Killer who murdered teacher on morning run gets earful from family at sentencing

The man accused of the 2022 kidnapping and killing of Memphis mother and teacher Eliza Fletcher pleaded guilty Monday and will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Cleotha Abston, 40, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence. A judge sentenced Abston to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Fletcher, a 34-year-old mother of two young boys and a kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School, vanished during an early morning jog in September 2022. Her disappearance sparked a widespread search that lasted for days, until her body was discovered in South Memphis.

"I want us today to acknowledge and celebrate the life of Liza Fletcher, a beloved daughter, wife, mother and teacher who was tragically kidnapped and murdered in a senseless act of random predatory violence," Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said in a statement Monday. "Today’s agreement achieves finality for the family. The defendant gives up his right to appeal, so there won’t be years and decades of appeals. It also helps the community, because this dangerous person will never again walk our streets. He will die in prison."

MEMPHIS FELON ACCUSED OF JOGGING TEACHER'S ABDUCTION AND MURDER DUE BACK COURT

Before the resolution, Abston’s trial was expected to begin Feb. 10, but he gave up his right to appeal Monday.

During Abston's sentencing, Mulroy read a statement from Fletcher’s family addressed to her killer.

"We have no idea what happened to you to turn you into someone so filled with a desire to hurt people. Whatever it was, it does not excuse or explain what you have done. You have changed our lives forever, and nothing will ever be the same," the family statement said.

"Your actions were evil. There is no other word for it. You murdered Liza, even though she did nothing to deserve it. She did not hurt you. In fact, she would’ve been the first to help if you needed it."

ELIZA FLETCHER DEATH: MEMPHIS KIDNAPPING SUSPECT CLEOTHA ABSTON HELD WITHOUT BOND

In the early morning hours of Sept. 2, 2022, Abston camped out in the area before snatching Fletcher off the street during her morning jog, forcing her into his SUV, sexually assaulting her and shooting her in the back of the head.

Surveillance cameras recorded Abston sprinting out of a GMC Terrain SUV and forcibly grabbing Fletcher around 5:30 a.m. He lost his Champion slides footwear at the scene, and police found his DNA on them.

Abston was identified through forensic evidence and surveillance footage, Mulroy wrote in a second statement Monday. He was arrested the day after Fletcher was reported missing, with security footage capturing him cleaning his SUV.

Abston is a repeat offender with juvenile convictions that include rape and aggravated assault.

ELIZA FLETCHER KIDNAPPING: MEMPHIS TEACHER KILLED IN SUSPECTED 'ISOLATED ATTACK BY A STRANGER,' POLICE SAY

At his sentencing, Abston lowered his head when speaking to the judge but showed no reaction after pleading guilty to the kidnapping and murder, WREG reported. He answered "yeah" to most questions.

"We miss the bright light of Liza’s life every day. Liza meant so much to so many, and her smile radiated happiness, energy, and comfort. Her husband, her children, her parents, her brother, the rest of her family, her friends, her students, her school families, her fellow teachers, her church community, and so many others were moved by countless examples of her faith, kindness, and compassion," the full statement from Fletcher's family said, according to the outlet.

"No legal resolution and no sentence can diminish the anguish of Liza’s murder. We accept the outcome that her murderer has pled guilty to all charges, will wake up in prison for the rest of his life, and cannot harm anyone else."

Philly's firefighters union backs Bob Casey's rival in Senate race

The firefighters' union representing Pennsylvania’s largest city endorsed Republican businessman David McCormick in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race Thursday.

The president of IAFF Local 22, the union representing more than 4,500 firefighters and first responders in Philadelphia, said this election cycle was the first time they’d met with Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. over his 12 years in office.

"Dave McCormick possesses all the qualities that will catapult us forward," union president Mike Bresnan said at a press conference announcing the endorsement.

"We are confident that Dave McCormick will show up when we need him. He is unequivocally the right choice for senator at this pivotal moment in our country’s history."

Speaking at the Northern Liberties-based union hall, McCormick said that first responders see first-hand how parts of Philadelphia and the country at-large are struggling and facing the repercussions of lax criminal justice policies.

"We’re here today to talk about exactly why these folks are voting for change, as opposed to the status quo," he said.

"We have urban decay, skyrocketing murder rates. They're making sections of this incredible city a terrifying place to raise children," he said, as he stood only a mile or so from Kensington, the North Philadelphia neighborhood often dubbed "America’s largest open-air drug market."

He pointed to "Soros-funded prosecutors" in terms of progressive law enforcement policies, naming Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, as one who has "undermined the rule of law" in his work.

"[Casey] has essentially supported policies that have made the jobs of these [firefighters and first responders] a lot tougher. He supports liberal prosecutors like Larry Krasner. He refuses to stand up for a tough order and tough border policies and voted against a total of $800 million in funds for opioid and narcotic detection in the Senate."

McCormick added that Casey also voted against Kate’s Law, a bill that would mandate minimum imprisonment for illegal immigrant felons, after a young woman was murdered by a Mexican national several years ago on a San Francisco pier.

The Republican nodded to the fact that the IAFF’s local in Philadelphia endorsed Casey in his re-election bid against former Hazleton mayor and U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., in 2018, appearing to suggest that the nod his way this year was groundbreaking.

McCormick concluded by criticizing Casey and others over the closure of the PYREX manufacturing plant in Charleroi, Washington County, Pa., where the company is based.

"He ignored the union workers there for weeks. He only spoke to them after he heard that I was standing with them in solidarity."

Adding to the endorsement, Bresnan said Thursday that McCormick "is unequivocally the right choice for senator at this pivotal moment in our country’s history."

Philadelphia, both the largest and bluest city in Pennsylvania, has received more attention from statewide Republicans in recent races.

In 2022, Dr. Mehmet Oz visited Kensington to treat the drug addicts in the infamous neighborhood. Former President Donald Trump also stopped just outside the city limits in Trevose recently for his widely-covered "shift" at the local McDonald's’ drive-thru.

Trump had held an event in Center City earlier in the campaign cycle to celebrate the release of new, branded footwear he was hawking.

The former president’s 2016 win was bolstered by votes in Philadelphia’s once-reliably moderate-Republican western and northern suburbs – an area that became disaffected with the right in 2020 in supporting Joe Biden and in 2022 in helping to elect Gov. Josh Shapiro.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Casey campaign for comment but did not hear back by press time.

‘Golden Bachelorette’ Joan Vassos calls out Martha Stewart after brutal diss about men on show

"The Golden Bachelorette" Joan Vassos is defending the men on the dating show after Martha Stewart brutally dissed the contestants.

Vassos, 61, said she sent Stewart, 83, a direct message about her comments about "The Golden Bachelorette" men after Stewart declared the contestants aren’t attractive enough.

"I DM’d her last night. … I said dating is hard out there, and I had a great group of guys. She doesn’t know them like I know them," Vassos told Access Hollywood.

MARTHA STEWART WOULD DECLINE 'THE GOLDEN BACHELORETTE' SINCE 'THE GUYS AREN'T HOT ENOUGH'

"I got to know the inside of them as well as the outside and both are wonderful."

Her comments come after the culinary guru said she wouldn’t join the reality TV franchise.

During Sunday's episode of "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," Stewart said she wanted nothing to do with the show – even for $1 million per episode.

'GOLDEN BACHELORETTE' REVEALED AS JOAN VASSOS: 5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT 61-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER

Cohen asked Stewart if she would be interested in appearing on the show.

"Absolutely not," she replied.

Cohen then asked if she would do it for money, and Stewart quickly said she was unimpressed with the male prospects.

"No, the guys aren’t hot enough," Stewart said.

Stewart was joined by Snoop Dogg during the appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," and the rapper chimed in on his friend's reasoning.

"It ain't about money. It's about how hot the guys are," he joked.

"The Golden Bachelorette" debuted its first season Sept. 18, following the first season of "The Golden Bachelor." Ex-contestant Joann Vassos is the current bachelorette who gets to know 25 eligible suitors throughout the course of the season.

"But, you know, I said I wouldn't kiss anybody. And we all knew that was a lie. So, oh well," she added with a laugh.

In March, Kathie Lee Gifford told Fox News Digital she was offered the role as "The Golden Bachelorette" but declined. She said she had no interest in joining the franchise.

Promote healthy hair with beer; experts weigh in on potential benefits and how to use it in hair care routines

A tried-and-true hair routine can be difficult to establish. The same routine simply isn't going to work for everyone because there are so many different factors at play.

Starting off by finding a shampoo and conditioner that works with your hair type is the first step to establishing your hair routine.

After that, many people incorporate different at-home remedies to help them grow luscious locks.

SKIN, HAIR BENEFITS OF JOJOBA OIL, WIDELY USED IN COSMETICS, ACCORDING TO EXPERT

One remedy that has been tried is beer for the hair. While there is a lack of clinical evidence that supports the claim that beer can benefit your hair when ingested or applied topically with a rinse, many sources cite potential benefits from beer, according to Healthline.

Below is more information on how beer could be beneficial for your hair.

Beer is not the answer to rapidly growing hair, but there could be potential benefits.

Beer contains a number of nutrients, including calcium, iron, protein, selenium, vitamin D, vitamin E and zinc, according to Healthline.

CURE FOR MEN'S HAIR LOSS COULD BE FOUND IN SUGAR STORED IN THE BODY, STUDY SUGGESTS

Though it's important to note that these nutrients can come from a lot of other foods and drinks.

"There are some vitamins and minerals that are found in beer, but your normal dietary intake is going to overcome what you get from beer," Dr. Ryan Welter, founder and CEO of Regeneris Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery and the New England Center for Hair Restoration, based in Massachusetts, told Fox News Digital in a phone call.

"There are things that you can do for your hair, obviously vitamins, nutrients and otherwise, that can stimulate the scalp to give your hair follicle better cellular structure, and then that develops stronger, better hair. … Beer is not doing that," Welter added.

Beer has been used topically, in the form of a rinse, mostly for its "conditioning effect."

THESE 5 BALDING AND HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS COULD HELP ENSURE A HEALTHY SCALP, EXPERTS SAY

"Beer in your hair is more like a conditioning effect. So, your hair has basically character protein strands, and as things can adhere to these strands, it can help your hair appear to be much more healthy than it is or actually augment how healthy it is by conditioning it basically," he said.

There are different remedies you can try to promote long, healthy hair.

For example, there are several different oils that are known to promote hair growth.

These oils include rosemary, pumpkin, lavender, peppermint and tea tree, Dr. Brooke Jeffy, a board-certified dermatologist from Scottsdale, Arizona, previously told Fox News Digital.

To give your hair extra shine without the alcohol content, a solution of apple cider vinegar and water (one part vinegar to three parts water) could do the trick because it "debrides the scalp and hair of buildup and results in shiny hair," said Tiffany Young, a certified trichologist and CEO of Thin Hair Thick, based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Those who decide to incorporate a beer rinse into their hair routine can do so in tandem with hair washing, according to Welter.

That said, how often it should be done depends on the person and their hair type. Some can get away with washing their hair once a week, while others need to wash more often for optimal health.

"Your hair, over time, will accumulate oils and dirt," Welter said.

When you get more oil and dirt in your hair, it will become gritty and greasy, signaling it's time for a wash, he also said.

Welter suggested rinsing and repeating with hair washing to ensure the scalp is clean.

For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle

"Now, the other caveat to that is that if you wash your hair a lot, your scalp can become dry, or too oily," he said.

"If it's too oily, you might get pustules or acne on your scalp. If it's too dry, you're going to get flakes, dandruff and that sort of thing. So the amount of times per week that you wash your hair really should be dependent on your scalp."

As far as how long you should leave beer in your hair, five or so minutes should do the trick.

"Generally, when you do a conditioner, you should leave the conditioner in your hair … usually, a minimum of five minutes to get it to bind to the keratin and adhere to all the areas it's going to stick to. Then it's a light rinse, and you're done," Welter said.

When it comes to using beer in your hair, some things you'll want to look out for are a drying effect, increased frizz as well as grittiness of the hair.

"I would pay close attention to the alcohol content with the understanding that alcohol has a tendency to dry hair out and make it frizzy with repeated use," Young told Fox News Digital.

"If you get too many oils or proteins in your hair, you're going to get grittiness," Welter said.

Key battleground state voter registration data shows influential shifts favoring GOP

The Democratic Party is losing its edge over the GOP in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania, with Democrats changing their party affiliation at more than twice the rate of Republicans, according to state data released after voter registration ended Monday evening.

A total of 9,088,583 registered voters were tallied across the state when the sign-up period ended at midnight on Monday. Registered Democrats maintained a lead over registered Republicans, at 3,971,607 registered Democrats to the GOP’s 3,673,783.

More than 1.4 million voters are registered as third-party or independent voters in the Keystone State.

Though the Democratic Party accounts for nearly 44% of registered voters compared to the GOP's 40%, it has seen its advantage over Republicans dwindle this year.

BIDEN'S OLD BACKYARD NOW A KEY PENNSYLVANIA BATTLEGROUND FILLED WITH 'PURPLE' VOTES

In 2020, there were 9,090,962 registered voters across the parties in Pennsylvania, only slightly more than the 9,088,583 voters registered this cycle.

President Biden won the state in 2020 by 1.17 percentage points. That year, Democrats had a larger margin of registered voters compared to their Republican counterparts, at 4.2 million to 3.5 million. The data show that Democrats had a registration advantage over Republicans by 685,818 voters during an election Biden won by 80,555 votes.

The GOP has whittled down that lead this year to a 297,824 margin. When comparing registered voters this election year to 2020, Democrats face a net loss of 257,281 voters, while Republicans have a net gain of 428,537 registered voters.

'BLUE WALL' DEMOCRAT ALIGNS WITH TRUMP IN NEW PITCH TO VOTERS BEFORE ELECTION

More than double the number of previously registered Democrats changed their party affiliation this cycle compared to the number of registered Republicans who left the party: 54,668 registered Democrats changed their party affiliation compared to 25,634 Republicans, Pennsylvania Department of State data shows.

The data is broken down by county, with Philadelphia notably reporting 18,928 Democrats changed their party affiliation compared to just 3,401 Republicans doing the same. Bucks County, which sits outside of the City of Brotherly Love, reported 2,089 Democrats changed their party affiliation compared to 1,624 Republicans. In Allegheny County, home to the state's second-largest city of Pittsburgh, 6,564 Democrats changed their party affiliation while 2,202 Republicans did the same.

The registered voter data comes after reports surfaced that concerns were mounting within the Democratic Party that the Harris campaign is failing to effectively connect with voters in Pennsylvania.

Poor campaign management and staffers lacking relationships with Democratic political leaders in the Keystone State are allegedly rocking the campaign, Politico reported last week. The outlet reported that Democrats are worried that the campaign’s state manager lacks an understanding of Philadelphia, the state’s largest city, while campaign staffers have allegedly not invited local Democratic politicians to events in the state, and have not effectively deployed surrogates.

KAMALA HARRIS 'HAS BECOME TOXIC' FOR PENNSYLVANIA, TOP KEYSTONE STATE LAWMAKER SAYS

Politico reported that it spoke with 20 Democratic politicians, allies and party leaders for the story, who reported they are restless over Harris’ campaigning efforts.

"Our campaign is running the largest and most sophisticated operation in Pennsylvania history," Harris’ national campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodriguez said in comment to Fox News Digital when asked about the report last week. "While Trump’s team still refuses to tell reporters how few staff they have in the state, we have 50 coordinated offices and nearly 400 staff on the ground."

"While the Trump campaign closed its ‘minority outreach offices,’ we invested in targeted advertising to Black and Latino voters starting in August of 2023 and have now spent more than any previous presidential campaign on outreach to these communities. The Vice President is also campaigning aggressively in Pennsylvania – spending 1 out of 3 days in the state in September."

Vulnerable incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Casey made national headlines last week when he distanced himself from Democratic Party leaders and launched a campaign ad detailing how he "bucked Biden" and "sided" with former President Trump.

The ad features a married couple – Republican Marygrace and her Democrat husband Joe – praising Casey as an "independent," citing his support for Trump's trade policies and efforts to "protect fracking" from the Biden administration.

INEFFECTIVE PLANNING, LACK OF CONNECTIONS HAS DEMS ON EDGE IN 'KEY' BATTLEGROUND: REPORT

"Our marriage – pure bliss! But on politics, we just don’t agree. Except for Bob Casey. He’s independent," Marygrace says, with her husband chiming in, "That's right!"

"Casey’s leading the effort to stop corporate greedflation and price-gouging," Marygrace continues. "Casey bucked Biden to protect fracking and he sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China to stop them from cheating. So in this house, we agree, it’s Bob Casey who’s doing right by Pennsylvania."

MCCORMICK SEIZES ON PENNSYLVANIA SENATE RACE GAP, LAYING BORDER BLAME ON CASEY

Casey has served in the Senate since 2007, ultimately becoming a stalwart within the Democratic Party, voting on legislation Biden supported, for example, 98.5% of the time, according to FiveThirtyEight data. He is now facing his toughest re-election effort yet, as he squares up against Republican challenger Dave McCormick.

The Fox News Power Rankings score the presidential contest in Pennsylvania as a toss-up, with the Senate race a lean Democrat designation. The Cook Political Report, this week, however, shifted the Senate contest from a leans Democrat race to a toss-up race, underscoring Casey’s difficult re-election battle.

Pennsylvania is touted as the state that will likely determine the outcome of the general election on Nov. 5. A Fox News survey of Pennsylvania voters published late last month found Harris narrowly ahead of Trump by 2 points (50-48%) among registered voters, while the race is tied at 49% each among likely voters.

John Lennon, Yoko Ono were 'obsessed with staying skinny' like Hollywood stars, author says

John Lennon and Yoko Ono were "obsessed" with staying thin, according to a new book.

Elliot Mintz, a former radio and television host who went on to become a publicist and entertainment correspondent, wrote about Lennon and Ono in his book "We All Shine On: John, Yoko, & Me," and in doing so, he revealed just how much importance the former couple placed on their weight.

Mintz, who first met Ono during an interview and who later befriended Lennon as well, spoke with People about the book, and he explained that they were "obsessed with staying skinny," adding that "John kept a journal where each day he would write what his weight was."

JOHN LENNON NEARLY WROTE WITH PAUL MCCARTNEY AGAIN AFTER BEATLES BREAKUP, EX SAYS: ‘WOULD HAVE HAPPENED’

"They thought that everybody in Hollywood was slim and trim and that there were magic diet pills," he said, "and insisted I get that for them."

In the book, obtained by Fox News Digital, he recalled Lennon calling him once at 4 a.m. to ask him to procure the pills because he'd heard that Mintz had taken them. Mintz explained that he hadn't taken pills, but that he'd gotten weight-loss injections, and Lennon asked him to get those for him instead.

He said that Lennon told him, "I'm just looking to appear fit. Can you call around and see if you can get me the injections? Would you do that for me?"

Mintz learned later on that Lennon had "struggled his whole life" with his weight, writing that, "He used to joke that back when they filmed ‘Help!' he was in his ‘fat Elvis’ period: he was very self-conscious about that and took it very seriously. He'd tried every fad diet in the world and was clearly open to any other new weight-loss methods that came along."

He claimed that Ono was "equally fixated with her weight," to the point that they organized their walk-in closet "according to their fluctuating sizes, with department store-style clothing carousels numbered by their waist measurements."

Mintz told People, "They kept their various jeans and pantsuits, whatever it might be, in different categories of waist size, 28 [inches] reaching to 32 or so, depending on how they perceived their weight and how tight the pants fit."

In his book, Mintz remembered the first time he met Lennon and Ono in person – they were staying in a home in Ojai, a town north of Los Angeles, and they invited him to visit them there.

He was hungry, and he wrote that Lennon told him to help himself to whatever was in the kitchen, but when he opened the refrigerator, he saw "nothing discernibly edible – just a few bottles of water and some containers filled with unidentifiable and unappetizing-looking substances that I presumed to be health food of some sort."

Mintz had previously claimed that both Lennon and Ono were withdrawing from methadone and that one of the side effects of that is loss of appetite, but he noted that he later learned that it was "a perennial issue," explaining, "They had unconventional tastes and seldom kept anything that appeared appetizing in their refrigerators."

He told People, "Their refrigerator was like going into this pit of curiosity. There were sometimes these paper containers, suggesting there were leftovers from the night before, and you would open the container and look in and still not be able to identify what they were eating."

Pelosi weighs in on Biden ouster, insists she only had concerns about campaign not ‘fabulous’ president

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., weighed in on President Biden ending his re-election campaign this year, saying that her concerns about Biden running again were not about the president himself but about his campaign.

Pelosi made her most recent comments about Biden stepping down from the campaign in a new interview with CNN host Christiane Amanpour that aired Saturday morning. Amanpour asked her about reports that she had a major role in convincing Biden to step down, asking her why it was the right move for the party.

"Now, my concerns were around the campaign, not about the candidate," she said, adding, "He‘s fabulous."

PELOSI DEMURS ON IF ‘EVERYTHING IS OK’ BETWEEN HER AND BIDEN: ‘YOU’D HAVE TO ASK HIM'

Pelosi was one of several Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who reportedly called on Biden to step down following a disastrous debate performance in June.

Amanpour broached the topic by asking Pelosi if she has spoken to Biden since he was replaced by Vice President Harris at the top of the ticket.

"I haven’t spoken to him since July, but of course, we‘ve been out of session for a while and I‘ve been on the campaign trail constantly," she said, stating that she has "great respect for the president."

"I think his legacy is a very substantial one for our country. It is our legacy too. I did not want that to be lost," Pelosi said, following up by saying she had problems with the campaign, not Biden himself.

"But the campaign, I thought, was not going in the right direction, and I expressed my concern about that," she added.

Pelosi made similar points in a recent interview on The Guardian's Politics Weekly America podcast. "I have the greatest respect for him. I think he’s one of the great consequential presidents of our country," Pelosi said in the interview posted Tuesday. "I think his legacy had to be protected. I didn’t see that happening in the course that it was on, the election was on."

She continued, telling the U.K. outlet, "My call was just to: ‘Let’s get on a better course.’ He will make the decision as to what that is. And he made that decision. But I think he has some unease because we’ve been friends for decades."

During an interview with CBS News in August, Biden said that Democratic lawmakers urged him to step aside.

"A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic, you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say – why did – and I thought it’d be a real distraction," Biden told CBS News' Bob Costa.

On CNN, Amanpour asked the congresswoman whether she believes the Democratic Party could have won the election if Biden was still on the ticket. Pelosi replied, "You see, it’s hard to ask me that question because I don’t understand how anybody could vote for Donald Trump, but they do and so we have to be prepared."

She did admit to being concerned that Biden’s age was going to be a challenge for the party.

"I do think there was a generational thing though that had to be recognized – the two of them – so old to be running for president."

"You never really know how you feel about someone until a moment like this happens," Cowell wrote on Instagram. "Liam, I am truly devastated. Heartbroken. And I feel empty. And I want you to know how much love and respect I have for you. Every tear I have shed is a memory of you.

"This is so difficult to put in words right now. I went outside today, and I thought about so many times we had together. I wanted to let you know what I would always say to the thousands of people who would always ask me. What is Liam like? And I would tell them you were kind, funny, sweet, thoughtful, humble, focused. And how much you loved music. And how much love you genuinely had for the fans."

Payne died Oct. 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Payne was 14 when he first auditioned for "The X Factor" in 2008. He returned to audition two years later and was chosen by Cowell to join a super group. The TV judge matched Payne up with Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

They formed the boy band One Direction and became one of the bestselling groups of all time.

"I had to tell you when you were 14 that this wasn't your time," Cowell added. "And we both made a promise that we would meet again. A lot of people would have given up. You didn't. You came back and within months the whole world knew Liam. And you never forgot the fans. I watched you spending so much time with people who had wanted to meet you. You really cared.

"You came to see me last year. Not for a meeting. Just to sit and talk. And we reminisced about all of the fun times we had together. And how proud you were to be a dad. After you left, I was reminded that you were still the sweet, kind boy I met all those years ago. I have met your son, Bear. He has your smile and that twinkle in his eyes you have. And he will be so proud of everything you achieved. And how you achieved it.

"I always thought of the 5 of you in the band as brothers," he added. "And reading their messages today I believe you were. And now Liam, I can see the effect you had on so many people. Because you left us too soon. Rest in peace my friend. And I am sending my love, thoughts and prayers to your family."

One Direction is known for the hits "What Makes You Beautiful," "Night Changes," "Story of My Life" and "Steal My Girl."

In five years, One Direction released five chart-topping studio albums and embarked on four world tours.

By 2016, One Direction announced an indefinite hiatus to pursue solo projects.

The group "will miss him terribly."

"We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing," a statement released by the band on social media said. "In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."

Robert Saleh is asked if wearing Lebanese flag caused Jets firing – how did he respond?

Robert Saleh was seen publicly for the first time since being fired as the head coach of the New York Jets.

The former coach was seen shopping at a local Whole Foods in northern New Jersey this week in footage obtained by TMZ

In the footage, Saleh was asked if he believes wearing the Lebanese flag in his last game as head coach played into him being fired just five games into the season.

Saleh did not respond to the question, and eventually drove off.

The Jets fired Saleh after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Jets Chairman Woody Johnson confirmed that he made the decision by himself in a statement on Oct. 8.

"This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction," the statement read.

During the loss in London, Saleh was seen wearing the pin on his jacket. The decision to wear the pin came amid ongoing attacks on the nation by Israel in the days prior to the game.

Saleh is of Lebanese descent and was the first Muslim head coach in NFL history. Both of Saleh's parents were born in Lebanon and immigrated to the United States ahead of his birth in 1979. Saleh previously wore the Lebanese flag on his arm during a game against the Giants, just weeks after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Saleh wore that patch during the week that NFL executive vice president of club business Peter O'Reilly released a statement encouraging players to represent their heritage via decals on the back of their helmets with their flags, while coaches added a patch to their team gear.

49ERS COACH KYLE SHANAHAN EXPLAINS WHY HE WAS 'PRETTY SHOCKED' JETS FIRED ROBERT SALEH

Shortly after Saleh's firing, the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement that called on the Jets and Johnson to explain multiple reports that Saleh was allegedly escorted out of the building by security following his firing, and also brought up the fact that Saleh was fired just days after wearing the pin.

"We commend coach Robert Saleh for making history as the first American Muslim head coach in NFL history. Although no one should jump to conclusions about why the Jets fired Coach Saleh, the report that Jets security physically escorted Saleh out of the building does raise concerns about the possible motive for such unusual hostility – especially given that Saleh wore a Lebanese flag pin at a game just days ago."

Fox News Digital has previously reached out to the Jets for comment on CAIR's statement but has received no response.

Meanwhile, Saleh released his own statement in which he thanked the Jets for his tenure with the team on Oct. 9.

"To the Jets Organization, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible people. I will always be appreciative of the love and support from everyone at 1 Jets Drive," he said in a statement to ESPN. "To the most passionate fan base in the NFL, thank you for embracing my family. It has been a pleasure calling New York our home and we will forever appreciate all of the memories that were created here. "

Patriots' Christian Barmore accuses police of racism after getting stopped for allegedly driving too slow

New England Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore accused police officers in Providence, Rhode Island, of "unprofessional racism" after he was pulled over early Wednesday morning.

Barmore was reportedly stopped at 1 a.m. in Providence after police determined he was "slow rolling" in his Jeep with tinted windows.

"This tactic is known to police by slowing down an interaction with police to hide any contraband or weapons. It should also be noted that the area is known for high narcotic usage," a Providence Police Department report said.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Officers searched Barmore's Jeep and allegedly found an ash cup with what they say appeared to be a blunt and an unknown substance. Police also said they found several tubes filled with marijuana, according to multiple reports. Barmore was cited for operation of an unregistered vehicle, display of plates penalties and driving with an expired license.

After the incident, Barmore criticized the officers who pulled him over on X.

"I just experienced for the first time [five] Providence cops being very unprofessional racism at it’s finest," Barmore wrote.

PATRIOTS' JABRILL PEPPERS HITS COMMISSIONER'S EXEMPT LIST AFTER ARREST

The department responded via a statement on Wednesday.

"The Providence Police Department takes all concerns from the public very seriously and with the utmost professionalism. In this particular case, the vehicle in question was found to be unregistered during a routine traffic stop, which is a violation of the law. The officer acted in full compliance with department protocols and state regulations," the department said.

"We understand that any encounter with law enforcement can be stressful. However, it's important to note that officers are required to enforce all applicable laws, including those related to vehicle registration. We will continue to review the situation to ensure that proper procedures were followed and to maintain transparency with the public."

Over three seasons, Barmore has totaled 12½ sacks, 133 combined tackles, one forced fumble and 18 tackles for loss. Barmore just re-signed with New England for $92 million over four years in April. However, he hasn't played in any games yet this year after being diagnosed with blood clots in July.

NFL Network reported Barmore had a bruise on the back of his calf that he "kind of thought was nothing," but Patriots trainer Jim Whalen insisted he have it checked.

"Had this gone untreated, it could’ve been the worst for Christian Barmore," Ian Rapoport said Sunday.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo addressed the situation involving Barmore's recent police encounter during a press conference Wednesday ahead of his team's upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

"We're aware of the situation. I had a conversation with him this morning. At least for this time here with you guys, I want to focus on Jacksonville," Mayo said.

Barmore is the latest Patriots player to face off-the-field issues with law enforcement this month. Defensive back and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested last week on assault and battery and drug charges. Peppers was placed on the commissioner's exempt list and is not eligible to practice with the team or attend games.

Peppers, 29, is accused of attacking his girlfriend after she reportedly received a phone call while the two were in bed. According to court documents, police were called to a home early Saturday morning over reports of an altercation.

Nathan Wade grilled by House investigators probing Georgia Trump prosecution

Former Fulton County Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade left Capitol Hill on Tuesday after a marathon four-and-a-half hour grilling by House Judiciary Committee investigators.

Wade, whose legal team included former Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes, said little to reporters before, after and during his closed-door deposition. No lawmakers were seen entering or leaving the room.

"This is all I’m going to say – we gave our testimony, we cooperated and we are through," Barnes told reporters after the session.

GEORGIA GOP CHAIR SHARES 2-PRONGED ELECTION STRATEGY AS TRUMP WORKS TO WIN BACK PEACH STATE

Barnes said "yes" when asked if it was an effective meeting and "no" when asked by Fox News Digital if he expected to follow up with the committee.

Earlier, he had testy words for a reporter who asked whether Wade would plead the Fifth Amendment, responding tersely, "What crime has been committed here?"

The House Judiciary Committee has been seeking information on Wade’s relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is investigating former President Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia. Trump and 18 allies were indicted by a grand jury in August 2023 on charges including racketeering and conspiracy.

Wade was brought into that investigation by Willis as a special prosecutor, but stepped away after it was revealed he and Willis began a romantic relationship, which has since ended.

TRUMP VS HARRIS ROUND 2? VOTERS IN KEY GA COUNTY REVEAL IF THEY WANT SECOND DEBATE

In a pair of letters published by the Republican majority on the committee on Monday night, Willis said Wade was instructed "not to answer any questions about his role in the election interference case or about any evidence in that case."

"The disclosure of such evidence may also interfere with ongoing proceedings, this is considered legally privileged and not subject to disclosure," Willis wrote.

The committee responded on X, saying, "What is she trying to hide?"

CLUB FOR GROWTH POURS $5M INTO TIGHT HOUSE RACES AS GOP BRACES FOR TOUGH ELECTION

It’s one of several probes by House Republicans into Trump’s legal battles since he left office.

Both Willis and Wade have maintained that their relationship had nothing to do with the case and have accused Republicans of trying to unjustly interfere in the Fulton County probe.

Jordan, meanwhile, is probing whether U.S. tax dollars were used to help bankroll their relationship during the course of the Trump probe.

One of Trump’s co-defendants had sued to have Willis and Wade disqualified from the case, arguing their relationship presented a conflict of interest and that they financially benefited from the probe – which they have denied.

A Fulton County judge ruled in March that Willis could stay on the case if Wade was removed.

Fox News Digital reached out to the House Judiciary Committee for comment on Wade's deposition.

'The left has perfected this': Conservatives take page from Obama's playbook in battleground Wisconsin

WISCONSIN— One conservative group taking Wisconsin by storm is tapping a strategy previously emphasized by former President Barack Obama in order to win the 2024 presidential election for Republicans.

"It's narrowing down our organizing to the ward and then mobilizing," Turning Point Action National Enterprise Director Brett Galaszewski told Fox News Digital in an interview.

The group's ballot-chase program involves "neighbors talking with other neighbors."

'DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO HE IS': WISCONSINITES TALK HARRIS' MIDWESTERN RUNNING MATE, TIM WALZ

He explained that there is more value in approaching people as their neighbor or someone they have a relationship with than as a stranger who may not be from the area.

"It's the community organizing model that Obama talked about in 2008," Galaszewski said. "You know, we laughed at Obama in 2008, as conservatives, when he said, 'I'm a community organizer.'"

But that strategy, he said, is "going to make a huge difference here."

FOR WISCONSIN DEMS, A 2024 WIN IN THE BATTLEGROUND STATE IS YEARS IN THE MAKING

Obama stressed his past as a community organizer during his presidential campaign in 2008, cutting an ad in which he referred to his experience organizing after winning the Democrat nomination that summer.

As Galaszewski noted, Republicans at the time ridiculed Obama's emphasis on his community organizing as a credential in his bid to be commander-in-chief.

Turning Point Action is running a robust ground game operation in key states, such as Wisconsin, alongside various other groups, hoping to supplement the Republican Party’s efforts. The group has the largest such operation in Wisconsin, as many expect the state to be crucial in deciding the presidential election.

SEE IT: WISCONSIN DAIRY FARMER SAYS 'NO QUESTION' TRUMP ADMIN WAS 'MUCH BETTER' THAN BIDEN-HARRIS

The all-hands-on-deck approach is beneficial for Republicans to make up some of the financial disparity between the former President Trump campaign and Vice President Harris' and the Democrats' war chest.

As Turning Point Action begins its on the ground ballot-chasing, they aren't racing to knock as many doors as possible. Instead, they are targeting specifically identified people. The group has determined that the best way to turbocharge turnout is to focus on "disengaged and low-propensity conservatives."

"We no longer see this as a war of persuasion among swing voters," said Galaszewski.

TRUMP, REPUBLICANS VENTURE TO BLUE AREAS IN WISCONSIN TO BOOST GOP TURNOUT

Many people don't value their votes as much as those heavily involved in politics, he explained.

"That's something that we know the left has really homed in on — targeting those voters with low-ballot value and making it work."

Conservatives who may not be planning to vote are the ones Turning Point Action thinks can pave the path to a Republican win. "It's a numbers game in Wisconsin," he added.

The group has hundreds of ballot-chasers working statewide in Wisconsin to turn out these potential voters. Some of them are salaried employees, whose full-time job is "to chase ballots in these territories."

Ex-NFL star questions why no flag after Saints wide receiver Chris Olave takes huge hit, knocked out of game

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave exited Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he took a hard hit from two defenders.

Olave caught a short pass from quarterback Spencer Rattler, who was starting in the first game of his NFL career in place of Derek Carr. He was met by defensive backs Zyon McCollum and Tykee Smith. As the defenders made the play on Olave, the wide receiver coughed up the ball.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. recovered the fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. Olave looked dazed and confused as medical trainers checked on him and helped him off of the field.

Former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, who was the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year, wondered where the targeting penalty was as McCollum tagged Olave to help jar the ball loose.

"Damn no targeting," Thomas wrote on X.

There was no flag and Tampa Bay took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

CALEB WILLIAMS LIFTS BEARS TO BIG WIN OVER JAGUARS WITH 4 TOUCHDOWN PASSES

Olave was later ruled out for the game with a concussion.

The third-year wide receiver came into the matchup against Tampa Bay with 22 catches for 275 yards and a touchdown through the first five games of the season.

He was in the spotlight last week after his brother wondered why he only had one target in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs.

New Orleans lost last week’s game, 26-13.

Jets holdout sued for $1.6 million; allegedly failed to pay business partner, sent 'security' to scare him off

The drama keeps adding up for Haason Reddick.

The New York Jets acquired the pass rusher back in March, but after the two sides failed to agree on a new contract before the season began, he requested a trade before even playing for them.

Reddick continues to hold out, and apparently, the situation has gotten so bad that his agents decided to no longer represent him.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

However, apparently, Reddick isn't doing too well with money after being sued by a business partner for $1.6 million.

The lawsuit, according to the New York Post, says that Reddick failed to pay Micah Khan money after Khan's claim that he had saved a business that Reddick had been running. Khan says that Reddick approached him "knowing he had experience in the home health industry and requested he take a lead role in the marketing and business development" for the business.

The parties allegedly agreed that if Reddick sold HAven Home Health Agency, Khan would receive half the profit.

Khan's suit says that Haven Home Health Agency, bought by Reddick in 2018, had been "failing" until Khan "made making Haven a successful company his primary goal, working full-time on Haven’s behalf."

HARRISON BUTKER ENDORSES DONALD TRUMP: 'THE MOST PRO-LIFE PRESIDENT'

The suit says that the business is now "a very successful company," and Reddick decided to sell the business for $3.25 million, the suit says.

However, when Khan asked for his half, he says he was physically threatened by Reddick's father "purportedly at the behest of Mr. Reddick," and "more than a dozen black-gloved men to a business meeting, claiming they were ‘Haason’s personal security.'"

"It was at this post-sale meeting that Mr. Matthews made it clear [they] intended to breach their payment obligations to [Khan]," the suit reads.

Reddick has forfeited nearly $9 million this year alone by missing camps, practices, preseason and regular season games, so perhaps he could use that extra $1.6 million.

Jets owner Woody Johnson, though, implored Reddick to "get in your car, drive down [Interstate] 95 and come to the New York Jets, and we can meet you and give you an escort right into the building."

Reddick, 30, is coming off his second straight Pro Bowl season in which he totaled 11 sacks, 38 combined tackles (13 for loss) and 23 quarterback hits for the Eagles.

He’s tallied double-digit sacks in each of his last four seasons, making him someone who could add power off the edge for a Jets defense that has done well yet again to start the new year. But, it's getting pretty clear that this holdout might just be his worst move yet.

‘Street takeovers’ terrorize towns across US as former detective warns of deadly consequences

Disruptive "street takeovers" have been causing chaos around the country and sometimes loss of life, and one former detective explains why she believes the trend has spread so rapidly.

"Street takeovers are when … large groups kind of descend upon a street to either race or burn out or do tricks in the street, effectively making it impossible for anybody who wants to use the street," Lolita Harper, executive director of the Sheriff's Employees' Benefit Association and former detective, told Fox News Digital.

"They've become … more and more dangerous in terms of the damage that they're causing, the crowds that they're attracting and the essentially taking over of entire communities and or intersections, even resulting in … property damage, cars being lit on fire, windows, smashes."

Hundreds showed up to participate in a California street takeover near Costa Mesa and Santa Ana over the weekend, FOX Los Angeles reported. Video from the scene shows large crowds gathering while a driver in a green car does doughnuts around a fire.

DO MENENDEZ BROTHERS STAND A CHANCE AT FREEDOM?

Harper believes social media has been used as a tool by these agitators to promote street takeovers.

"Technology has now made it so much easier to spread this negative message … and at the same time, attract a larger crowd, which then again makes it increase in popularity and increase in danger," she said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed four new bills aimed at helping law enforcement agencies across the state crack down on the disruptions, but Harper said her state government has not done enough to put a stop to the chaos.

"I think California has led the way for decriminalization of a lot of things," she told Fox News Digital. "We have taken such a focus away from what they're trying to call nonviolent crimes with essentially zero penalties for things that are classified as nonviolent, that they are just growing and growing because people know that they're ... not going to get in trouble."

BRAZEN VIRGINIA 'STREET TAKEOVER' CAUGHT ON VIDEO LEAVES OFFICER INJURED; 4 CHARGED

Dozens of people called 911 in Cleveland last week when wild crowds swarmed the streets with cars and guns in a disruptive street takeover, the Fox 8 I-Team reported

One person begged dispatchers for help, saying, "Police. Police. Please send some cops up here," the outlet reported.

"If windows are being smashed out or cars are being set on fire, thankfully we have things like … surveillance cameras that we can track. But again, these are long and extensive investigations," Harper said.

There are a few factors in these gatherings that make it difficult for law enforcement to hold those responsible for the disorder accountable, Harper said.

"The size of the crowds … it's hard to pinpoint who exactly is doing it. Once you have an actual presence in the area, people disperse very quickly," she said. "Large crowds mean you need a large enforcement presence that's taking away resources from other parts of the city."

Street races, takeovers, speed contests and reckless driving have all increased in percentage from April through May 2024 compared to the same time period in 2023, the Los Angeles Police Department's interim chief at the time, Dominic Choi, noted in a June report

In addition to causing noise pollution, traffic obstructions, property damage and physical injuries, street takeovers can even cause death, Choi wrote.

Harper agrees with this finding.

"The potential for loss of life is incredible," she said. "You're taking away safety. You're taking away a sense of community, feeling like … they can walk their kids to school. That's another tragedy, although it can't be quantified with a loss of life. You're taking away quality of life from these communities."

Robert Saleh wearing Lebanese flag on sweatshirt in London game played factor in Jets firing, radio host says

The New York Jets shocked many with the firing of Robert Saleh as head coach following back-to-back losses to move them to 2-3 on the year.

While owner Woody Johnson said that he consulted general manager Joe Douglas, he ultimately said he made the decision on his own.

What factored into the decision for Johnson to relieve Saleh of his duties was not divulged other than him saying he felt it was the right time to do so. However, one longtime radio host pointed to Saleh’s wardrobe choice during the team’s London game against the Minnesota Vikings as a factor.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Joe Benigno, who is a die-hard Jets fan and former radio host at WFAN, said he believed that Saleh wearing a black Jets sweatshirt with the Lebanese flag on his sleeve had something to do with his firing.

"I gotta say something else, and I hate to get political, but I have to in this case," Benigno said while on "The Jake Asman Show" on Tuesday.

ISLAMIC GROUP CALLS OUT JETS FOR FIRING ROBERT SALEH AFTER WEARING LEBANON PIN AMID ISRAEL WAR

"Saleh had the flag of Lebanon on his shirt the other day in London. Now, we all know what’s going on in the Middle East. There is no sugarcoating of what’s going on in the Middle East. We all know about Hezbollah firing all these rockets out of Lebanon, and all what’s going on there, into Israel.

"We know he is Muslim. I think he is representing the people of Lebanon, because I don’t believe the people of Lebanon really are happy with Hezbollah. I don’t think that’s the case at all. And I wonder if that has played into this in a way as well, because I did see this on the regular news that this was actually brought up."

There were some on social media who voiced displeasure with Saleh, who is of Lebanese descent, wearing the flag on his sleeve due to the current situation in the country.

Hezbollah, the Iran-backed military group in Lebanon, has a violent history with Israel, and it only escalated amid the Israel-Hamas war. The flag was seen on the day Israel bombed Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, one day before the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

However, Saleh wore the Lebanese flag patch last year as part of the NFL Heritage Program, which encourages players and coaches to honor their cultural backgrounds with patches and helmet decals on game day. Saleh also wore the patch earlier this season.

Saleh, who became the first Muslim head coach in the NFL when the Jets hired him in January 2021, is the son of Lebanese parents, who immigrated to the U.S. prior to him being born.

In his three-and-a-half seasons leading the Jets, Saleh owned a 20-36 record. He never had a season above .500 after going 4-13 in year one, followed by back-to-back seasons at 7-10.

North Carolina residents will see changes to early voting after Hurricane Helene

North Carolina election officials are adjusting their voting rules to ensure residents in areas impacted by the recent hurricane damage can vote early in the upcoming election.

Hurricane Helene made a damaging sweep across the southeast, covering swing states that had already started early voting.

But the storm caused severe damage to several predominantly red counties and early voting centers as focus shifted to disaster relief.

On Monday, the North Carolina Elections Board passed a bipartisan emergency resolution that reformed the state's early voting process in 13 counties. Notably, all except one, Buncombe, voted for former President Donald Trump in 2020.

NORTH CAROLINA GOP FOCUSING ON ‘HAND-TO-HAND POLITICAL COMBAT' TO RAMP UP GROUND GAME IN BATTLEGROUND STATE

The adjustments include changing or adding voting sites and maintaining their availability, extending the hours when a voting site is open, and adding or reducing days that any site is open within the early voting period, according to the election board.

Voters in these counties will also have more time to request an absentee ballot, with the deadline being Nov. 4.

RESIDENTS IN KEY NORTH CAROLINA DISTRICT REVEAL HOW THEY THINK THEIR COUNTY WILL VOTE IN NOVEMBER

The state's elections board identified 13 counties in western North Carolina as the most impacted by the hurricane.

The counties that will see the changes applied to their early voting processes include: Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey.

Voters in these counties will now have the option of turning in absentee ballots to another county's election board, rather than following previous protocol that mandated they only submit their ballots to their local counties.

Trump narrowly won North Carolina in 2020 by roughly 1.4 percentage points, and early voting has since been made a focus of Republican ground game efforts this cycle, the state's GOP told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

The former president, however, told Fox News that he believes despite the storm's impact, voters will still turn out for the election.

"I believe they’re going to go out and vote if they have to crawl to a voting booth," Trump told Fox News' Laura Ingraham in an interview that aired Monday. "And that’s what’s happening."

The former president added that his daughter-in-law, who co-chairs the Republican National Committee (RNC), is working on helping North Carolinians in impacted areas cast their votes.

"Lara is working on it. Other people are working on it, and we’re trying to make it convenient for them, but they just lost their house," Trump said.

In-person early voting in the Old North State begins Thursday, Oct. 17 and ends on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Colorado black bear attacks 74-year-old man after breaking into home, leaving 'significant' claw wounds

A 74-year-old Colorado man has suffered "significant" claw wounds after being attacked by a black bear that broke into his home, wildlife officials say.

The incident happened Thursday night in Lake City "after the bear and her three cubs opened a partially cracked sliding glass door" and entered the property, causing a "loud crash" that startled the residents inside, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).

"It’s certainly lucky we didn’t have a fatality, because it was close," CPW wildlife officer Lucas Martin said in a statement.

The agency says the victim of the attack "grabbed a chair from the kitchen and attempted to direct the adult bear out the door," but the female bear ended up charging him and knocking him into a wall.

"The bear swiped at the man, who incurred significant wounds from being clawed, including wounds to the head, neck, both arms, lower abdomen, shoulder and calf," CPW said.

The victim reportedly received treatment for his wounds at the scene and declined to be transported to a local hospital.

Wildlife officials said the adult female bear and all three cubs then climbed trees outside the home and "after preliminary confirmation of their involvement in the attack, all four bears involved were subsequently euthanized."

The animals' remains have since been transported to a health laboratory in Fort Collins to be tested for diseases.

"Clearly, these bears were highly habituated and were willing to enter an occupied house with the residents sitting just feet away," CPW Area Wildlife Manager Brandon Diamond said.

The incident is being described as the first reported bear attack in Colorado in 2024, compared to six reports last year.

"This is a tragic thing that has happened, and it happened because bears continue to have access to human food sources," Martin said. "We’ve talked about this for decades — access to human food sources, including trash and bird feeders, is what leads to escalating and sometimes dangerous behavior from black bears. The result is a lose-lose for bears and people."

Panthers' Tommy Tremble gets knocked out in brutal collision with Bears' Jaquan Brisker

Carolina Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble appeared to be knocked out after colliding with Chicago Bears defensive back Jaquan Brisker in the second quarter on Sunday.

Tremble caught a pass from quarterback Andy Dalton and began to run up the field when he was met by Brisker. The safety lowered his shoulder and Tremble lowered his head. The two collided and the tight end went down. The ball came loose and the Bears recovered.

Tremble didn’t return in the first half. Chicago scored on its next drive to take a 21-7 lead. Caleb Williams later threw a touchdown pass in the latter stages of the second quarter. Chicago had a 27-7 lead at the half.

He had one catch for seven yards in the game.

The fourth-year tight end was a third-round pick out of Notre Dame by the Panthers. Going into the game, he had six catches on seven targets for 52 yards in three games.

Over his career, Tremble has 68 catches for 600 yards and seven touchdowns. He played in 52 games.

Brisker has emerged as a key defensive back for the Bears. Chicago was eighth in points allowed and 10th in yards allowed through the first four weeks of the season and Brisker has been one of the reasons why.

He has 35 tackles and one interception in four games this season.

'Willful coverup': Democrat in key House race hit with ethics complaint that could derail campaign

FIRST ON FOX: A Democratic House candidate in one of the most closely watched races in the country was the subject of an ethics complaint alleging that she had failed to act on allegations of sexual harassment and assault against a man working with her campaign.

Fox News Digital obtained a complaint filed with the state's Legislative Equality Office against Janelle Bynum, running for Congress in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, alleging that Bynum had failed to be a mandatory reporter of allegations against a man working for the PAC that staffed her State Representative campaign in 2022.

The complaint also alleged that when confronted about the alleged actions, Bynum was dismissive and even threatened the individual who had reached out to her.

"During the 2024 primary election, I was contacted by an informant with information about Rep. Bynum and her willful coverup of a sexual assault of a minor volunteer who worked for her during the 2022 cycle," the complaint reads.

DEM HOUSE CANDIDATE INTRODUCED 'SOFT-ON-CRIME' BILL BACKED BY DEFUND-POLICE GROUPS: 'SLAP IN THE FACE'

The complainant claims to have "personally spoken" with two former staff members who alleged that they had reported inappropriate sexual behavior by a field organizer "directly" to Bynum, along with two others associated with the campaign, "only for nothing to be done."

"For me, the primary issue here is that all Legislators are mandatory reporters," the complaint says. "Bynum received credible information regarding one of her campaign staff sexually harassing and assaulting young volunteers, and not only did she not report it, but she also threatened to report the person who blew the whistle. . . ."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a Bynum campaign spokesperson said, "This attempt to smear Rep. Bynum is not based in reality. As a mom of two young women and a legislator who has spent her career advocating for others, Rep. Bynum takes this subject personally — which is why she flagged these accusations directly to the accuser's employer, Future PAC, as soon as she was made aware of them after the 2022 election."

"It's also why she's openly aided the Legislative Equity Office’s investigation into the matter. Rep. Bynum expected Future PAC to deal with these accusations fairly and swiftly and to ensure their employees’ well-being and safety. If Future PAC did anything less, that is unacceptable."

The Bynum campaign shared an email exchange between Bynum and the Legislative Equity Office on September 20 in which the office told her she is "not being investigated" by the office.

However, two sources familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that state police have conducted interviews regarding the complaint which was recently forwarded to them in the last couple of weeks. The nature and scope of that investigation is not known at this time.

Fox News Digital obtained text messages between a former Bynum campaign manager and Bynum in which Bynum appeared to show little interest in bringing attention to the alleged impropriety against her former staffer.

"I asked you not to send me anything and I meant that," Bynum says in a November 17th text in response to a warning from a former campaign manager about the staffer harassing women associated with the campaign. "I really can’t take anything else on my plate."

The former campaign manager continued pressing the issue a few days later.

MCDONALD'S FRANCHISE OWNER BACKED BY TOP DEMS WINS KEY PRIMARY THAT COULD SWING CONTROL OF CONGRESS

"While as unfortunate as this may be for you or [redacted] I am NOT siting (sic) by while someone like this gets off scott free treating young women abusively like that," the former campaign manager texted Bynum on November 21, 2022. "If he gets a job down there this won't be the last you hear of it I promise."

Bynum responds by asking, "Are you threatening me?"

"Woah, easy there," the former campaign manager responds. "I am promising you and anyone else that I am not OK with someone treating young women like that."

"I'll consider reporting your actions," Bynum responded. "Thank you for letting me know."

In another text thread on November 14, 2022, a FuturePAC staffer says, "It's best we handle telling Janelle" and says we will "certainly flag" the concerns.

It is unclear the exact date that Bynum flagged the concerns through the appropriate channels, but two sources familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that the accused staffer has continued to be associated with FuturePAC in the last couple of years and held a position with the Oregon State Legislature after the 2022 campaign. FuturePAC did not respond to an inquiry related to this allegation shared with Fox News Digital.

OREGON DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE PRIORITIZES LOOPHOLES OVER COMPENSATION, ADVOCATES ARGUE

Fox News Digital reviewed text messages between Bynum and a FuturePAC staffer between November 22, four days after the text exchange with the former campaign manager, and November 30 where she attempted to get him on the phone about an unspecified matter.

Two sources familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that multiple staffers at FuturePAC, a campaign arm of Oregon House Democrats that staffs local campaigns, were aware of concerns and allegations against the individual during the campaign but told staffers it would be addressed after the campaign concluded. A spokesperson for FuturePAC denied these allegations.

"To our knowledge, during the 2022 cycle no official complaints that would have triggered [an] investigation under the contract were made regarding the staff assigned to Rep. Bynum's campaign," a FuturePAC spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "FuturePAC hires and manages the campaign staff working on campaigns that we are supporting — as such, campaign staffers are FuturePAC employees, not employees of individual candidates. We take all allegations regarding staff conduct during campaign work seriously."

"Our union contract agreement with the Campaign Workers Guild requires official complaints and investigations to be handled through FuturePAC — campaigns and candidates are not allowed to be responsible for investigations of any workplace conduct. To our knowledge, during the 2022 cycle no official complaints were made that would have triggered investigation under the contract."

Rule 27 of the Oregon State Legislature says, "Members of the Legislative Assembly ... are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is free of harassment and to discourage all harassment in the workplace and at professional meetings, seminars, or at any event at which the Legislative business is conducted."

Multiple state laws on the books in Oregon deal with state legislators being required to report allegations of sexual assault, specifically related to children and minors, and legislators are commonly understood to be mandatory reporters of such allegations.

Bynum drew criticism in 2019 from sexual assault survivors for voting against a bill that would have given more time for victims to sue by expanding the statute of limitations for rape.

"It's not popular to protect the accused, but it is our job," Bynum said at the time.

A spokesperson for the Oregon State Police confirmed they have "received an initial complaint" regarding the July complaint against Bynum but would not comment "in regards to the status or scope of an investigation" or on where the complaint they received originated.

"Janelle is the only person in this race who has been a consistent champion for the underserved and underrepresented, and she’ll do what’s best for Oregonians in the halls of Congress," DCCC spokesperson Dan Gottlieb told Fox News Digital. "Lori Chavez-DeRemer has no business lecturing anyone about standing up for victims and survivors."

Congressional Black Caucus PAC Senior Advisor Chris Taylor told Fox News Digital that Bynum is not to blame for the complaint.

"Future PAC and Oregon Speaker of the House Julie Fahey ought to take responsibility for the alleged HR failures in their organization – We won’t tolerate politically convenient blame shifting on the only Black woman in the State House," Taylor said. "As a mother, small business owner and dedicated public servant, Janelle has a track record of delivering for Oregon and we know she'll do even more good for Oregonians when she gets to Congress."

A spokesperson for EMILY's List told Fox News Digital that Bynum "is a mother and a state representative who has been a steadfast advocate for Oregonians throughout her entire career."

"Throughout this election, Republicans have shamefully tried to smear Bynum’s record and this is just their latest attempt to distract from the extremist agenda Lori Chavez-DeRemer and her MAGA allies are pushing. We are proud to stand by Bynum and we are confident she will continue to stand up for Oregonians against Republican extremism."

A source familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that Bynum "would have received annual training on her duties as a mandatory reporter" making her certain of her "obligation to report this to law enforcement" and not to FuturePac."

"Her dereliction of duty is not on Fahey or anyone else."

Bynum is running against Republican Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer in a race that some experts believe could tip the balance of power in the House.
