUARE DIVE TANK DURING FLEET WEEK

"When we’re out there on the ocean, it’s only us to keep us safe," he added. "So, we figure it out and rely on each other."

As the first of eight Wasp-class multipurpose amphibious assault ships, the Wasp will also be the flagship of the Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) upon deployment, Sgambati said.

From the Wasp's flight deck overlooking the New York City skyline, Lt. (j.g.) Howe shared with Fox News Digital how the ship’s amphibious and communicative operations give both sailors and Marines the ability to "do whatever the country needs us to do at a moment’s notice."

Howe, a Navy sailor of 12 years, expressed his gratitude for being entrusted with the equipment kept on deck, including an AV-88 Osprey.

"It’s very humbling," he said. "I see it as a blessing every day."

US MARINE CORPS VETERAN WHO LOST LEGS IN AFGHANISTAN SAYS A NONPROFIT HELPED HIM STAY ALIVE

Chief Gehrold shared that what he loves most about serving on the Wasp are the people.

"We can do so many missions. We can do things that nobody has ever seen before in the world," he said. "But the people are generally what makes the Navy a great place, especially on the USS Wasp."

Navy Machinist Mate (MM3) Paris Walker, who works as a boiler technician on the Wasp, compared the environment on the ship to a "family."

"When you go on board, you notice that everybody’s welcome," he said.

Fellow MM3 Lillian Kidd mentioned the friendships she’s made aboard the Wasp.

"Engineering is a big department … but we come together as a whole family," she said. "If someone needs help, we’re all there to help them."

The ship brings together people from diverse backgrounds and cities across the nation, added Navy Logistics Specialist (LS2) Blasina Salazar.

The Marine Corps is "big on camaraderie," which helps everyone get through tough times, Marine Corps Private First Class (PFC) Jayden Leon shared with Fox News Digital.

Navy LS2 Rodrigo Baltazar described how special it's been to have the chance to "travel the world" on the Wasp to destinations including Japan, Australia, Chile and Brazil.

While the job can require late nights, the deck department is "like a brotherhood," said Navy Boatswain’s Mate (BM2) Nelson Jiminian, whose duties include driving the ship.

MEET THE AMERICAN WHO EARNED THE MEDAL OF HONOR AND WAS MIA IN KOREA FOR 73 YEARS, CPL. LUTHER HERSCHEL STORY

"We get to drive a multi-billion-dollar ship," said the Bronx-born Jiminian. "It’s not an easy thing to do. It’s sometimes nerve-wracking, especially pulling into New York."

Forster, with the Amphibious Warship Industrial Base Coalition, echoed that the mere scale of the Wasp pulling into New York City brings great national pride.

"That presence around the globe either brings fear to the hearts of the enemy or brings peace to the people we serve," he said. "And you can’t get around that response."

While Fleet Week is an opportunity for members of America's military to enjoy some time off in the Big Apple, Sgambati mentioned that it’s also a "great opportunity" to showcase the Navy's capabilities.

"I’m just proud to be here," said Sgambati, who is from West Islip, New York.

"Growing up native to New York, I’ve been seeing Fleet Weeks all my life … It’s an honor to be here."

U.S. Navy ceremonial guard Lt. Stephan Acevedo, whose unit rang in the USS Wasp’s arrival with a nine-man drill performance, emphasized the importance of "bridging the gap" between soldiers and civilians.

"The American people can see our service members … and it helps them understand a little more about what we do and [realize] that we’re people, too," he said.

"We’re all here to have a good time."

Fleet Week is an opportunity for the three branches to show how "closely" they work together as "one nation united," added Brooklyn-born MM3 Walker.

Salazar, from Washington Heights, New York, said she’s "just proud to serve the country" and wants to share that sentiment with her fellow proud Americans.

Lance Corporal Johnathan Romero, born and raised in Coney Island, Brooklyn, told Fox News Digital that being back with his fellow New Yorkers feels "amazing."

"They remember me as this little kid playing basketball, and now I’m looking good in uniform," the Marine said.

Romero added, "I know the younger ones are watching me, so I’m going to inspire them to do better … to be disciplined, persevere through adversity and take care of your family."

Aliens 'have been on Earth a long time': Stanford Professor

A Stanford University pathology professor said, "Aliens have been on Earth for a long time and are still here," and claims there are experts working on reverse engineering unknown crashed crafts.

Dr. Garry Nolan made the bold statements during last week's SALT iConnections conference in Manhattan during a session called, "The Pentagon, Extraterrestrial Intelligence and Crashed UFOs."

The host, Alex Klokus, said that's tough to believe and asked him to assign a probability to that statement that extraterrestrial life visited Earth

"100 percent," Nolan responded.

‘UFO’ SPOTTED LURKING ABOVE U.S.' LARGEST MARINE BASE: 'WE GOT ALIENS

"I think it's an advanced form of intelligence that using some kind of intermediaries," Nolan said. "It's not that they walk among us wearing a skin suit. You're going to put something there that I think of as an intelligence test."

He said it’s like the South American native tribes when they first saw the Spanish ships. They didn’t know what they were seeing but it was out of the ordinary.

FOOTAGE OF UFOS OVER CONFLICT ZONES SEEN FOR FIRST TIME: ‘THIS IS DEVASTATING’

They didn't know what they were seeing or who or what was coming, Nolan said.

"They're showing up and saying who amongst you are intelligent enough to realize what it is you're looking at … "Can you see what's in front of you for what it really is? Can you see the anomalous data point?"

WATCH GARRY NOLAN'S FULL TALK

The "most compelling evidence," according to Nolan, is how the U.S. government has handled UAPs - unidentified anomalous phenomena, which is government-derived word that means UFO - over the last couple of years.

That includes the creation of The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) within in the Department of Defense, which is tasked with investigating potential UFO sightings, and public Senate hearings on UFO.

‘RUNAWAY FIREBALL’ COULD BE ALIEN PROBE THAT CRASHED OFF COAST OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA: HARVARD SCIENTIST

The most recent hearing was held on April 19 in front of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, which Nolan said "created a hornet's nest in Washington."

"Then my personal experiences with one individual who was involved in collecting the original information," Nolan said, "and my experiences with people who have worked or working on reverse engineering programs of downed crafts."

Nolan said that he knew people who were working on reverse engineering a downed craft.

Some of these unknown crafts have been captured on video performing maneuvers never seen before and seemingly defy the laws of physics.

UFO SENATE HEARING: PENTAGON OFFICAL ‘CONCERNED ABOUT CHINA AND RUSSIA’S ‘ADVANCED TECH’

"A tiny piece of knowledge from that could revolutionize what we're doing," Nolan said. "I'm always looking for the opportunity. I'm looking at the upside of this.

"I'm not worried about (aliens) coming and raiding us or taking our women and children. That's not my concern. My concern is how do we use it."

During the April 19 UFO Senate hearing, AARO Director Sean Kirkpatrick said there's no definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life.

"Of the cases that are showing some sort of advanced technical signature … I am concerned about what that nexus is," Kirkpatrick said after he was asked about Russia and China's capabilities to attack and surveil U.S. interests.

"I have indicators that some are related to foreign capabilities. We have to investigate that with our [intelligence community] partners."

He didn't expound on what the "indicators" are.

The AARO director said he's talking about a "single percentage" of all the cases analyzed, which he said is about 650 reports, and it's difficult to definitively determine the object's origin without seeing a country's flag on the side of the object.

NBA opens investigation into Twitter account with heavy activity toward referee: report

The NBA is reportedly investigating a Twitter account that may have belonged to NBA referee Eric Lewis.

The account replied mostly to tweets involving Lewis, prompting the investigation, NBA reporter Marc Stein noted.

When the account was unearthed, it had zero followers and followed just five other accounts: the NBA, three other referee accounts and the George Mason women's basketball account.

Lewis' wife, Vanessa Blair-Lewis, is the team's head coach.

Texas House committee debates impeaching Attorney General Ken Paxton

A Texas House of Representatives investigative committee recommended impeachment for embattled state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The Texas House Investigative Committee unanimously voted 5-0 to adopt articles of impeachment for Paxton on Thursday, according to FOX 4.

The House convened Saturday, during Memorial Day weekend, to begin debate over whether to indict the state's chief law enforcement officer in his impeachment.

In Texas, an impeachment from the House would require Paxton to leave his office immediately pending a trial in the Senate.

TEXAS AG PAXTON SLAPS BIDEN ADMIN WITH LAWSUIT OVER USE OF CBP ONE APP: 'PRE-APPROVING MORE FOREIGN ALIENS'

The committee vote comes as Paxton is under investigation in a corruption case being led by the FBI over accusations that the attorney general used his office to assist a donor. He was also indicted in 2015 on securities and fraud charges, but hasn't yet faced a trial.

Multiple aides from Paxton's office became concerned that the attorney general was misusing the office's power to help donor Nate Paul regarding unproven claims of a conspiracy to steal $200 million of his properties was taking place.

Paxton also allegedly told staff members that he had an affair with a woman who worked for Paul.

In the articles of impeachment, lawmakers accuse Paxton of misusing public information law, using his office to help a donor, terminating employees who reported his "unlawful" conduct, bribery, misleading public officials, and more.

New Jersey names state sandwich after Taylor Swift: 'We've been waiting for you'

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) declared "Taylor Swift Ham, Egg, and Cheese" as the official state sandwich of New Jersey on Thursday, May 25, ahead of the singer's concert dates in the state.

"Welcome to New Jersey. We’ve been waiting for you," Murphy tweeted, referencing Swift's 2014 song "Welcome to New York."

In a video attached to the tweet, Murphy explained that "In New Jersey, we have a reputation for a great war between Taylor ham and pork roll."

TAYLOR SWIFT QUIZ! HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE FAMOUS POP MUSICIAN?

"Taylor ham" and "pork roll" are two names for the same product, says the website "Jersey Pork Roll."

The product is typically called "Taylor ham" in the northern part of the state.

Invented in Trenton in 1856 by state senator John Taylor, pork roll is heavily processed meat that is sold in cylindrical tubes, said the site. It is typically sliced, fried and served in a breakfast sandwich

"Usually, we let you call it what you want, but since we have a superstar coming to town, we know all too well that we should commemorate the occasion," said Gov. Murphy in the video.

"We are declaring the official state sandwich of New Jersey a Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese," Murphy also said.

"Welcome to New Jersey, Taylor! We've been waiting for you, and it would have been a cruel summer without you."

The Garden State governor also tweeted an image of a proclamation — chock full of Taylor Swift song and album references to boot — declaring that "The Taylor Swift Ham, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich" is the state sandwich of New Jersey.

The tweet was shared across New Jersey's official state social media accounts.

Swift is playing three sold-out shows of "The Eras Tour" on May 26, 27, and 28 at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

On Wednesday, Swift tweeted that a new edition of her latest album, "Midnights," would be available exclusively to attendees of the New Jersey shows.

"But wait there’s more … for those of you going to the East Rutherford shows — we will have a new special edition CD available ONLY on site starting at 12:30pm ET on Friday! This CD will have a never-before-heard ‘Midnights’ vault track called 'You’re Losing Me'!" said Swift in her tweet.

Tragedy strikes as dinghy overturns near Greek island of Mykonos leaving 3 dead, several missing

Three people have died and up to 12 others are missing after a dinghy carrying migrants overturned near the Greek resort island of Mykonos, officials said.

The incident in the Aegean Sea occurred early Friday. The search involving two rescue helicopter along with coast guard and private vessels was launched after two men, a Palestinian and a Syrian, swam to rocks near the shore and were spotted by authorities.

The bodies of two adult women and an adult man were recovered at sea several hours later.

GREECE PLEDGES MILITARY ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINE FOR 'AS LONG AS IT TAKES'

Coast Guard spokesman Nikos Kokkalas said moderate winds were prevailing in the search area, adding that the incident occurred at around 6 a.m. off the northeast shore of Mykonos.

The island is more than 95 miles from the closest point on the Turkish coast.

Smugglers based in Turkey have frequently chosen open sea routes in recent years to try to avoid the heavily patrolled waters of the eastern Aegean where several large Greek islands lie close to the Turkish coast.

Joran van der Sloot once claimed he shoved Natalee Holloway into a rock, cracking her skull, court docs allege

Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch national suspected in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway who will soon arrive in the U.S. to face charges that he extorted her mother, once claimed that he had shoved the Alabama teen to the ground so hard she that hit her head on a rock and died, according to court documents.

However, van der Sloot, who was convicted in 2010 of a woman's murder in Peru, has shifted his story about Holloway's case for years and is described by his own lawyer as "an ill person" with "psychological problems." He even told interviewers over the years that some of his past changing stories had been lies.

As part of the alleged $250,000 extortion plot, van der Sloot allegedly told a lawyer for Beth Holloway, Natalee's mother, that the 18-year-old's body was buried inside the foundation of a house in Aruba, the Caribbean nation where she vanished on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip.

"Van der Sloot went on to admit that he had been with Natalee on the night of May 29/30, 2005, and that he had thrown her to the ground after she had attempted to stop him from leaving her," page six of a federal affidavit alleges. "Van der Sloot claimed that when she fell down, she hit her head on a rock and died as a result of the impact."

NATALEE HOLLOWAY, SUSPECT JORAN VAN DER SLOOT: TIMELINE OF ALABAMA TEEN'S DEATH

Then, he allegedly enlisted his father's help to hide the body. However, he led the Holloways' lawyer to the location, and no body was found, according to federal prosecutors. Then, after the lawyer left Aruba, van der Sloot allegedly told him that he had lied about the location.

Paul van der Sloot, an Aruba judge and the suspect's father, died in 2010.

No one was ever prosecuted in connection with Holloway's disappearance, although van der Sloot and two of his friends, Satish and Deepak Kalpoe, were arrested and released due to lack of evidence more than once.

NATALEE HOLLOWAY SUSPECT JORAN VAN DER SLOOT GETTING DIVORCED AFTER PRISON DRUG SMUGGLING SCANDAL

He was indicted on charges of extortion and wire fraud in a federal court in Alabama in 2010 after allegedly trying to squeeze cash out of Holloway’s family in exchange for the location of her remains.

That same year, he killed Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old business student in Peru, after meeting her in her father's casino in Lima.

Van der Sloot is serving a decades-long prison sentence in the South American country but will be temporarily sent to the U.S. to stand trial on the extortion charges before returning to Peru to finish his sentence there.

If convicted in federal court in Alabama, he would be sent back to the U.S. in 2038 to serve up to 40 more years in an American prison. As part of the preparations for the temporary transfer, he was shipped from the mountaintop Challapalca prison Thursday to one in Lima, near the airport, from where the FBI is expected to escort him to the U.S.

Holloway, an 18-year-old from Mountain Brook, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, flew to Aruba with a large group of friends ahead of their high school graduation.

On May 30, 2005, some friends went out to a nightclub and met van der Sloot, who was also 18 at the time. He and Holloway were seen leaving the bar together. That was the last time she was seen.

In 2012, an Alabama judge declared her legally dead. Her remains have never been found.

She would be 36 years old today.

Through his Lima-based attorney, Maximo Altez, van der Sloot maintains his innocence.

Union backtracks, axes petition after professor threatens reporter with machete

The union that represents staff at the City University of New York distanced itself from former Hunter College Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art Shellyne Rodriguez after the embattled educator threatened a reporter with a machete.

A spokesperson for the union, PSC, told Fox News Digital Wednesday that it "does not condone violence" when asked to comment on the incident, but added that it also does not "comment on members’ ongoing disciplinary proceedings."

"The union has not released or endorsed any statement regarding any incidents involving Professor Shellyne Rodriguez," the spokesperson said.

The remarks stand in stark contrast to a petition that appeared on the union's website just days after Rodriguez became embroiled in controversy over a profanity-laced tirade against a group of students who had set up a pro-life display at Hunter College.

PROFESSOR HOLDS MACHETE TO REPORTER'S NECK AFTER DESTROYING STUDENT'S PRO-LIFE DISPLAY: REPORT

The petition encouraged readers to "stand with" Rodriguez against "right wing anti-abortion backlash."

The petition, which was posted on May 19, has since been taken down from the union's website. However, an archived version of the web page argued the professor was "facing retaliation from the administration" due to the incident earlier this month.

"A Hunter adjunct, Shellyne Rodriguez, who confronted an anti-abortion group on campus is facing retaliation from the administration, just the latest in a series of crackdowns on student and faculty activists, organizers, and dissidents," the webpage said. "Please read more and sign the letter to support Shellyne here."

The petition went live shortly after the professor's viral tirade against the pro-life students, which ended with her attempting to hurl literature items the group had on the table.

"This is bulls---, this is violent," Rodriguez told the students. "You're triggering my students."

As backlash against Rodriguez mounted, the petition called on reader to support the professor and called her actions "justified."

PROFESSOR HURLS STUDENTS' PRO-LIFE DISPLAY AFTER PROFANITY-LACED TIRADE: 'TRIGGERING MY STUDENTS'

"Hunter College adjunct educator Shellyne Rodriguez approached the display, constructively critiqued the group members, and eventually physically took down items from the table," read the petition, which was linked to on the PSC website. "Her actions to shut down the tabling were fully justified, and are part of a long and celebrated CUNY legacy of confronting groups such as military recruiters who disseminate misleading information."

Controversy surrounding that incident led New York Post reporter Reuven Fenton to knock on the professor's Bronx apartment door Tuesday to request an interview with Rodriguez, but he instead was threatened by the professor, who put a machete to his neck.

"Get the f--- away from my door, or I’m going to chop you up with this machete," Rodriguez shouted at the reporter.

The entire incident, which also saw Rodriguez chase the reporter outside and kick him in the shin, was captured on camera by a New York Post photographer who accompanied Fenton on the trip.

In response to that incident, the union told Fox News Digital that it "has a duty to ensure that every worker that we represent is afforded the full protections of their contractual due-process rights."

The statement comes after Hunter College, which had already opened an investigation into the professor's confrontation with the pro-life students, strongly condemned Rodriguez and relieved her of her duties at the school.

"Hunter College strongly condemns the unacceptable actions of Shellyne Rodriguez and has taken immediate action. Rodriguez has been relieved of her duties at Hunter College effective immediately and will not be returning to teach at the school," a spokesperson for the school told Fox News Digital.

The New York Police Department charged the professor with menacing and harassment Thursday.

Fox News and the New York Post share common ownership.

Cholera kills 17 in South Africa and 9 in neighboring Zimbabwe

At least 17 people have died in a cholera outbreak in the Hammanskraal township outside South Africa's capital, Pretoria, authorities said Wednesday.

The toll has risen from an initial 10 fatalities reported by local health authorities earlier this week.

Authorities said there were another 29 laboratory-confirmed cholera cases, while 67 people were admitted to a hospital and clinics for gastrointestinal infections.

Health authorities are yet to confirm the exact source of the cholera outbreak, but poor waste water management and local government instability in South Africa's capital city have been blamed for the situation. The City of Tshwane Municipality, which takes in Pretoria and surrounding areas, has had at least five different mayors since the ruling African National Congress party lost control in local government elections in 2016.

A water plant in Pretoria which is responsible for waste water management for large parts of Hammanskraal is in need of urgent upgrades estimated to cost about $130 million and hasn't been functioning properly for years, the city's mayor said.

CDC ISSUES ALERT ABOUT DRUG-RESISTANT STOMACH BUG'S SPREAD

"It has been out of capacity since about 2005," said Tshwane executive mayor Cilliers Brink, who was elected in March.

South Africa is the latest southern African nation to experience an outbreak of cholera following deaths in neighboring Zimbabwe and in Malawi this year. In February, the World Health Organization said cholera cases in Africa were rising exponentially amid a global surge. At least 12 African nations have reported cholera outbreaks this year.

Zimbabwean health authorities have confirmed nine recent deaths with another 28 suspected cholera deaths since February. The Ministry of Health said it had recorded 1,404 suspected cholera cases and 359 laboratory-confirmed cases.

Malawi reported earlier this year that more than 1,000 people had died in a widespread outbreak that started in March 2022. It is Malawi's worst cholera outbreak in 20 years, WHO said, with more than 36,000 cases.

Cholera is a water-borne disease caused by ingesting contaminated food or water. The infection is extremely virulent, although it can be easily treated once identified.

The NGO Gift of the Givers has distributed more than 3,200 sealed 5-litre water bottles to the Hammanskraal community's local Jubilee Hospital and surrounding clinics where patients are being treated.

In neighboring Zimbabwe, a country with a history of deadly cholera outbreaks, authorities say the capital, Harare, is turning into an epicenter of the current outbreak. Residents in some suburbs have gone for months without tap water, forcing them to dig shallow wells and boreholes that have been contaminated by raw sewage flowing from burst pipes.

The cholera cases in Africa have been attributed to local sanitation problems, but also climatic factors like cyclones and floods that hit parts of southern Africa recently as well as a global shortage in cholera vaccines.

Driver of U-Haul truck that crashed near White House appears in federal court, ordered to remain in custody

The 19-year-old man arrested after allegedly crashing a U-Haul truck into security barriers near the White House earlier this week has been ordered held in detention following a federal court appearance Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Sai Kandula has been charged with one count of depredation of government property and faces up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Prosecutors told the court Kandula is not a U.S. citizen but did not specify where he is from. The U.S. Park Police said Tuesday he is from Chesterfield, Missouri.

Kandula appeared Wednesday in an orange prison jumpsuit following the incident in Lafayette Square Monday night.

"Kandula drove onto the sidewalk, sending multiple pedestrians running from the scene," a Secret Service agent wrote in charging documents obtained earlier Wednesday by Fox News. "[A] U.S. Park Police officer observed the U-Haul strike the metal bollard barriers that prevent vehicles from entering Lafayette Square, north of the White House grounds. After striking the barriers, the U-Haul backed up in reverse, and lurched forward, again striking the metal barriers."

CHARGES FILED AGAINST DRIVER OF U-HAUL TRUCK THAT CRASHED NEAR WHITE HOUSE

There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel.

In the charging documents, the Secret Service agent wrote that the U.S. Park Police officer watched Kandula exit the U-Haul and remove "a red and white flag with a Nazi Swastika in the center from a black backpack he was carrying."

He then was ordered to the ground and taken into custody.

During an interview later with Secret Service agents, Kandula said he "flew into Washington, D.C., from St. Louis at approximately 8 p.m. that evening on a one-way ticket. Upon arriving at Dulles International Airport, he rented a U-Haul from a nearby location and drove directly to the White House," the document says.

The agent, citing that interview, wrote that "Kandula stated his goal was to ‘get to the White House, seize power and be put in charge of the nation.’ When agents asked how Kandula would seize power, he stated he would ‘Kill the President if that’s what I have to do and would hurt anyone that would stand in my way.’ Kandula made clear in the interview that by ‘the president’ he meant the President of the United States."

U-HAUL TRUCK CRASHES INTO BARRIERS NEAR WHITE HOUSE, SUSPECT IN CUSTODY, OFFICIALS SAY

The suspect, when asked "if he knew how dangerous his actions were, said he knew he would be arrested, but his ‘book’ would get to those who needed to see it," the agent also wrote.

"By ‘book’ Kandula said this referred to his ‘green book’ which is an outlet for his thoughts," the charging document added. "Kandula stated he eventually started writing his plans to enter the White House, and what he would accomplish if he was in charge."

When asked about the flag, Kandula allegedly said he bought it online and idolized Hitler and the Nazis’ "authoritarian nature," according to the documents.

The damage to the barriers is estimated to be more than $1,000. The USPP officer who responded also noticed the U-Haul "was smoking from the front hood and liquids were leaking from the vehicle’s undercarriage," it added.

"Kandula’s acts were calculated to influence or affect the conduct of government by intimidation or coercion, or to retaliate against government conduct," the agent concluded in the document.

A spokesman for the Rockwood School District in Missouri told Fox News Digital Tuesday a student by the name of Sai Varshith Kandula graduated from Marquette High School in Chesterfield last year.

Grieving mother demands 'secure' border, vows to be daughter's 'voice' after alleged MS-13 member murdered her

A mother whose 20-year-old daughter was murdered, allegedly by a suspected MS-13 gang member who had been released into the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor, gave an emotional plea to lawmakers on Tuesday to secure the southern border -- warning that the crisis "is a safety issue for everyone living in the United States."

"For me, this is not a political issue. This is a safety issue for everyone living in the United States," Tammy Nobles, whose daughter Kayla Hamilton was killed last year, told lawmakers on a Judiciary Committee immigration subcommittee. "This could have been anyone's daughter. Kayla wasn't doing anything wrong, and she didn't deserve to be murdered. I don't want any other parents to live the nightmare I am living."

"I am her voice now, and I am going to fight with everything I have to get her story told and bring awareness of the issue at the border," she said.

HOUSE JUDICIARY REPORT FAULTS BIDEN ADMIN FOR RELEASE OF ALLEGED MS-13 GANG MEMBER NOW CHARGED WITH MURDER

Hamilton, who was autistic, was raped and killed in her mobile home last year. Earlier this year, police arrested an El Salvadoran 17-year-old who authorities said is linked to the MS-13 street gang and who was released into the U.S. into the custody of his aunt after being encountered at the border.

An interim staff Judiciary committee report released Tuesday faulted the Biden administration for a failure to vet the suspect, calling it a "tragic example of the failure to enforce U.S. immigration law."

"Tragically, Secretary Mayorkas and his department missed key warning signs about the alien’s propensity for violence, which law enforcement officials investigating the murder later uncovered," the report says.

A DHS official told Fox News Digital that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reviews both biometric and biographic information for those encountered at the border against several federal agencies' databases.

"If we determine that the individuals pose a threat to national security or public safety, we deny admission, detain, remove, or turn them over to another agency for prosecution, as appropriate. We work closely with our interagency and international partners to detect and prevent people who pose national security or public safety risks from entering the United States," the official said.

At the hearing, Nobles paid tribute to her daughter.

HEARTBROKEN MOM OF 20-YEAR-OLD WHO WAS ALLEGEDLY KILLED BY MS-13 GANG MEMBER SENDS FIERY MESSAGE TO BIDEN

"She always kept her friends close and never forgot anyone. She was kind, caring, thoughtful and funny. She loved life and God. She showed the world that being yourself was okay, and you didn't have to follow everyone else," she said.

She described in harrowing terms the night that Kayla was killed, describing how he allegedly used an iPod charger to strangle her before sexually assaulting her. He allegedly robbed her of her phone and $6.

She then spoke about how the U.S. needs to secure its southern border.

"The United States government has to secure our border. We need to properly vet all border crossers. The government could have placed a phone call to authorities in El Salvador and found out that he was a gang member. But they didn't," she said

"If we had stricter border policies, my daughter would still be nothing will bring my daughter back, nor the pain, nor fix. I'm not having her here and I want to prevent this from happening to someone else's child. This is about protecting everyone here in the United States."

The testimony came during the third in a series of hearings held by Republicans on the committee on "Biden’s Border Crisis." Republicans have blamed the policies of the administration for the ongoing crisis at the border -- including a greater use of "catch-and-release" and reduced interior enforcement

Democrats and the administration have accused Republicans of failing to provide additional resources to secure ports of entry, and of refusing to work with Democrats on a "comprehensive" immigration reform bill to fix what they say is a "broken" immigration system.

Colts owner Jim Irsay amends all-time great list after backlash over Peyton Manning snub

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay may have upset some of his fanbase when he excluded Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning from his all-time greatest NFL player list over the weekend.

But after some thought and backlash, the longtime owner made a readjustment.

Over the weekend, Irsay tweeted a list of his "Top 5 Greatest NFL Players of All Time." He listed Jim Brown, a nine-time Pro Bowl running back and five-time NFL rushing leader, as his number one followed by seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and two-time Super Bowl champ and Denver Broncos legend John Elway.

COLTS OWNER JIM IRSAY SEEMINGLY SNUBS HALL OF FAME QUARTERBACK WITH NFL ALL-TIME GREAT LIST

He listed Hall of Fame defensive ends Deacon Jones and Reggie White as No. 4 and No. 5, but made no mention of Manning who spent the majority of his career in Indianapolis.

The tweet stirred the Colts fan base and late Monday night, Irsay tweeted out an amendment to his list.

Brown, Jones, and White remained in their place but Irsay put Brady and Manning "neck-and-neck" and No. 2.

Irsay followed up his correction with another explanation on Tuesday, saying that "when it comes to changing a franchise," Manning is a clear no. 1.

Irsay initially defended placing Elway over Manning, a five-time league MVP, two-time Super Bowl champ, and 14-time Pro Bowl selection, but time and pressure may have changed his mind.

Pakistan's Imran Khan presses legal battle in Islamabad court

Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday pressed his legal battle before a court in the capital, Islamabad, which granted him protection from arrest until early next month in several cases including terrorism charges for inciting violence.

The development comes as authorities have been cracking down on the supporters of Khan, now Pakistan's top opposition leader. Thousands staged violent protests and attacked public property and military installations following Khan's arrest earlier this month.

The violence subsided only days later, after Khan was released on the orders of the country's Supreme Court. Ten people were killed in clashes with the police.

Khan, who was ousted in a no-confidence vote in Parliament in April last year, has campaigned against the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, claiming his ouster was illegal and demanding early elections.

But Khan claims he was ousted under a U.S. plot, a charge that Washington and Sharif’s government deny. Since his exit, he has stepped up his campaign to oust Sharif’s government through "pressure from the people."

PAKISTAN'S FORMER PRIME MINISTER IMRAN KHAN SAYS POLICE ARE SURROUNDING HIS HOME

Since then, the 70-year-old former cricket star turned Islamist politician has become embroiled in more than 100 legal cases against him. He faces charges of graft purportedly committed while he was in office and has been charged with terrorism in eight cases over the violent protests by his supporters and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf opposition party.

After the Islamabad court on Tuesday granted Khan protection from arrest on terrorism charges until June 8, he and his wife travelled to the nearby city of Rawalpindi, where Khan appeared before the National Accountability Bureau to answer questions in a separate graft case.

After a four-hour questioning, the couple returned home to Lahore. No details were immediately available about Khan's appearance before the agency.

The couple is accused of accepting the gift of property to build a private university in exchange for providing benefits to a real estate tycoon. Khan denies the charge, saying he and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were not involved in any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, in a blow to Khan, a close associate who served as a rights minister in his 2018-2022 government, announced on Tuesday that she was leaving the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and politics altogether.

Shireen Mazari has been a vocal critic of Pakistan’s military and Sharif's government. She was arrested last Thursday on charges of inciting people to violence, then released on Monday, only to be rearrested again later in the evening. She was freed again sometime later and spoke at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

"I have decided to leave active politics and I will not be a part of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) or any political party from today," Mazari said, adding that she was quitting for health reasons. She did not elaborate.

Mazari, who also denounced the recent violence by Khan's supporters, is among several leaders from Khan’s party who have quit him because of the deadly protests.

Also on Tuesday, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, another key leader in Khan's party, said at a news conference in Islamabad he is quitting the party over Khan's "politics of confrontation with the state and the military."

In Pakistan, the military has ruled for half of its 75-year history.

Malaysian authorities raid Swatch stores, seize Pride Collection watches, according to the Swiss watchmaker

Swiss watchmaker Swatch said Tuesday that Malaysian authorities raided its stores and confiscated 164 watches from its Pride Collection.

It said Ministry of Home Affairs officials raided its outlets in various malls across Malaysia on May 13 and 14 and seized the watches because they "bore LGBT connotations."

The watches come in a choice of six colors, matching those on the gay pride flag, and have two rainbow loops on their straps.

TARGET HOLDS 'EMERGENCY' MEETING OVER LGBTQ MERCHANDISE IN SOME STORES TO AVOID ‘BUD LIGHT SITUATION’

"We strongly contest that our collection of watches using rainbow colors and having a message of peace and love could be harmful for whomever," Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek Jr. said in a statement.

"On the contrary, Swatch always promotes a positive message of joy in life. This is nothing political. We wonder how the Regulatory and Enforcement Division of the Home Ministry will confiscate the many beautiful natural rainbows that are showing up a thousand times a year in the sky of Malaysia," he said.

Predominantly Muslim Malaysia criminalizes same-sex relationships, with punishments ranging from caning under Islamic laws to 20 years in prison for sodomy under colonial-era civil laws. The opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party recently criticized a scheduled concert in November by British band Coldplay because of its support of the LGBT movement.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution told the AP that he is waiting for a full report on the matter before issuing a statement.

Swatch said it has resumed selling the Pride Collection watches and that its legal department is looking into the seizure.

Gay rights group Jejaka slammed the confiscation of the watches, saying it showed "a deeply unsettling level of intolerance."

"It is more than a matter of colorful watches. It’s about respect for diversity, freedom of expression, and, most importantly, love," it said in a statement. It urged the government to promote a culture of acceptance and understanding rather than repression and discrimination.
