Elderly Arizona man dies after numerous bee stings cardiac arrest at home

An 83-year-old Arizona man has died after authorities say bees swarmed and stung him at his home, authorities said.

First responders received a medical call on Wednesday in Peoria and found the man in full cardiac arrest after suffering numerous bee stings, FOX10 Phoenix reported, citing police.

"Family members and Peoria Fire Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful as an 83-year-old male passed away from this tragic bee attack," a Peoria police statement read, in part.

No information about the man’s identity or what type of bees attacked him was immediately released.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Aaron Lorti, the owner of AZ Bee Kings, told FOX10 Phoenix in May that bees around the Phoenix area are known as "killer bees."

"What that means is they are very, very aggressive, very territorial, and if you mess with them, they will try to kill you," Lorti said at the time.

That same month, a mother was stung more than 75 times while protecting her two children when bees swarmed them during a family photo shoot in Arizona’s Buckeye Valley.

Experts say that in the event of a bee attack, getting inside to a safe place is key.

Officials advise running in a straight line, covering your face and getting to shelter. They say never get into water and do not fight the bees.

Four-time gold medalist Simone Biles will return to competition for first time since Tokyo Olympics

Simone Biles is one of the biggest stars in gymnastics, and she will return to the competitive stage in August after a nearly two-year absence, officials announced Wednesday.

Organizers of the U.S. Classic revealed Biles, a four-time gold medal winner, will compete in the upcoming event. The U.S. Classic is scheduled to begin Aug. 5 in suburban Chicago.

Biles has been away from sanctioned events since the COVID-delayed Tokyo Olympics. During those Olympics, which took place in 2021, Biles brought awareness to the mental health battles some athletes face.

Biles rose to prominence after her dazzling performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics, bringing home gold medals in the team all-around, individual all-around, vault and floor exercise. She also won a bronze medal on the balance beams.

She was one of Team USA's brightest stars heading into the Tokyo Games but stunned the sports world when she announced her withdrawal from the team finals due to the emotional toll the Games had taken on her.

Her decision shifted the focus from the Games to the wellness of the athletes.

She served as a cheerleader as her American teammates won the team silver then sat out the all-around, vault and floor exercise finals she had qualified for while dealing with what is known as "the twisties," a gymnastics term for when an athlete loses spatial awareness when airborne.

Biles did return for the balance beam final, where she won a bronze medal that tied Shannon Miller’s record for most Olympic medals by an American female gymnast.

Biles has mostly kept her social media channels gymnastics-free over the past two months. She has instead used the platforms to highlight snippets of her personal life.

She headlined a post-Olympic tour in the fall of 2021 and married NFL player Jonathan Owens, now a defensive back for the Green Bay Packers, in the spring.

While it remains unclear if Biles will seek to make a third Olympic team, her return to the sport she dominated for nearly a decade suggests she is taking a step in that direction. 

Making three Olympic teams as a female American gymnast is no small feat. Dominique Dawes (1992, 1996 and 2000) is the only U.S. woman in the last 50 years to be selected for three Olympic teams.

Montana congressman calls for more transparency over balloon flights

A Montana congressman on Monday called for more transparency from the federal government after acknowledging that people were tracking a balloon flying over his state at 57,000 feet – a balloon that was registered with the Federal Aviation Administration and following regulations, according to the FAA.

Rep. Matt Rosendale, a Republican representing the area where the balloon was spotted, said several people in Dawson County were tracking the balloon flying across eastern Montana on Sunday night. 

He said he immediately contacted the Department of Defense and was told the agency was aware of the incident and choose not to investigate because of the size of the balloon and the "low probability" that it was conducting any surveillance, he said. "The object is a privately-owned civilian balloon registered with the #FAA and operating within FAA regulations and requirements," the agency tweeted. "Be assured, when an object is suspicious or unknown, NORAD responds."

Still, Rosendale said in a statement, "If the spy balloon in February taught us anything, it’s that Montanans are vigilant and want to know what is flying over our state and will expose the Biden administration for not protecting us."

Republicans criticized the Biden administration for failing to act much earlier. China claimed the balloon was actually a civilian weather research craft that was blown far off course by winds.

"The airship is from China. It is a civilian airship used for research, mainly meteorological, purposes," a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said at the time. "Affected by the Westerlies and with limited self-steering capability, the airship deviated far from its planned course."

Duchess Sarah Ferguson almost skipped doctor visit that led to cancer diagnosis: 'Go get screened'

Sarah Ferguson almost skipped the appointment that revealed she had breast cancer.

Ferguson opened up about her recent breast cancer diagnosis in a pre-recorded episode of her podcast "Tea Talks with the Duchess & Sarah."

"It was after bank holiday, and I live in this area — in the Windsor area — and it was a hot day, and I didn't feel like going to London. It’s easy to put it off — 'I'll do it next week,'" Ferguson said. "My sister, who's wonderful from Australia, I always normally do what she says because she gets so cranky. She said, 'No — go. I need you to go. I need you to go."

The Duchess' sister, Jane, was actually "ringing [her] up about something else."

Ferguson also referenced her father, who died of prostate cancer, and urged everyone to go get screened.

"I don't mind if no one wants to hear from me," she said. "Because I'm telling you that I am doing this. I am telling people out there because I want every single person that is listening to this podcast to go get checked, go get screened and go do it."

Ferguson is now recovering after undergoing surgery.

"Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening," Ferguson's representatives confirmed with Fox News Digital on Sunday. "She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully."

Her rep added, "The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family."

The Duchess of York was "symptom free" when she arrived for the routine mammogram.

Ferguson, who is famously known as "Fergie," has two daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice with her ex-husband Prince Andrew. The Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson married in 1986 and divorced in 1996, months before now-King Charles would divorce Princess Diana.

Victor Wembanyama to skip playing for France in FIBA World Cup

Victor Wembanyama has some bad news for France.

The No. 1 draft pick told L’Equipe newspaper he won't play with his national basketball team at this year's World Cup in order to protect his still developing body, and will instead take that time to continue preparing for his rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs.

Wembanyama said it was a difficult decision to make, adding that it is irrevocable.

"I’ve decided to dedicate this summer to preparing my body for the many events awaiting it in the coming years," he said. "This meant skipping the World Cup. It was a difficult decision, and one that required the advice of many people. But I sincerely believe it’s the best one for the French team and myself."

The top pick in this year’s NBA draft had previously said he wanted to play in the tournament, which runs from Aug. 25 through Sept. 10 and will have France among the medal favorites. But both he and the Spurs suggested in recent days that his participation was no longer certain.

Wembanyama said he consulted with close friends and his medical team. He told the France coach and other players from the team about his decision over the weekend, L'Equipe reported on Monday.

Wembanyama said he was not pressured by the Spurs in any way.

"They know what’s at stake," he said. "But they would have supported me whatever my choice. In the past, as soon as I could go to international competitions, I did. I’ve never been able to enjoy a summer with several months of development for my body. For this new phase of my life, it’s essential. The Spurs staff are ready to make this summer profitable. We can’t afford for it to be wasted time."

If Wembanyama sticks with his decision, it will mean that he won't be playing with France at a major tournament until next year's Paris Olympics.

The Spurs chose the 19-year-old prodigy, who arrives with enormous expectations to become basketball’s newest sensation.

Wembanyama comes with far more height and hype than most No. 1 picks. Listed at 7-foot-4, he dominated the French league in his final season, leading all players in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

Wembanyama said he hesitated a lot and pointed to the need to preserve his body, which he already put to the test during a long season with his Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 club, which reached the finals in the French league.

He said after that stretch, taking part in the World Cup and then playing with the Spurs and following up the NBA season with the Olympics would have been too much to take.

"My body is like a prototype," he said. "I can’t base myself on people who look like me. So you need specific preparation, personalized anticipation. You can’t leave anything to chance. There’s a real risk of overload, and therefore of injury, which could have an impact on what happens next."

Wembanyama played in 48 games, including the playoffs and two exhibitions near Las Vegas last fall, in his recently completed season for Boulogne-Levallois — a team coached by Vincent Collet, who also coaches the French national team. The French season for Wembanyama stretched from September through a league finals appearance earlier this month.

The NBA season is 82 games, not including preseason and possibly postseason contests. If he played at the World Cup, Wembanyama wouldn’t have given his body much of a break to rest and prepare for the far more demanding rigors of an NBA schedule.

"It would be unrealistic in terms of development and unwise in terms of health," Wembanyama said.

And it’s clear that, at least for this summer, he’s decided that his focus will fully be on the Spurs.

"I’m trying to learn and be as objective as I can to become the best," Wembanyama said over the weekend, when he visited his new home arena for the first time. "But I’m also trying to be myself and not let anyone change the way I want to be, change the way I want to play. And I think this is really the way to become the best version of myself I can be as a player."

Wembanyama is expected to play in Summer League with the Spurs in the coming weeks; it remains unclear if he’ll participate in the California Classic that Sacramento will play host to starting July 3, the bigger NBA Summer League in Las Vegas that starts July 7, or both. World Cup practices with the French team would have started not long after Summer League, and the FIBA tournament will end about three weeks before NBA training camps open.

The French federation is expected to release its preliminary roster for the World Cup later this week. France lost the gold medal game at the most recent major international tournament — the Tokyo Olympics — to the United States in 2021, and won the bronze medal at the last World Cup at China in 2019.

"The French team is as central to my career as ever. I want to win every title I can with them. But to achieve that, this summer is a necessary sacrifice," Wembanyama said.

Iraqi residents turn to natural remedies as health care becomes unaffordable

When a pharmacist in Iraq told Umm Mohammed her prescription for a skin ailment would cost about $611, she turned to cheaper natural remedies as some of her relatives had done.

In a herbal remedy shop, the 34-year-old mother-of-two found a treatment eight times cheaper. "Pharmacies are a disaster at the moment, poor people turn to medicinal herbs because of the prices," she said. "Who can afford this? Should one die? So you turn to medicinal herbs."

Ibrahim al-Jabouri, the shop's owner and a professor of pharmacology, told Reuters that he is receiving customers suffering from various health issues, such as skin diseases, bowel troubles, colon infections or hair loss.

While some Iraqis choose alternative treatments out of conviction, others have no other choice as they can't afford the cost of conventional medicines.

"The economic situation the country is passing through means that the cost of medicine is hard to bear especially for those with a limited income," said Dr. Haider Sabah, who heads Iraq's national centre for herbal medicine, a regulatory state body affiliated to the Ministry of Health.

Iraq's healthcare system, once one of the best in the Middle East, has been wrecked by conflict, international sanctions, the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and rampant corruption.

Although public medical services are free of charge, a lack of medicines, equipment and adequate services mean citizens often need to turn to the more expensive private sector.

In recent years, Sabah has seen more herbal centres open in the capital, Baghdad. There are now 460 establishments with a permit to sell herbal medicines, up from 350 in 2020, according to his database.

Standards vary greatly, from shops selling neatly packaged and licensed products in Baghdad's better-off neighbourhoods to more traditional herbologists mixing plants scooped out of jars in front of customers.

But replacing medical prescriptions with herbal products can be dangerous and result in harm for patients if not administered properly, said physician Ali Naser.

He recalled the case of a patient who had replaced his prescription with a herbal treatment and "reached the point of what we doctors refer to as diabetic ketoacidosis and the patient had to be admitted to the ICU," Naser said.

At the heart of the problem is Iraq's failure to establish an adequate medical system or regulatory framework for the country's multitude of health service providers, he added.

According to Sabah, inspection teams monitoring establishments selling herbal medicines have closed down 10 for serious violations since 2019. "Most of the violations detected by the inspection teams are corrected," he said.

Supreme Court dismisses appeal from charter school over student uniform policy

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a case challenging a North Carolina charter school's requirement that girls exclusively skirts as part of their uniform on Monday.

The court dismissed the appeal without explanation, leaving in place a lower court's ruling that held that the uniform requirement violated federal law. Charter schools are publicly funded programs and therefore subject to Title IX and other Constitutional protections, the lower court found.

The American Civil Liberties Union first brought the case against Charter Day School, representing three students and their parents who argued that the requirement to wear skirts violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution's 14th Amendment.

In its defense, the school said it sought to "emphasize traditional values," with its founder arguing that skirts play a major role in reinforcing the idea that women are a "fragile vessel that men are supposed to take care of and honor."

While the ruling pertains to charter schools and other publicly-funded education systems, it does not have any bearing on private schools, though a number of religious and educational groups have filed amicus briefs, worried about the effect the case would have on their ability to conduct their own affairs and operations.

The Supreme Court is expected to hand down rulings in several major cases later this week, including two potential landmark cases relating to affirmative action.

FIRST ON FOX — Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were "asleep at the switch" following the aborted attempted coup in Russia.

"This weekend’s events show that the Russian leadership is in a weaker position than the Ukrainian leadership," Haley said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. "The United States and our allies should use this moment to send Ukraine the vital supplies and equipment it needs to reclaim its land and end the war.

She called for "swift action" amid the uncertainty after a standoff between the Kremlin and an armed mercenary group.

"If co-Presidents Biden and Harris weren’t asleep at the switch, we could be sending a real message not just to Russia, but to the dictators in China and Iran as well," Haley said.

Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin shocked the world this weekend when he and his private military group took control of Russian military bases and began a supposed march toward Moscow. The warlord relented on Saturday after Belarus held negotiations between the two sides.

Good Samaritan jumps into action to protect elderly neighbors from violent intruder

A Houston, Texas pastor who helped thwart a man allegedly attacking an elderly couple in their home credited his faith for jumping into action to protect his neighbors.

"If it wasn't for him, we'd probably be dead," Sharon Koehn told KTRK of local pastor Heath Haynes.

Haynes told Fox News Digital he was sitting with his wife in their home on June 15 when they heard Sharon yelling for help outside.

"I started running over [to the neighbor’s home], thinking I'm responding to the medical emergency," Haynes recounted. "And then she starts yelling as she's coming down the sidewalk that [a suspect] is attacking her husband. So kind of switched gears, to ‘OK, this is not medical emergency. This is an attack.’"

Haynes said the front door to the neighbors' home slammed shut on his way over, but he was able to peek in the window. He saw his 85-year-old neighbor Earl Koehn, who has dementia, on the floor with a coat rack over his chest and a man rifling through his pockets, he said.

"I’m banging on the door yelling at [the suspect], and he’s acting like he lives there, saying ‘I’ll be right there,’" Haynes said. "I'm yelling ‘I can see you.’ And at that point, he stops and goes to the back of the house."

That’s when Haynes took out his phone and began recording the scene, explaining he thought the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Shane Jennings, may have a weapon and the camera could deter him from becoming more violent.

"Hey, what do you think you’re doing, man?" Haynes is heard asking Jennings in the video. "You’re beating that man up."

Haynes told Jennings to put down a set of car keys he had to the Koehn’s pickup truck, as well as other items in his hand, the video shows. The suspect is seen attempting to open the truck door before running from Haynes.

The pastor managed to subdue Jennings for a few moments, as the suspect claimed he did not attack the couple and that he "can’t breathe" as Haynes held him by the collar of his T-shirt.

"At this point… I know my wife called the police," Haynes said. "I'm just trying to contain without escalating it any further and I'm just kind of keeping him in the back area. We’re just kinda cat and mousing around the truck."

Meanwhile, Haynes’ wife Amber had kicked off her flip-flops and was standing at the ready to help subdue Jennings if he tried to make a run for it, Haynes recounted. 

The Houston pastor said he did not realize that Jennings still had a pair of keys in his hands, and it didn’t occur to him that the suspect would try to jump into the vehicle as they were in an enclosed area.

Jennings did make a move for the car. Haynes recorded the suspect drive the truck through a fence, sideswipe the house, repeatedly hit another parked vehicle in the driveway, run over some trash cans, and take off down the road. 

Police were able to capture Jennings later that day following a short police chase, where Jennings also reportedly hit a police vehicle. He was hit with six felony charges, including aggravated assault of an elderly person and assault of a peace officer, KTRK reported.

The Koehns did not suffer serious injuries during the attack and are processing the incident, according to Haynes.

Haynes added that the Koehns were likely targeted by Jennings, citing how Earl came home a few weeks prior and said he had been mugged, but his family was unsure if it really happened due to his dementia. Haynes said when Jennings first appeared on the Koehns' doorstep he asked for a glass water, then said he needed to use the bathroom, then again allegedly changed his story and said he owed Earl money, according to Haynes.

"So he knew Earl's name, and then barged his way in, and then flipped the script and said ‘Earl owes me money,'" Haynes said.

As for the pastor, he’s crediting God and his faith for how stepping in to help protect the Koehns.

"As a Christ follower, or someone who's experienced the redeeming love of Jesus, is that He showed me what love looks like," Haynes said. "It says: ‘There is no greater love than this – than the one who lays down their life for his friend.’

"Jesus did that for me," he added. "He gave His life for me. And so I've been shown that kind of selfless, sacrificial love."

He noted he has a "self-preservation instinct just like everyone else," but in that moment, he was "acting on something that's deeper inside."

Haynes also said divine intervention led him to be there at the right moment, explaining he and his wife never sit in the room where they were able to hear Sharon calling for help, or how he was able to keep Jennings from flying off the handle and causing more harm to the Koehns or other people during their confrontation in the backyard. 

"I hope he finds forgiveness and grace and Jesus in prison, but he's not going to get there without facing some bottom," he said. "He's going to have to hit the bottom. I hope somehow this system helps him get there. He needs to face some consequences."

House Democrats refuse to say whether they believe abortion should be permitted up until birth

A handful of House Democrats refused to say this week whether they believe women should be allowed to have an abortion up until the moment of birth.

Asked by Fox News Digital whether they would support any limitation on abortion, four Democrats – Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Adam Schiff of California, Juan Vargas of California and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia – would not answer the question.

With the exception of Vargas, the Democrats largely ignored the abortion questions altogether, just ahead of the first anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Vargas, although he did not answer the question directly, told Fox News that he believes "women should be able to chose their own healthcare" and that he "shouldn't decide for them."

House Republicans were also asked the same question, with Reps. Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Nick Langworthy of New York weighing in on the subject.

"I don't believe in abortion at all," Burchett said outside the Capitol. "I think it's murder. You got a little baby . . . and there's no excuse."

Referencing his Democratic colleagues, Burchett said, "This bunch here has pushed it til after birth, and we tried to defeat the bill, but Democrats were in control."

Asked the same question, whether he believes abortion should be permitted up until the moment of birth, Langworthy told Fox, "Absolutely not."

"I come from the state of New York, we have abortion on demand, and I think it's one of the great treacheries of our time that we have abortion that has been legalized right up until the ninth month, right up to the moment of birth. And there's no way to slice it . . . that is murder."

The questioning to lawmakers from both sides of the aisle comes as pro-life organizations and causes rally in the nation's capital to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Thousands of pro-life activists are expected to join the "National Celebrate Life Day" rally in D.C. over the weekend.

One year ago Saturday, the Supreme Court effectively ended recognition of a constitutional right to abortion and gave individual states the power to allow, limit or ban the practice altogether.

The ruling came in the court's opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which involved a Mississippi law that banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Republican-led state of Mississippi asked the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down a lower court's ruling that stopped the 15-week abortion ban from taking effect.

"We end this opinion where we began. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives," Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the court's opinion.

Earlier this year, 210 Democrats voted against legislation that would require immediate medical attention for babies who are born alive after an attempt was made to abort them.

Dem lawmaker claims mercenary rebellion could represent 'unraveling' of Putin regime: 'Existential threat'

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., proclaimed that the rebellion orchestrated against the Russian military by mercenary troops formally under President Vladimir Putin’s control could be the "unraveling of the Putin regime."

During a recent MSNBC interview, Connolly, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and president emeritus of the NATO parliamentary assembly, weighed in on what the Russian regime has deemed a rebellion led by Wagner Group Chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

He claimed that it may be the "biggest existential threat" Putin has "faced in his 23 years in rule."

WAGNER GROUP: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT RUSSIAN MERCENARY GROUP IN UKRAINE

Recent reports have claimed that the Wagner Group, a force of mercenaries that have been under control of the Russian military during its invasion of Ukraine, has allegedly turned against Russian military leaders and seized Russian military facilities in Rostov-on-Don, a city near the Ukrainian border.

Prigozhin, a long time Putin ally, claimed his paramilitary group was marching against the Russian military to fight "corruption, deceit and bureaucracy" therein. The mercenary leader accused Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of ordering a rocket strike on the private military contractor's field camps where the group is fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine.

The defense ministry has denied the claim, while President Putin has condemned Wagner Group’s actions, vowing to end what he deemed "a deadly threat to our statehood" in a recent televised address. 

This afternoon, Prigozhin ordered his troops to turn around in a stunning update to an unpredictable day. 

Intel from the U.K. Ministry of Defense alleged that Prigozhin’s force is "almost certainly aiming to get to Moscow," though it added that so far there is "very limited evidence of fighting between Wagner and Russian security forces."

Connolly told MSNBC weekend host Jonathan Capehart about the threat Prigozhin’s march is to Putin and his war efforts in Ukraine. Not mincing words, the lawmaker claimed, "This could very well be the unraveling of the Putin regime. This is certainly the biggest existential threat he's faced in his 23 years in rule."

Connolly then suggested Putin’s current predicament is his own fault, saying, "The Wagner Group was his own creation. He allowed it enormous latitude all over the world, allowed it to criticize the Russian military and to engage in independent activities, and was the only really successful part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine."

After mentioning the rebellion’s actions in taking Rostov-on-Don and appearing to begin the march to Moscow, Connolly discussed how such a rebellion is a threat to global stability as well, even if it means a blow to Putin’s regime.

"We have to remember, there are no good guys in this battle. Prigozhin is a thug. He's a murderous thug. When people desert the Wagner group, when he captures them, he kills them with a sledgehammer to make an example out of them. He is a brutal, murderous thug."

He added, "But he's of course, taking on now an equally brutish, murderous, sociopathic thug in the form of Vladimir Putin. So there’s no good guy in this struggle and therefore, there's unlikely to be any kind of outcome that the West is going to find favorable, or as that is likely to put Russia back on a more democratic course."

The lawmaker claimed this incident could be profitable for Ukraine’s military effort in its war with Russia. He stated, "What it could do, however, is really unravel the stability of Russian military alignments over a 900-kilometer border with Ukraine. Maine Legislature clears 12-week paid medical leave proposal

The Maine House voted Thursday to give workers up to 12 weeks of paid leave to deal with illness, care for a relative or birth of a child by joining other New England states in creating a paid family medical leave program.

The 79-65 vote followed a party-line vote the day before in the Senate, putting the bill on track for approval in the Democratic-controlled Legislature. Democratic Gov. Janet Mills is reviewing recent changes to the bill.

The proposal, to be funded through a payroll tax split between workers and employers and capped at 1% of wages, would allow up to 12 weeks a year of paid leave for qualifying conditions, such as the birth or adoption of a child, a worker’s serious illness, care for a sick relative, or transition from military deployment.

The original cost of implementing the bill was estimated to be $71 million, according to legislative documents, but the figure for the amended bill is $12 million for startup and $14 million for the first year.

Companies with fewer than 15 employees would be exempt, and workers would have to be employed for 120 days to qualify. The exact contribution rate has yet to be set; lost wages would be replaced at a tiered rate.

Parents 'baffled' after school asks students to choose from dozens of pronouns: 'Very confused and upset'

Parents looking to apply for their children to attend a school in England must fill out an admission form that includes 42 different gender pronouns, according to a report. 

"When you see something like this, it just makes you not want to take them seriously as an education establishment," one parent told The Sun, adding that "children don’t just need this kind of thing." 

"I spoke to other parents whose children are supposed to be starting at New Mills later this year, and they were equally as baffled by it," the parent said. "It left my son very confused and upset."

Leadership at the New Mills School, in Derbyshire, said the form was standard and in use by "thousands of schools." The form includes the terms zie, zim, zir, zis and zieself, as well as ve, ver, vis, vers and verself, among others.

The Scottish government in August 2021 released a guidance outline for supporting transgender pupils in schools, arguing that it ensures "every child and young person is happy, safe, respected and included in their learning environment."

Kamala Harris claims her goddaughters friends' are basing college choices on state abortion laws

During a Tuesday interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, Vice President Kamala Harris outlined the plight of women needing abortions one year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, mentioning that young women are choosing college based on where they can still get an abortion.

Harris mentioned her own goddaughter telling her that her friends are researching which states have strict abortion bans and those that don’t in order to make a decision on which college to attend.

The vice president offered the anecdote as she criticized states restricting the procedure.

Harris made the claims during a special Roe v. Wade retrospective on MSNBC's "The ReidOut." The segment, titled, "One Year Post-Roe: A Special with Vice President Harris," captured the pro-choice lawmaker’s perspective on the issue just days ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision to overturn the 1973 abortion ruling.

Harris began by remarking on the year-old ruling, framing it as the Supreme Court removing rights from women. She said, "And the idea that the highest court in our land just did that and rolled back rights that had been recognized was incredibly shocking."

She added that upon hearing the news last June, she called her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, so she could vent to him with "words not meant for television at this moment."

Later in the interview, Harris mentioned some of the young women whose lives are being affected by the ruling, namely recent high school graduates who now allegedly have more limited options when picking colleges. 

She mentioned her goddaughter calling her when Roe v. Wade was overturned and telling her, "Do you know what’s happening? My friends – whatever gender – are starting decision about where they will go to college depending on what’s happening in that state."

Harris added her own perspective, saying, "Because of course, if you look at it, I think the number is something like 23 million women of reproductive age live in states that have banned abortion, and what that is gonna mean for those 23 million for the myriad of health care issues that are at stake as we have just been discussing."

She added, "It’s having a real impact on all types of decisions that people are able to make."

How to know if your sunscreen is expired

While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has regulations that require commercial sunscreens to have stable formulations that last for at least three years, it can be tricky to know whether your SPF has reached its end.

Consumers who have purchased FDA-approved sunscreens can expect to find expiration date labels printed right on the product’s packaging.

For lotion tubes and bottles, the manufacturer’s production year and day are typically written in an alphanumeric code that can appear at the top or bottom of the container. The first two numbers represent the year the sunscreen was made while the next three numbers represent the calendar day. 

HOW TO WEAR SUNSCREEN THE RIGHT WAY: YOUR GUIDE TO SPF

Expiration dates, on the other hand, are usually a bit clearer with an "EXP" marker followed by the month and year a sunscreen should go bad.

Production date codes and expiration dates are also printed onto spray-on sunscreens and can usually be found at the base of the bottle.

Sunscreens from other countries, which have become trendier in recent years due to e-commerce, are usually regulated by agencies from their place of origin and will need to be reached by the consumers.

For example, the European Commission that represents the EU has its own list of testing, efficacy and labeling standards while individual countries throughout Asia, Africa, Australia and North and South America have regulations that may classify sunscreens as either a cosmetic or over-the-counter drug. 

Aside from keeping an eye out for expiration labels, consumers should take note of how they’re storing their sunscreen and the product’s consistency, according to the FDA.

"To keep your sunscreen in good condition, the FDA recommends that sunscreen containers should not be exposed to direct sun," an FDA spokesperson told Fox News Digital via email. 

"Protect the sunscreen by wrapping the containers in towels or keeping them in the shade," the spokesperson added. "Sunscreen containers can also be kept in coolers while outside in the heat for long periods of time."

Dr. Anna Guanche, founder and director of Bella Skin Institute in Calabasas, California, warns that hot indoor settings can impact a sunscreen’s effectiveness.

"Sunscreen most certainly does expire and when it does, it loses its strength and is less effective at blocking UV rays," Guanche wrote to Fox News Digital. 

"If the sunscreen has been left in a hot car for a long period of time, for example, or separated it is best to invest in a new bottle of sunscreen just in case," she added.

Consumers should be able to find proper storage and use instructions listed on sunscreen labels, according to the FDA.

"There is no expiration difference between the face or body sunscreen. Expired is expired. Although expiration dates are guidelines, it is best not to take a chance of having ineffective sun protection," Guanche advised. 

"Lotions versus spray is the same," she added. "You want to check the expiration date on the bottle because if it’s expired, it loses its effectiveness of protecting your skin."

In addition to being mindful of expiration dates, you may want to look into whether a recall has been issued for sunscreen products that were purchased last summer or before.

In 2022, Banana Boat voluntarily recalled four batches of the Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30, FOX Business reported at the time. The recall had been issued after the company discovered some samples of the product contained trace levels of benzene – an organic chemical compound that can cause cancer with high exposure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In July 2021, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. issued a voluntary recall affecting a handful of the sunscreen products in its aerosol product line.

The company had recalled select sunscreens from Neutrogena and Aveeno for potential benzene contamination.

Benzene was reportedly not an ingredient lists in Johnson & Johnson sunscreen products, FOX Business and Reuters reported at the time.

Benzene was found in four Neutrogena products: Beach Defense, Cool Dry Sport, Invisible Daily Defense and Ultra Sheer products. It was also found in one Aveeno product: Aveeno Protect + Refresh sunscreen. 

Johnson & Johnson and Costco Wholesale Corp. had reached a tentative agreement over lawsuits in connection with the recalled sunscreens after benzene was detected in the products.

GOP rips Hunter's 'sweetheart' plea deal on tax and gun crimes zero in on Joe Biden

Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two tax violations and one gun felony in what Republicans are blasting as a "sweetheart" plea deal following a five-year investigation.

Fox News has confirmed that the president's son will plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

"It’s no coincidence that less than a week after President Trump is arraigned by the DOJ, Hunter Biden is pleading guilty to a sweetheart deal with no jail time," Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Fox News Digital in a statement. "The DOJ is going for the low-hanging fruit by charging Hunter Biden with a gun felony and two tax misdemeanors, after years of slow walking their investigation."

"For AG Garland to maintain his mantra that there is one standard of justice is pathetic," Blackburn continued. "If the DOJ thinks this dismisses the $5 million alleged bribery scheme or the years of reported Biden family corruption, they are mistaken. We will not allow full accountability to fall by the wayside."

HUNTER BIDEN AGREES TO PLEAD GUILTY IN FEDERAL TAX, GUN CASE

The first son has been under federal investigation since 2018, which began amid the discovery of suspicious activity reports (SARs) regarding funds from "China and other foreign nations." 

The firearms charge stemmed from allegations that Hunter Biden lied during a gun purchase in 2018. 

Republicans have accused Hunter of selling President Biden’s influence overseas during his vice presidency.

"America has 2 million people incarcerated right now," Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., told Fox News Digital. "We have six thousand jails. We could have found a place for Hunter. But the truth is, nobody really cares about Hunter Biden. Hunter was a rookie influence peddler and a troubled young man selling access to his Dad. He’s a part of the Biden Crime Family, but he’s not the Big Guy, he wasn’t the VP, and he’s not the inaugurated President."

"House Oversight Committee Republicans know what our job is. We’re focused on The Big Guy, Joe Biden," he added.

BIDEN'S CLAIM TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF HUNTER'S BUSINESS DEALINGS IS BECOMING HARDER TO MAINTAIN

"This is deflection, deflection, deflection," Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., told Fox News Digital. "Hunter Biden has been involved in more serious crimes and this plea deal creates an illusion that justice has been served—it hasn’t." 

The news of the charges against Hunter Biden came one week after Former President Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential front-runner, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to 37 federal felony charges in a classified records case. 

"We have a very clear picture right now of what it looks like when the Biden DOJ goes after someone it wants to take down," Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital. "This is clearly not that."

"Let’s be clear: the Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveal a two-tiered system of justice," House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., said in a statement. 

"Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling, and possibly bribery," Comer said. "These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed."

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., called Attorney General Merrick Garland a "disgrace."

"Let's be clear: if anyone without the Biden last name engaged in even a fraction of Hunter's misconduct, they'd face real consequences," Cotton tweeted.

"Biden's son got a sweetheart deal for laundering money, accepting millions in bribes, committing gun crimes, and evading taxes & child support," the senator added. "Yet DOJ targeted a pro-life pastor w/ a 25-person SWAT team and serious charges. AG Garland is a disgrace."

Trump compared the charges to a traffic ticket on his TruthSocial site.

"Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!" Trump wrote.

John Yoo, a former deputy assistant attorney general under the Bush administration, told Fox News Digital: "We will still need to see all the facts, but if this plea bargain ends the Justice Department’s investigation into any influence peddling by the Biden family, it will only reinforce the perception that the administration is treating Trump and Biden differently. It will fall to Congress to continue investigating the allegations of improper foreign payments to Hunter Biden and others."

The Republican National Committee tweeted: "It is clear that Joe Biden's Department of Justice is offering Hunter Biden a sweetheart deal. Does anyone think the DOJ would ever offer this to an American who wasn't related to Joe Biden?"

"This is the epitome of the politicization and Weaponization of Joe Biden’s Department of Justice as they give a slap on the wrist to President Biden’s son – a tax fraud and corrupt pay-to-play criminal," Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., told Fox News Digital. 

"It’s never been more clear that we have a two tiered system of justice when you have the son of the sitting President of the United States selling our country out to the highest bidder, laundering money, committing tax fraud, accepting bribes, illegally obtaining a firearm, and shamefully avoiding child support," she continued. "House Republicans will not rest until the full illegal corruption of the Biden Crime Family is exposed. Joe Biden must and will be held accountable."

The White House reacted to the charges Tuesday morning. 

"The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life," White House spokesperson Ian Sams said in a statement. "We will have no further comment."

Operation underway: Timeline of OceanGate's missing Titanic tour submarine and the mission to save its crew

News of OceanGate Expedition's missing submarine exploded on Monday as the U.S. and Canadian coast guards sprang into action with search and rescue missions.

Here is the timeline of how OceanGate's Titan submersible went missing during its descent to the wreckage of the Titanic.

JUNE 17: U.K. billionaire Hamish Harding, one of the tourists aboard the missing sub, posts to Facebook one day before the sub is set to begin its descent.

"Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023," Harding wrote "A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow. We started steaming from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada yesterday and are planning to start dive operations around 4am tomorrow morning. Until then we have a lot of preparations and briefings to do."

LIVE UPDATES: SEARCH FOR OCEANGATE’S TITAN SUBMARINE 

JUNE 18: Harding boards the submersible alongside Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Sulaiman Dawood, 19. OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush also boards the submersible, as well as an OceanGate pilot whose identity has not been confirmed.

Critically, the crew are sealed into the vehicle with 17 bolts, and it cannot be opened from the inside. The craft has enough stored oxygen to keep the crew alive for 96 hours.

The Titan then departs the Polar Prince mothership Sunday morning and begins its descent over the wreckage of the Titanic. The ship loses contact with the submersible 1 hour and 45 minutes into the dive.

JUNE 19: At an unknown time, OceanGate sounds the alarm from the Polar Prince that the submersible has gone missing.

Immediately, the U.S. Coast Guard Northeast diverts a C-130 aircraft already in the area to begin searching the ocean surface. The Titan is designed to automatically surface in the event of a technical failure. If it is on the surface, rescuers must reach it within the 96-hour window to unseal the vehicle and release the crew.

Some failure may have caused the vehicle to remain stuck underwater. Rescue Coordination Center Halifax in Canada also delivers a P8-Poseidon aircraft, which is capable of dropping sonar buoys that can search underwater.

The U.S. and Canadian coast guards also dispatch more aircraft to the search area, located 900 miles off the U.S. northeast coast.

During this time, Harding's stepson, Brian Szasz, confirms that Harding is on board the submersible in a statement on social media.

JUNE 20: Rescuers have been searching for roughly 48 hours and have covered 10,000 square miles of ocean, with no sign of the missing submersible.

Engro Corp. confirms that Dawood and his son are aboard the submersible in addition to Harding. OceanGate also confirms that CEO Rush is on board.

"All that we know so far is that contact was lost with their submersible craft," Engro wrote at the time. "There is limited information available beyond this that we know, and we humbly request that speculation and theorization is avoided."

Meanwhile, rescue efforts are ongoing as the U.S. Coast Guard reaches out to both the U.S. Navy and the private sector for assistance. A commercial pipe-laying ship arrives to the area. Rescuers hope it will allow them to search depths of up to 3,800 meters after an unsuccessful night.

JUNE 20, 1 p.m. ET: The U.S. Coast Guard will offer an update on the latest rescue efforts.

3 men convicted in US trial that scrutinized China's 'Operation Fox Hunt' repatriation campaign

Three men were convicted of various charges Tuesday in a trial showcasing U.S. claims that China has engineered pressure campaigns on American soil to bully expatriates into returning home, part of an effort called "Operation Fox Hunt."

American private investigator Michael McMahon and two Chinese citizens living in the U.S. — Zheng Congying and Zhu Yong — all were accused of taking part in scare tactics aimed at a former Chinese official. He was living quietly in New Jersey, and Beijing wanted him back.

Zhu was convicted of acting as an illegal foreign agent, stalking, interstate stalking conspiracy and conspiring to act as an illegal foreign agent. Zheng was convicted of stalking and stalking conspiracy but acquitted of the other charges.

McMahon was convicted of all except conspiracy to act as a foreign agent.

The Brooklyn federal court trial was the first to result from a spate of U.S. prosecutions scrutinizing China’s Operation Fox Hunt, a nearly decade-old initiative that Beijing characterizes as a pursuit of fugitives from justice. U.S. authorities view it, at least sometimes, as an exercise in "transnational repression," or deploying government operatives to harass, threaten and silence critics living abroad.

China has denied trying to force repatriations through intimidation and says the U.S. is maligning an effort to fight crime.

Prosecutors say pressure from Beijing was brought to bear in suburban New Jersey, where former Wuhan city official Xu Jin and his family moved in 2010. China has accused him and wife Liu Fang of taking bribes; they deny it and say they were targeted because he got crosswise with China’s Communist power structure.

According to prosecutors, Zhu, Zheng and McMahon took part in a years long, multipronged effort to goad Xu into going back to China. The country couldn’t officially compel him to do so, as it has no extradition treaty with the U.S.

The defense acknowledged that Zhu, Zheng and McMahon took various actions but said the three had no idea that Beijing was allegedly behind it all.

McMahon said he was "devastated by the verdict," insisting that all he had done was his job as a private investigator.

BIDEN CLAIMS SPY BALLOON WAS 'MORE EMBARRASSING' FOR CHINA, SUGGESTS IT WASN'T 'INTENTIONAL'

"If I had known for one second that they were a foreign country, a foreign government, hiring me, I would never have worked the case. I would have notified the FBI," McMahon said. His lawyer, Lawrence Lustberg, said he would challenge the conviction and was confident that "this injustice will not survive the scrutiny that the legal system will give it."

Zheng and Zhu left court without speaking to reporters. Messages seeking comment were sent to their attorneys.

McMahon, a former New York City police sergeant, conducted surveillance and data searches to smoke out Xu’s carefully guarded address and information about his loved ones. Zhu, a retiree who also goes by Jason Zhu and Yong Zhu, helped hire McMahon and equip him with details to get started.

Zheng later went to Xu’s home and left an ominous note: "If you are willing to go back to the mainland and spend 10 years in prison, your wife and children will be all right. That’s the end of this matter!"

"Before I saw this, I felt that the threats from the Chinese Communist Party was only a mental threat to me. However, when I saw that note, I realized that it had become a physical threat," Xu testified, through a court interpreter.

The defense said McMahon, Zheng and Zhu were told they were helping to collect a debt or achieve some other end for a company or individuals — not for China.

"They were used, cheated, misguided by a foreign government to work for them," Zhu’s attorney, Kevin Tung, said in a closing argument.

But Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Heeren said the three "agreed to participate in something that went way, way over the line ... a line that all three defendants knew they were crossing."

The trial unfolded at a fraught time in U.S.-China relations. The two powers have been at odds in recent years over a growing list of issues: trade, industrial espionage, human rights, Taiwan, the South China Sea, Russia’s war against Ukraine, U.S. allegations of Chinese spying, and Washington’s claims that Beijing is tracking and harassing dissidents overseas.

The two nations said they made some progress toward improving relations in recent days, when U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and top diplomats. But it remains unclear whether the countries will be able to bridge their biggest divides, and Blinken said he left empty-handed on a key request: better military-to-military communication.

China announced Operation Fox Hunt in July 2014 as an effort to go after corrupt officials and criminals who had fled the country. However, Beijing’s wanted list has included people whose political and cultural views conflicted with those of China’s ruling Communist Party.

U.S. prosecutors have brought several criminal cases involving alleged Operation Fox Hunt endeavors. In one, a pregnant U.S. citizen was held in China for eight months and pressured to persuade her mother to return to the country, prosecutors said.

Zheng, McMahon and Zhu were charged alongside eight other people also accused of harassing Xu, the former Wuhan official. Three have pleaded guilty; five are believed to be in China.

Prosecutors said the arm-twisting included derogatory Facebook messages to friends of Xu’s adult daughter and an onslaught of letters to a relative in New Jersey.

At one point, a Chinese prosecutor even flew Xu’s unwilling, octogenarian father to New Jersey to lean on his son to return to their homeland, according to prosecutors and trial testimony.

American woman pushed down 165-foot ravine at German castle released from hospital

The 22-year-old American tourist who was pushed down a 165-foot ravine in an attack that resulted in the death her friend near the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany has been released from the hospital officials said Monday. 

The 22-year-old woman was attempting to stop a 30-year-old Michigan man from allegedly assaulting her 21-year-old friend after he lured them onto a secluded trail that led to the Marienbruecke, or Marien Bridge, viewpoint.

The younger of the two friends was also pushed down the steep slope after the man allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The names of the victims and suspect have not been released due to German privacy laws. 

The pair landed near each other after falling some 165 feet down the Pöllat Gorge.

"The younger of the two women was attacked by the suspect," police spokesman Holger Stabik said following the Wednesday attack. "The older one tried to rush to her aid, was then choked by the suspect and subsequently pushed down a slope."

A mountain rescue team responded to the incident and reached the women near the bottom of the gorge shortly after the attack. 

The 22-year-old was "responsive" and taken to a hospital, while her friend was life-flighted by helicopter to a separate hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect has been arrested and is being held on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and attempted sexual assault.

German police have asked that anyone with knowledge, footage or pictures of the incident contact the police through a website set up specifically to obtain additional information on the attack. 

Stabik said German authorities have received some two dozen photos and videos relating to the alleged attack. 

Prosecutors have said the women did not know the man who attacked them.

The investigation remains ongoing and a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, Thomas Hörmann, said it could be three to four months before an indictment is issued.

Europe breaks against puberty blockers as US becomes 'outlier' in defending treatments for transgender minors

Several countries in Europe are now discouraging giving puberty blockers to children as the "outlier" U.S. continues to defend the treatment, according to a new report.

The United Kingdoms National Health Service limited the use of puberty blockers for clinical research this month, according to its website, citing "significant uncertainties surrounding the use of hormone treatments."

"We are now going out to targeted stakeholder testing on an interim clinical commissioning policy proposing that, outside of a research setting, puberty suppressing hormones should not be routinely commissioned for children and adolescents who have gender incongruence/dysphoria," the UK's NHS website reads. 

The U.S. medical community largely believes the science behind transgender medical treatments is settled, according to the Wall Street Journal, writing, "The U.S. is becoming an outlier among many Western nations in the way its national medical institutions treat children suffering from distress over gender identity."

INDIANA GOV. HOLCOMB GREENLIGHTS TRANS PROCEDURE BAN FOR MINORS

Delegates at the American Medical Association's annual meeting recently backed a resolution co-sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics and others that renewed their support for treatments such as puberty blockers, the outlet reported.

Countries such as Canada, Australia and Spain still allow puberty blockers, according to the Journal, but some are sounding the alarm. 

The president of the Italian Psychoanalytic Society wrote a letter to Italy's prime minister Giorgia Meloni in January about having "serious concerns" over the use of puberty blockers. 

GOP lawmakers repeatedly cited European studies during a recent congressional hearing, including Texas Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who demanded answers from Yale School of Medicine assistant professor Meredithe McNamara, a Democratic witness, about studies that support these treatments for minors.

"If you're doing a therapy, and it's, you know, temporary, fine, whatever, maybe let's try it and see if it works," he continued. There's no systematic review that states that there's strong evidence of benefits."

"Sir, are you aware of how the quality evidence grading system works and how it's applied?" McNamara responded, failing to name specific studies after the two went back and forth. 

"You're not telling me any study, don't say 'standards of care,'" Crenshaw said. "Tell me one."

"So, um, the standards of care," McNamara said.

"The standards of care," Crenshaw questioned. "That's not a journal, that's not a study. That's not an organization. That's not an institution. You're just saying words. Name one study."

Several states have enacted laws banning the use of puberty blockers for minors. A judge in Indiana recently blocked a law prohibiting puberty blockers and hormone treatments for children that was set to take effect on July 1.

Cardinals' World Series hero David Freese declines invitation to team's Hall of Fame

David Freese, the hero of the 2011 World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals, stunningly declined the invitation to be inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.

Fans chose Freese in the online voting for this year’s class. On Saturday, the Cardinals said Freese recently informed the team he wanted to withdraw his candidacy.

"This is something that I have given an extreme amount of thought to, humbly, even before the voting process began. I am aware of the impact I had helping the team bring great memories to the city I grew up in, including the 11th championship, but this honor means more to me," Freese said in a statement.

Freese was the MVP of the 2011 World Series and National League Championship Series. He had three home runs in the NLCS victory over the Milwaukee Brewers and then had seven RBI in the World Series against the Texas Rangers. He hit the walk-off home run in Game 6 to extend the series and was 1-for-2 with two RBI in the deciding Game 7.

Cardinal Nation is basically the reason why I’ve unfortunately waited so long for this decision and made it more of a headache for so many people. I feel strongly about my decision and understand how people might feel about this. I get it. I’ll wear it. Thank you for always being there for me, and I am excited to be around the Cardinals as we move forward."

He spent five years in St. Louis. He hit .286 with a .783 OPS and 44 home runs. He was an All-Star for the only time in his career in 2012. He would leave the team after the 2013 season.

"Although we are disappointed that David has declined to be inducted into our Hall of Fame, we respect his decision and look forward to celebrating his great Cardinals career in other ways going forward," Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III said in a statement. "He is always welcome at Busch Stadium."

NASAs Juno spacecraft captures photo of lightning glow on Jupiter during close fly-by of gas giant world

NASA has begun to release photos taken by the spacecraft Juno during its 31st close flyby of Jupiter in late 2020. 

A photo released Thursday shows a vortex near the gas giant’s north pole with an observable glow from a bolt of lightning. 

The agency noted that lightning bolts on Jupiter, much like they do on Earth, occur in clouds containing an ammonia-water solution and are seen most often near the poles. 

The lightning photo was captured as Juno was completing its 31st close flyby of Jupiter on Dec. 30, 2020. Citizen scientist Kevin M. Gill processed the image from raw data from the JunoCam instrument aboard the spacecraft in 2022.

When the lightning photo was taken, the spacecraft was nearly 20,000 miles above Jupiter’s cloud tops, at a latitude of 78 degrees while approaching the planet. 

Juno’s orbits will move closer to Jupiter in the coming months as the spacecraft passes over the giant planet’s nightside, NASA said. 

Juno has performed more than 50 flybys of Jupiter and flown more than 510 million miles. It arrived at Jupiter on July 4, 2016, with the first science flyby occurring 53 days later.
