Bill Belichick's girlfriend shuts down relationship question: 'We're not talking about this'
North Carolina Tar Heels football coach Bill Belichick touched ever so slightly on his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson in an interview released Sunday.
But Hudson shut down one question from Tony Dokoupil during the "CBS Mornings" interview. He described Hudson as a "constant presence" during the interview. Dokoupil asked the legendary former New England Patriots head coach how the two had met.

"We’re not talking about this," Hudson said as she sat off to the side.
Dokoupil asked Belichick how he dealt with the comments and attention about his relationship.
"Never been too worried about what everybody else thinks. Just try to do what I feel like what’s best for me and what’s right," the 73-year-old coach said.
Belichick described Hudson as his "creative muse" in his book. She’s also maintained a presence within the Tar Heels football program as Belichick has asked for her to be copied on emails.
The couple were first linked romantically last year but first met on a flight headed to Boston in 2021, when they seemingly hit it off. According to Page Six, Belichick, 73, and Hudson, 24, have reportedly "discussed marriage."
JORDON HUDSON PLAYFULLY TEASES BILL BELICHICK ABOUT ATTIRE WHILE AT NHL PLAYOFF GAME
The age gap between Hudson and Belichick recently became a topic of conversation when emails obtained by The Athletic showed that Belichick had emailed UNC officials showing his concern about potentially being called a "predator" online.
"Is there anyone monitoring the UNC Football page for slanderous commentary and subsequently deleting it / blocking users that are harassing BB in the comments?" Hudson reportedly asked on Feb. 13.
Belichick reportedly followed up the next day: "I cannot believe that UNC would support my being called a ‘predator.'"
Robbi Pickeral Evans, UNC senior associate athletic director for external affairs and strategic communications, replied that the social media team hides or erases comments about personal life and would "never" support those actions.

NY Times therapist tackles whether family should keep toddler away from Trump-supporting grandparents
A New York Times "Ask the Therapist" piece tackled whether a liberal family should keep their two-year-old son away from his Trump-supporting grandparents.
"My husband and I are raising our wonderful 2-year-old son," the person seeking advice asked. "He isn’t close with his family, while I have a somewhat closer relationship with mine, particularly my dad and stepmom. However, they are Trump voters, and my husband doesn’t want our son spending time with them because they endorse values we do not share."
The piece, headlined "I Hate My Parents’ Politics. Should I Keep My Son Away?" was published Thursday and included the reader's question and a response written by Lori Gottlieb, a psychotherapist.
"We are liberal, and our occupations are currently being negatively impacted by Trump administration changes, which has only heightened my husband’s concerns. While I don’t entirely disagree with his perspective, it’s still important to me that our son has the opportunity to know his grandparents. I’ve made it clear to my husband that he’s welcome to sit out visits if he prefers, but he remains uncomfortable with this arrangement," the parent asking Gottlieb for advice continued.
Gottlieb said that exposing a child to different viewpoints could be valuable.
"That’s why it’s not just OK for your son to be around people with different worldviews — it can be valuable," she said.
"Moreover, by barring your son — or excluding himself — from visits with the grandparents, your husband would be modeling values that I’m guessing he wouldn’t ordinarily endorse or want to pass along to your child, such as seeing others in a very narrowly defined way," Gottlieb continued.
Gottlieb said the husband should consider what their son might think when he's older about being cut off from his grandparents.
"Keeping your son from his grandparents neither protects nor connects, but giving him access does both. You can, of course, attempt to set some ground rules. If visits veer into ideological territory that makes time together tense, you can say to your father and stepmother something like: ‘We so enjoy being with you and watching you spend time with your grandson. Because we don’t agree on politics and want these visits to be pleasant, we’d like to avoid sharing political opinions when we’re together,’" Gottlieb continued.

A similar New York Times Ethicist column responded to a reader's question about how Democratic voters should deal with close relatives who supported Trump in November.
The Times author encouraged the person who was troubled by their mother being a Trump supporter to remember that people are much more than "the sum of their political views."
Another Times Ethicist piece from October responded to a reader's question about whether it was appropriate to leave the country if the "wrong" candidate became president.

Trump’s goodwill tested as Putin ignores peace efforts during Witkoff's visit
President Donald Trump’s patience is being tested by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched a barrage of airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv, killing 12 people and injuring nearly 100 more this week, one day ahead of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s fourth visit to Moscow.
Trump told reporters Friday he believes it is "possible" and even "very probable" his administration will negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
"I think, in the end, we're going to end up with a lot of good deals, including tariff deals and trade deals. We're going to make our country rich," Trump said ahead of his departure for Rome. "We're going to try and get out of war so that we can save 5,000 people a week. That's what my aim is."
TRUMP'S 'STOP' MESSAGE TO PUTIN ECHOES BIDEN'S 'DON'T' FROM 2022
Trump repeated that he has no deadline for a deal, only that one must be ironed out "as fast as possible."
He made his comments one week after the U.S. threatened to abandon talks if Russia and Ukraine didn’t soon reach a deal and one day after Trump issued a direct message to Putin on social media to "stop" bombing Ukraine.
"I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the peace deal DONE," he wrote.
Trump also conceded that his repeated claims from the campaign trail that he would have the war in Ukraine stopped within 24 hours of taking office were not based on realistic goals but were "figurative."
"I said that as an exaggeration," he told reporters, again blaming the war on his predecessor, President Biden.
But it appears Trump’s verbal warnings to Putin have fallen on deaf ears, similar to the results of Biden’s verbal warnings. Trump has repeatedly accused Biden of being partly at fault for the war, though he has not explained why.
Former Moscow CIA Station Chief Dan Hoffman said he and other security experts repeatedly warned that, under the Biden administration, Ukraine was not sufficiently armed to adequately take on Russia.
"After failing to deter Putin's invasion, the Biden administration just kept Ukraine in the fight but didn't give Ukraine a chance to punch back fast enough or hard enough," he said.
"There are three options," Hoffman added, explaining how the U.S. can use its position as leverage over Moscow. "One, entice Russia. That's what Trump is trying to do with trade deals and eliminating sanctions. And Putin has kind of plowed through that by rejecting confidence-building ceasefire deals.
TRUMP INSISTS UKRAINE-RUSSIA PEACE DEAL IS CLOSE, BUT MISTRUST IN PUTIN LEAVES EXPERTS SKEPTICAL
"The second option is to make Putin pay on the battlefield so that he feels so much pain he has to stop the invasion," he added. "We convince Putin that we're going to rearm Ukraine by saying, 'We've offered you a great deal. You don't want the deal, we're going to arm the Ukrainians.
"The third option is to just walk away and let Europe fend for themselves and support Ukraine as much as they can. We would run the risk that Russia would take more territory from Ukraine. That would be a victory for Russia and its allies – China, North Korea and Iran.
"Let them do it, and then you'll pay the price everywhere else in the world," Hoffman warned, referring to China's threats against Taiwan. "Americans don't like to fight wars. OK, we don't like to lose wars either."
NATO CHIEF SENDS MESSAGE TO RUSSIA: YOU 'ARE NOT WINNING THIS’
An official with knowledge of the talks told Fox News Digital Friday that "Ambassador Witkoff is in Russia to meet with President Putin as part of President Trump's efforts to make peace.
"It's long past time for the death and destruction to stop, to move past the failed strategies of the past and for an end to this devastating conflict," the official added without commenting on the "substance of negotiations."
A report by Axios this week suggested the White House had extended a "final offer" to Ukraine and Russia that called on Kyiv to recognize Russia's occupation of nearly all the Luhansk region and the occupied areas of the Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
It also said the U.S. would agree to recognize Crimea, which Putin illegally seized from Ukraine in 2014, as now legally a part of Russia, and that Washington would lift sanctions.
Neither the White House nor the National Security Council responded to Fox News Digital’s repeated questions about whether there will be consequences for Putin should he fail to enter into an agreement with Ukraine.
The administration also did not comment on why it believes Putin wants to enter into an agreement with the U.S. when security officials have repeatedly warned otherwise.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already said he will not acknowledge Crimea as a part of Russia but rather as Ukrainian land illegally occupied by Russia.
Zelenskyy also on Thursday posted a 2018 "Crimea declaration" by Trump's first-term Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, which said, "No country can change the borders of another by force" in a move to signify Trump’s apparent position change that now favors Russia.

'Brady Bunch' star Susan Olsen 'almost died' during filming of first episode
Susan Olsen revealed she "almost died" while filming the first episode of "The Brady Bunch" as Cindy Brady.
Olsen was joined by three of her co-stars — Mike Lookinland, Christopher Knight and Barry Williams — for a re-watch of "The Honeymoon." They discussed the first day of filming the iconic pilot episode that aired in 1969.
"On the Culver lot, they were shooting something — I would assume, in the girl's bedroom — and I was getting body makeup on my legs," Olsen said during a podcast episode of "The Real Brady Bros." "I was standing on a makeup chair and something from the catwalk, where they keep all the lights and everything, fell."
"It hit the makeup man first, [bounced] off the body makeup woman, and hit me in the face."
‘BRADY BUNCH’ ACTOR ADMITS ROMANCE WITH CO-STAR WAS ‘ON-AGAIN, OFF-AGAIN’ FOR YEARS
"You can tell, if you look at the [wedding] ceremony, and you see the three girls on one side, if you were to zoom in really tight, you can see my face is quite swollen," Olsen explained. "I look different. You can even see it in some of the early publicity shots. You can tell my face is a little swollen."
Florence Henderson, who starred as Carol Brady, was there to comfort Olsen and make sure everyone knew that the young actress had been injured. However, everyone else around insisted she was fine.
Olsen recalled thinking at the time, "I don't want to be brave. In fact, I don't just wanna cry, I want to sob. I'm just gonna let go and forget all my pride and just sob because this hurts."
She ended up putting on a brave face and held back her tears.

Olsen's mom took her to the doctor, but the family chose not to take legal action.
"The saddest news is that we didn't sue Paramount, because I would have made more off of that than the show," Olsen joked. "But I came to work the next day. Florence was the first one to see me. She's like, 'You make sure everybody sees her.' And my mom was like, 'Oh, yes, I will.' Because everybody was trying to say, 'It didn't really hit her. She's fine.'"
"My eyes were black. I mean, I had two black eyes. My nose was swollen. My face was swollen," she said. "I remember loving it, because I looked like I was in a horror film. And then everybody knew, yes, I had gotten hurt, and I had gotten hurt very badly."
Paramount brought out Hal King, the makeup artist who did Lucille Ball's makeup, to cover up her bruises. King also worked with Henderson for the entirety of filming for "The Brady Bunch."
The cover-up of Olsen's injury must have worked great because her male co-stars didn't even notice. "Didn't know anything about that," Knight said during the podcast.

Video captures New York grandmother, children narrowly avoiding manhole explosion
A New York woman and two young children were seen narrowly avoiding a manhole explosion in a dramatic incident captured on video.
Lisa Davis just missed the blast on Saturday in Poughkeepsie as she and her two grandchildren were walking on a sidewalk after an Easter egg hunt, according to ABC News.
"I was like, 'Oh my God, I don't know.' I didn't know where to go," she told the station. "I didn't know what to do except grab my grandson and run."
Footage shows a woman walking over the manhole cover while pushing a stroller alongside a young child. Seconds later, the cover explodes, sending concrete into the air.

The Poughkeepsie Fire Department said, "A manhole halfway down the block as well as another on the corner of Academy and Church Streets had also exploded very narrowly missing three pedestrians."
"Companies found high levels of carbon monoxide in multiple buildings and the occupants of all the buildings on that block were evacuated until the gas levels could be mitigated," it also said.

A spokesperson for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. later told Mid Hudson News that the explosion "was the result of an electrical fault on an underground cable and is not related to our natural gas distribution system."
"While manhole events stemming from electrical faults are not uncommon, they can still pose risks of damage or injury. Fortunately, we’ve been informed that no one was hurt in this instance," the spokesperson also said.

Police take down stabbing, arson suspect at Maryland's National Harbor
An officer-involved shooting took place on Easter Sunday in National Harbor, Maryland.
Police say around 8:20 a.m. officers responded to a stabbing call, where a man and a woman were found with "critical stab wounds."
"Before fleeing that scene, the suspect also set fire to the apartment," Prince George’s County Police Department Chief Malik Aziz said during a media conference. "Officers learned the stabbing was domestic-related, and the suspect was known to the victims."
Less than two hours later, "Officers responded to the National Harbor where they encountered the suspect in that earlier stabbing at St. George Blvd and Potomac Passage. The suspect was still armed with a knife and moved towards an officer."
Two officers discharged their duty weapons, Aziz said. The suspect was struck an unknown number of times. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
No officers were injured in the incident.

Rangers fire head coach Peter Laviolette after lackluster season
After a disappointing season, the New York Rangers announced on Saturday that they had made the decision to part ways with head coach Peter Laviolette after just two seasons. Associate head coach Phil Housley was also relieved of his duties, according to the team.
The Rangers were 39-36-7 this season and missed the playoffs a year after they won the President’s Trophy and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.
CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM
Laviolette, 60, had a 94-59-11 record in his two seasons at the helm in New York. The Rangers had their best regular season in franchise history with him in the 2023-2024 season, when they had a team-record of 114 points and 55 wins.
"Today I informed Peter Laviolette and Phil Housley that we’re making a coaching change," Rangers general manager Chris Drury said in a statement. "I want to thank them both and wish them and their families all the best going forward. Peter is first class all the way, both professionally and personally, and I am truly grateful for his passion and dedication to the Rangers in his time as head coach."
"After finishing with the best regular season record in the NHL a year ago and making a trip to the Eastern Conference Final, we came into this season with high expectations for ourselves. Quite simply, we failed to meet those expectations. We must all do better – myself included."
SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NHL STAR ARTEMI PANARIN REVEALED AFTER SETTLEMENT: REPORT
"As we head into next season and beyond, I felt that a change was necessary in order to give us the best chance to achieve our goals as an organization. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately."
The Rangers were the sixth team Laviolette has been a head coach for throughout his career. He coached the Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and New York Islanders prior to joining the Rangers.
Coming into the season, the Rangers had high expectations after they fell short in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Florida Panthers last season. But the Rangers were marred by inconsistent play and underperformance from many of their top players.
Forward Mika Zibanejad scored 20 goals and had 62 points this season after he had 26 goals and 72 points last season. Chris Kreider had 39 goals and 76 points last season and this season had just 22 goals and 30 points.
Zibanejad and Kreider were just two of the many Rangers stars who took a step back this season in production.
Laviolette's and Housley’s departures are likely the first of many to come for the Rangers this offseason, as general manager Chris Drury will look to overhaul a roster that struggled throughout the year.

Smartphone use could reduce dementia risk in older adults, study finds
The first generation that has been exposed consistently to digital technology has reached the age where symptoms of dementia tend to emerge.
Some have claimed that digital technology could negatively impact cognitive abilities, but researchers from Baylor University have discovered just the opposite.
"You can flip on the news on just about any day and you’ll see people talking about how technologies are harming us," said study co-author Michael Scullin in a press release.
DEMENTIA RISK CONNECTED TO CANNABIS-RELATED HOSPITAL VISITS, SAYS STUDY
"People often use the terms ‘brain drain’ and ‘brain rot,’ and now ‘digital dementia’ is an emerging phrase. As researchers, we wanted to know if this was true," Scullin said.
The researchers analyzed past studies to determine the impact of technology on mental aging. Their findings, which were published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour, suggest that digital technologies can actually preserve cognitive abilities.
AMERICA'S SENIORS ARE VULNERABLE TO THESE DIGITAL THREATS, EXPERTS WARN
For the meta-review, researchers analyzed more than 136 studies that included 400,000 adults, with an average of six years of follow-up data.
The team concluded that the use of digital technology correlates with a 58% lower risk of cognitive impairment, even after adjusting for gender, age and education level.
One contributing factor, according to Scullin, could be the cognitive challenges that older adults face when interacting with technology.
"One of the first things that middle-aged and older adults were saying is that ‘I’m so frustrated by this computer. This is hard to learn,'" he said in the release.
"That's actually a reflection of the cognitive challenge, which may be beneficial for the brain even if it doesn’t feel great in the moment."
ALCOHOL LINKED TO BRAIN DAMAGE FOR HEAVY DRINKERS, STUDY FINDS
Technology can be cognitively challenging because it is always changing, forcing users to learn and adapt, the researchers noted. This "exercises" the brain and helps keep it sharp.
Dementia diagnoses often involve loss of ability to independently perform daily tasks, such as taking pills, keeping track of appointments and navigating directions, per the Alzheimer’s Research UK website.
Digital tools like web calendars, phone reminders and navigation apps can allow for greater independence in older adults.
CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER
The study found that "digital scaffolding" – the process of using these tools to perform daily tasks – "facilitates better functional outcomes in older adults while general cognitive functioning declines."
One highly debated aspect of digital technology’s effect on our brains is the use of social media, but according to the researchers, it’s not all bad.
Another benefit of digital technology, according to experts, is the ability for aging adults to maintain social connections, which has been linked to a decreased dementia risk.
"Now you can connect with families across generations," Scullin said.

AOC claims Republicans will 'trick' Americans into identity politics, stoking racial divisions
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told rally attendees not to let Republicans "trick" them into thinking they "can be separated" by race or into stoking "deep divisions along race, identity and culture," despite President Donald Trump's recent efforts to rid identity politics from public and private spaces.
The progressive "Squad" lawmaker's comments came at a "Fighting Oligarchy" rally Monday night in Idaho alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. It was the pair's latest stop in a tour of appearances across the country.
"The only chance they have to get away with such an unpopular and hurtful agenda is to stoke deep divisions along race, identity and culture to keep us fighting and distracted. It's not going to work anymore," AOC told rally goers. "Don't let them trick us into thinking we are enemies. Don't let them trick us into being weak and being into thinking we can be separated into rural and urban, black and white and Latino."
The rally with AOC and Sanders was largely centered around criticizing "billionaire" oligarchs like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and President Donald Trump, who, as president, has been leading an anti-DEI push that is aimed at ridding identity politics from public and private spaces.
In fact, per political analyst and regular MSNBC contributor Eddie Glaude, identity politics was "at the heart" of former Vice President Kamala Harris' election loss to Trump.
"The only thing that was woke or representational about [Kamala Harris'] campaign was her, her body, the fact that she was a woman of color. So I think that the concern, the so-called backlash, to tending to the diversity of the nation actually proves the point," Glaude said in an interview with NPR shortly after Republican's November election victories.
BERNIE SANDERS SAYS LARGEST ‘FIGHTING OLIGARCHY’ RALLY WITH AOC IS MAKING TRUMP, MUSK ‘VERY NERVOUS’
Meanwhile, since being inaugurated, Trump has implemented executive actions explicitly targeting "identity politics."
"Prior to harmful changes introduced by the Obama and Biden administrations, the United States military offered equality of opportunity to every American capable of and interested in serving their country. Yet these two administrations exploited the military in favor of identity politics—harming our national defense, undermining the non-political nature of our military, and eroding morale and recruitment," Trump wrote in one of his first Executive Orders after being sworn in. "Due to this ‘woke’ assault, the Services together logged their lowest recruiting records since 1940 with a 41,000-troop shortfall in 2023."
Trump has also taken steps to rid DEI from universities, the federal government and even the private sector.

According to Trump, it was Democrat President Joe Biden who implemented "illegal and immoral discrimination programs," which often tied individual success to immutable factors like race, sex and ethnicity.
"President Trump is restoring fairness and accountability in federal hiring, and terminating DEI across the federal government," reads a March fact sheet from the White House.

Trump says Iran must ditch ‘concept of a nuclear weapon’ ahead of more talks
President Donald Trump on Monday once again reiterated that Iran must abandon any hope of obtaining a nuclear weapon as the U.S. prepares for more talks in less than a week.
"Iran has to get rid of the concept of a nuclear weapon. They cannot have a nuclear weapon," Trump told reporters from the Oval Office while sitting alongside the president of El Salvador.
"Iran wants to deal with us, but they don't know how. They really don't know how," Trump continued.
TRUMP TEAM HOLDS 'CONSTRUCTIVE' FACE-TO-FACE NUCLEAR TALKS WITH IRAN, WILL MEET AGAIN NEXT WEEKEND
The president confirmed the U.S. will hold more talks with Iran next Saturday in Italy, one week after the first talks began in Oman.
Details of the discussion remain nil, though they were seen as a launching point as Washington tries to negotiate with Tehran to end its nuclear program.
Iranian state media reported that Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi "briefly spoke" together during the two-hour meeting, which suggests Tehran viewed the discussions positively given their initial refusal to hold "direct" talks.
The White House similarly described the talks as "very positive and constructive," though it also conceded that "very complicated" issues remain unresolved.
TRUMP DEMANDS DO-OR-DIE NUCLEAR TALKS WITH IRAN. WHO HAS THE LEVERAGE?
Trump has said negotiations with Iran need to happen "very quickly" but he has not provided a specific timeline on how long he will allow the diplomatic process to be carried out before he turns to military options.
The president has repeatedly threatened to "bomb" Iran should it not stop its ambitions to develop a nuclear weapon.
But the extent that the U.S. intends to shut down Tehran’s nuclear program also remains unclear as some call for complete disarmament as Iran also continues to advance its missile programs.
"I'll solve that problem. It's almost an easy one," Trump told reporters while comparing the end of Iran’s decades-long ambitions to develop a nuclear weapon to the challenge of ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
"I think Iran could be a great country as long as it doesn't have nuclear weapons," Trump said. "If they have nuclear weapons, they'll never get a chance to be a great country."

SCOOP: Arizona to begin removing as many as 50K noncitizens from voter rolls following lawsuit
EXCLUSIVE: All 15 Arizona counties have now begun the process of verifying and removing noncitizens from their voter rolls, including nearly 50,000 registrants who did not provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
"This settlement is a great result for all Arizonans," America First Legal (AFL) senior counsel James Rogers told Fox News Digital after his organization’s successful lawsuit spearheaded the process in Arizona.
AFL filed the lawsuit against the 15 Arizona counties last year on behalf of EZAZ.org, and Yvonne Cahill, a registered voter and naturalized citizen, arguing that the counties had not been following a state law that requires proof of citizenship to vote in local and state elections and for the state to do monthly checks of the rolls for noncitizens.
THOUSANDS LEAVE COUNTRY VOLUNTARILY AMID TRUMP SELF-DEPORT PUSH, DHS SAYS
As a result of the lawsuit, the 15 counties have now begun working with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to verify the citizenship status of all registered voters in the state who failed to provide proof of citizenship.
While a 2013 Supreme Court ruling prohibits states from imposing voter registration requirements beyond the federal requirement that registrants must check a box affirming their U.S. citizenship, Arizona residents are still required to provide proof of citizenship to vote in state and local elections.
The Arizona law also requires that county recorders perform a monthly list maintenance to confirm the U.S. citizenship of so-called "federal-only voters," a list of nearly 50,000 individuals who failed to provide proof of U.S. citizenship and were not allowed to vote in state or local elections.
TRUMP ADMIN UNVEILS PLAN COSTING MIGRANTS MASSIVE FINE FOR EVERY DAY THEY DON'T SELF-DEPORT
Registrants confirmed to be citizens are then moved to the regular list while those found to be noncitizens are required to have their registration canceled.
But AFL argued in the lawsuit that county recorders had not been utilizing the resources available to them to help verify citizenship status, something the Arizona law requires them to do. As a result, all 15 counties have now sent requests to DHS in order to assist their efforts to clear the voter rolls of noncitizens.
"This will help County Recorders find and remove any aliens on their voter rolls," Rogers said. "It will also potentially enfranchise federal-only voters whose citizenship is confirmed, which would allow them to vote in state and local elections. AFL congratulates each of Arizona’s 15 county recorders for taking this bold and important step for election integrity in the state."

Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava under scrutiny over NIL, practice drama
Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava did not show up to spring practice on Friday, reportedly due to NIL contract discussions.
Iamaleava’s no-show at practice came as a "surprise" to Tennessee, according to ESPN.
Iamaleava, 20, is reportedly set to earn $2.4 million this season but wants to renegotiate his deal to $4 million per year.

The quarterback was the No. 23 overall recruit in the 2023 class and when he initially signed with Tennessee’s NIL collective in 2022, Iamaleava was set to make $8 million over his college career.
Tennessee and Iamaleava’s camp were in negotiations for a new contract that would give him a pay raise on Thursday, according to On3. The spring transfer window closes on April 25, and it is unknown whether these negotiations could cause the quarterback to depart.
Iamaleava redshirted his 2023 season and became the team’s starting quarterback going into last season after Joe Milton departed for the NFL.
NCAA POWER FOUR COMMISSIONERS SAY THEY 'NEED HELP FROM CONGRESS' TO REGULATE NIL, TRANSFER PORTAL
As a freshman, the six-foot-six quarterback led Tennessee to a 10-3 record, with 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Upon hearing the news of Iamaleava’s no-show from practice, fans took to social media to voice their opinions.
"Can someone explain to me why you would pay Nico Iamaleava $4M when he is going to be a 21-yr-old sophomore who only did this on a loaded offense? I wouldn’t even pay this man $2M. Can’t even throw a deep ball either. Why are we paying players who don’t produce?" One X user posted.
"Nico Iamaleava is a solid QB. But he's not close to $4Mill good. Whoever advising is doing him a disservice," another user posted to X.

First lady Melania Trump opens White House gardens to all Americans
A time-honored White House tradition has taken place again this April as first lady Melania Trump invited Americans to the White House grounds to view the beautiful gardens in early bloom. Sunday's skies were mostly cloudy with highs near 60F and the sun was peeking through — so the threat of spring showers kept no one away.
Americans lined up early in the morning to view the Trump White House gardens across the South Lawn.
Previously scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, the tours were rescheduled to Sunday due to "an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all within proximity to public demonstrations planned near the White House," according to a press release.
FIRST LADY MELANIA TRUMP ANNOUNCES REOPENING OF PUBLIC WHITE HOUSE TOURS
On the tour, visitors can view the flower garden, The Rose Garden, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the Kitchen and Cutting Garden, and the Children’s Garden.
The White House grounds comprise the oldest continually maintained landscape in the U.S.
Currently, there are 33 commemorative plantings.
"Since the 1870s, most presidents have planted a commemorative tree while they were in office," the National Park Service says. "The White House Gardens are constantly changing with the seasons and administrations."
Nicholas Clemens, director of communications at The Office of the First Lady, told Fox News Digital, "We are proud to continue the longstanding tradition of Spring Garden Tours by inviting the public to enjoy the beauty and history of the White House grounds."
"It’s a special opportunity for visitors of all ages to experience the gardens that have been cared for by dedicated staff and enjoyed by generations of first families," he added.
Placed around the grounds are photos of first lady Melania Trump and President Donald Trump along with photos of previous first families in the gardens.
The tour on Sunday also offered the last chance for the public to view the Southern magnolia tree said to have been planted by President Andrew Jackson.
The nation's seventh president served from 1829 to 1837.

President Trump recently said that the tree is in "terrible condition" and needs to be removed due to the safety hazards it presents.
The Jackson tree was seen propped up with wires on Sunday to ensure the safety of both the building and the visitors.
During the tour, crowds swarmed "The Beast," snapping photos of the well-known presidential limousine.
The White House partners with the Trust for the National Mall in raising private donations and recruiting volunteers for the tour.
Julie Moore, spokesperson for the Trust for the National Mall, told Fox News Digital that they're honored by the partnership and "help care for the iconic White House Gardens all year long."

"This is a wonderful event that invites visitors to enjoy the beauty and history of the White House gardens," she said, "and to enjoy the work we do to preserve them for the next generation."
See more pictures of the White House Spring Garden Tours from Fox News Digital, below.
The garden tour is separate from the White House tour.
The south grounds of the White House will open again to the public for another weekend in the fall, as per usual arrangements.

FBI Director Kash Patel celebrates Alex Ovechkin's historic night alongside Wayne Gretzky: 'Huge props'
FBI Director Kash Patel sat alongside the great Wayne Gretzky at Capital One Arena on Friday night where the pair, joined by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, witnessed a historic night in hockey history.
Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored the 894th goal of his career in a 5-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks to tie Gretzky’s record. The goal came in the first few minutes of the third period on a Capitals’ power play.
Teammates poured onto the ice to surround Ovechkin.

In the stands, Patel and Gretzky celebrated.
"Congrats to The Great One Wayne Gretzky and huge props to #8 @ovi8," Patel said in a post on X. He shared a photo inside the locker room shaking Ovechkin’s hand. "The greatest game on earth, honored to be with them on this record tying night… 894 goals #Legends @NHL."
Ovechkin is one goal away from passing Gretzky – an opportunity he had Friday night, but refused to take.
ALEX OVECHKIN TIES WAYNE GRETZKY'S ALL-TIME NHL GOAL RECORD
"He wants to break the record with a goaltender in the crease, which I appreciate," head coach Spencer Carbery said. "He told me that on the bench, and I just wanted to confirm that he didn’t want to go out. And it’s hard for us as coaches, because I just wanted to make sure in that moment: hat trick, at home. And he didn’t want to go out and score on an empty net to break the record."
He added, "We have six games left, and he wants to break the record and have that moment where he’s shooting the puck past a goalie."
Ovechkin’s next opportunity will come Sunday against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.

Women may hear better than men, new study suggests
The old adage is that moms have eyes in the back of their heads, but a new study shows that women in general may also have more sensitive hearing.
The study, recently published in the journal Scientific Reports, sought to examine the correlation between multiple factors — including gender, age and region, among others — and hearing sensitivity.
Patricia Balaresque, Ph.D., at the Centre for Biodiversity and Environmental Research in Toulouse, France, led a team of scientists to conduct hearing tests on 448 individuals from 13 global communities in Ecuador, England, Gabon, South Africa and Uzbekistan.
CRUNCHES BY AGE: HERE'S HOW MANY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO
The results show that hearing sensitivity is primarily influenced by gender and environment, followed by age and left versus right ear.
"Our findings challenge existing assumptions and highlight the need to consider both biological and environmental factors when studying hearing," Balaresque said in a press release.
Scientists measured hearing sensitivity using transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE), which assess the cochlea’s ability to produce and transmit an acoustic response after sound stimulation.
ARE FULL-BODY SCANS WORTH THE MONEY? DOCTORS SHARE WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The cochlea is a fluid-filled, spiral-shaped cavity in the inner ear that converts sound waves into electrical impulses that the brain can interpret, medical sources state.
By analyzing TEOAE profiles, researchers gained valuable insights into how the cochlea responds to external auditory stimuli.
To calculate hearing sensitivity, a small device played a clicking sound into the ear of test subjects and then recorded the tiny sounds the inner ear sent back in response, the study findings detailed.
These returning signals, which are created by cells in the cochlea, provide a reliable indication of how sensitive the ear is to sound.
MEN FACE HIGHER CANCER RISK WITH THIS SPECIFIC BODY FAT MEASUREMENT
The researchers then examined the signals, including how strong they were (measured in decibels, a unit used to convey the relative intensity or loudness of a sound) and which frequencies the ear responded to most strongly.
They also compared variations based on a variety of factors, including subjects' sex, age, ear being tested, and the type of environment they lived in.
Throughout the testing, women consistently showed a higher sensitivity, by an average of two decibels across all populations sampled.
"We were surprised to find that women had two decibels more sensitive hearing across all the populations we measured, and this accounted for most of the variations between individuals," said study co-author Turi King, professor and director of the Milner Centre for Evolution at the University of Bath, in the release.
CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER
"This could be due to different exposure to hormones during development in the womb, due to men and women having slight structural differences in cochlear anatomy."
Women also perform better in other hearing tests and speech perception, which indicates that their brains are better at processing information, according to King.
"We don’t really know why this might be, but given the detrimental effect of noise on overall health, such as sleep quality and increased cardiovascular disease, having more sensitive hearing in noisy environments may not always be a good thing," she added.
While differences in age were also a factor in hearing sensitivity (with old age linked to worse hearing), it was less pronounced than the differences between sexes.
Other findings in the study included the way ecological environments can impact hearing sensitivity.
For those in urban environments, hearing profiles shifted to higher frequencies, which could be due to the constant low hum of traffic and city noises in urban environments, scientists hypothesized.
For more Health articles, visit www.foxnews.com/health
The greatest contrast was found between groups living in high-altitude populations versus tropical environments, with the latter having a higher sensitivity to hearing.
This could be a result of living in areas with fewer humans in the environment, or an inherited trait from the sort of wild environment where vigilance is essential for survival, the researchers noted.
Professor King added, "We know that humans are continuing to evolve, so the next question is whether our hearing is able to change in response to different environments generally or whether there are genetic adaptations involved."

Sean 'Diddy' Combs hit with new sex trafficking charges a month before trial
Federal prosecutors have added two charges to Sean "Diddy" Combs' indictment, expanding on allegations that the jailed hip-hop mogul engaged in sex trafficking as recently as last year.
A superseding indictment filed Friday accuses Combs of using force, fraud, or coercion to compel a woman to engage in commercial sex acts from at least 2021 to 2024.
The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Manhattan, also alleges Combs was involved in transporting the woman — identified only as Victim-2 — and other people, including commercial sex workers, to engage in prostitution during the same timeframe.
The new charges are in addition to racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges filed against Combs when he was arrested in September. They increased the total number of charges against him from three to five.
Combs, 55, is scheduled to stand trial May 5. He remains locked up in a federal jail in Brooklyn. A message seeking comment on the new charges was left with his representatives.
Friday’s superseding indictment is the second filed against Combs.
In the first, in January, federal prosecutors disclosed that their case involved at least three women whom they said Combs forced to engage in commercial sex acts. They also alleged Combs showed a firearm to a female victim during a kidnapping and once dangled a woman over an apartment balcony.
Combs' January indictment didn't include additional charges but modified some details of the existing ones, including adding four years to the alleged racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors now say it started in 2004, not 2008 as the original indictment had alleged.
Combs denies committing any crimes and has pleaded not guilty to the first set of charges, which allege that he coerced and abused women for years with help from a network of associates and employees while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings.
His arraignment on the new charges has not been scheduled. Prosecutors asked Friday that it be held at his final pretrial conference on April 25.
Federal prosecutors allege the "I’ll Be Missing You" singer and Bad Boy Records founder used his "power and prestige" as a music star to induce female victims into drugged-up, elaborately produced sexual performances with male sex workers in events dubbed "Freak Offs."
DIDDY ACCUSER CLAIMS BEYONCÉ, JAY-Z WERE WITNESSES AT MIAMI 'FREAK-OFF' PARTY: LAWSUIT
Central to the case is a March 2016 video showing Combs hitting and kicking his then-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie, in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Prosecutors contend the assault happened during a "Freak Off." Combs' lawyers argue the footage was nothing more than a "glimpse into a complex but decade-long consensual relationship" between the two.
Combs' lawyers contend the case should never have been brought and are fighting to dismiss a charge involving allegations he transported a male escort across state lines.
"The government has concocted a criminal case based primarily on allegations that Mr. Combs and two of his longtime girlfriends sometimes brought a third party — a male escort — into their sexual relationship," Combs' lawyer, Alexandra A.E. Shapiro, wrote in a February court filing.
"Each of the three charges in the case are premised on the theory that this type of sexual activity is a federal crime," Shapiro added.

Father of Marine vet murdered in Mexico praises Trump admin sanctions on Sinaloa cartel: 'Palpable' momentum
The father of a 31-year-old Marine veteran from Arizona who was murdered at an illegal checkpoint while driving to the beach in Mexico in 2024 said he did not expect Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to reference his son’s name when announcing new sanctions against the Sinaloa cartel this week.
Doug Quets, a U.S. military veteran himself, whose son, Nicholas Quets, served for four years in the Marines, said he was "really humbled and pleasantly surprised" that Bessent remembered him, as well as another American, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. Camarena was abducted, tortured and killed in 1985.
Bessent named both men in a video statement released Monday – what would have been Nicholas Quets’ 32nd birthday – that announced Treasury Department sanctions against six individuals and seven entities allegedly involved in a money-laundering network supporting the Sinaloa cartel.
"I had full faith in President Trump… I knew we weren’t forgotten, but when the secretary mentioned my son’s name, no, I was not. I was not expecting that," Doug Quets told Fox News Digital. "I have the faith in a lot of different levels of our government and in God that things could be done, because in fact, if you apply, if you pursue these problems and you confront these problems, they're basically bullies, right? And so if you let the bullies go, they become bolder and bolder. But if you confront them, you can defeat them. So the momentum against these groups is palpable right now. I mean, you can feel it, you know that that's occurring. And that's only because of the United States deciding to do something about it."
SINALOA CARTEL SLAPPED WITH TRUMP ADMIN SANCTIONS IN BLOW TO DRUG EMPIRE
Quets noted the contrast between the Trump administration's message and what he heard from officials on both sides of the border five and a half months ago. He said his grieving family was told repeatedly by officials in the wake of Nicholas' slaying in the Mexican state of Sonora that "we’re sorry, but there’s nothing that can be done."
"That, to me, is just infuriating because [as] somebody that's spent a lot of time providing security for others and promoting welfare, the knowledge that nothing can be done against bullies and criminals, that perspective is wrong. You just have to confront it," Quets told Fox News Digital. "We can win any fight. And we can win this fight. And knowing that President Trump is taking it very seriously, yeah, that gives me hope, gives my family hope that this will come to a good ending for so many people. It'll never come to good ending for me, the things we want back, you know, they're not coming back, but we can protect your family. We can protect other families."
Quets praised Trump for using "all instruments of U.S. national power" against the cartels and described receiving "overwhelming" support from the National Security Council, Justice Department and the FBI.
"It's moving, it never moves as fast as you want as a parent, but he has taken our case very seriously, and I'm super happy for that. And everything we discussed, he has moved out on and as fast, I'm convinced, as fast as he could," Quets said.
"The United States government's capable of doing anything it wants to do in this world if it makes it important enough. And it's just how important we want to make it," Quets said. "If you pull the right levers and you do the right things and you do them in the name of justice, in the name of security of American citizens, you're always doing the right thing."
About three weeks ago, Attorney General Pam Bondi said she had a "powerful and emotional phone call" with Judge Enrique Camarena, the son of murdered DEA Special Agent Camarena, following the extradition of his alleged killer, Rafael Caro Quintero. Quintero was among 29 defendants taken into U.S. custody in February to face prosecution in the United States for cartel-related crimes dating back to the 1980s.
FAMILY OF MARINE VETERAN MURDERED IN MEXICO BACKS TRUMP, VANCE AFTER SILENCE FROM BIDEN-HARRIS ADMIN
Quets declined to reveal updates about his son’s case amid the active investigation but welcomed those extraditions as a sign of the growing momentum from U.S. agencies in confronting this "evil."
"I am pleased. I'm not surprised because I did know it could be done. And I did feel like it would be done under President Trump, but I'm pleased that these extraditions have started," Quets said.
Nicholas Quets, who was employed by Pima County, Arizona, in water reclamation and ran his own side business as a welder at the time of his death, was making a drive many Americans had made before down to the Mexican beach town of Rocky Point when he was murdered on Oct. 18, 2024, during the height of the election campaign, after evading an illegal checkpoint in Caborca, according to his father.
The family later learned the route had become more treacherous with rival cartels fighting over the area, and two elderly American women were killed at a similar checkpoint about a month beforehand, though that story received little news coverage at the time. Nicholas Quets was pursued by cartel members on an about seven-mile chase before they ran his pick-up truck into a cement median, and the alleged cartel members "shot him in the back as cowards," according to Doug Quets.
Just days after his son’s murder, Doug Quets said he met with vice presidential candidate and then-Sen. JD Vance, of Ohio, while he was campaigning in Arizona. Trump also met with the grieving father, who praised both Republicans for their humanity in speaking with him for about 15 minutes each while they were in the "fight of their lives" in the swing state.
Doug Quets said he was ignored by Democratic vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’ team when he made a campaign stop in the state. Trump later invited the Quets family to a rally in nearby Nevada, and Doug Quets said Trump unexpectedly introduced him to the crowd and invited him on stage to speak.
"There was no script, there was nothing else. President Trump just put all his blind faith in me to just tell the truth," Quets said. "Nick was an innocent U.S. citizen driving to the beach and was executed by cowards in the back."
"You have to accept the fact that, you know, there is good and there is bad and there is evil in the world. And my son, through no fault of his own, confronted evil. And that evil, you know, is now being held accountable and is going to be made to pay."

Paige Spiranac touts fitness transformation while firing back at critic
Golf influencer Paige Spiranac showed off her workout gains in a social media post Wednesday, an effort she said she’s worked hard at the last few years.
Spiranac posted two photos of herself, comparing what she looked like when she first started her professional career versus what she looks like now.
"I went from having my back connect to my thighs to this," Spiranac wrote on X. "It’s not the biggest peach now but I’ve been working harder than I ever have in the gym and also with my diet. Heck yeah I’m going to show it off!

"I’m proud of my body and how hard I’ve been working to achieve my fitness goals."
Spiranac’s post was a response to a critic upset with how she presented herself in one of her videos in which she showed off her golf bag. But the golfer has been known to clap back at rude comments.
She’s routinely fired back at comments about her golf attire and the way she’s dressed. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in September 2023, she explained why she wears what she does.
TIGER WOODS TROLLS MILLIONS OF SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLOWERS WITH EPIC APRIL FOOLS’ PRANK: ‘READY TO PLAY’
"I was a gymnast before I switched into golf," the former All-Mountain West Conference golfer said. "I was so comfortable wearing spandex and very little of it because that's just what you wear when you're wearing a leotard and you're competing.
"When I switched into golf, we were struggling a little bit financially and so I didn't have the luxury to go out and buy a whole new golf-appropriate wardrobe. And so, I wore what was in my closet which was workout clothes. That's just how I learned to play the game."
In July 2023, she called out the "hypocrisy" of comments in a video showing two half-naked baseball players on the mound. She noted that the players weren’t getting negative comments about what they were doing.
"Interesting how different the reaction is online when men choose to show off their bodies," she wrote on X at the time. "Not one comment on this video calling them attention whores or sluts. Just a ton of women saying baseball is now their favorite sport but those same women harshly judge me. The hypocrisy lol."
Spiranac has more than 4 million followers on Instagram and another 1.6 million on TikTok.

Tesla owner confronts Pennsylvania man accused of scratching swastika on SUV
An individual accused of defacing a Tesla with a swastika is facing charges and has reportedly apologized for the "misguided" behavior.
Video footage shows the Tesla owner confronting the vandal, according to reports. In the video, the man says he used a crayon, not a key, and apologizes.
"I have nothing against your car, and I have nothing against you," he said. "Obviously, I have something against Elon Musk."

The man described his behavior "misguided."
Reports indicate the suspect is Chadd Ritenbaugh.
"My client is a proud father, long-time resident, and is currently undergoing cancer treatment," Ritenbaugh's attorney Paul Lang said in a statement. "We will reserve further comment pending the outcome of the case."
In a post on bucks.crimewatchpa.com, the Central Bucks Regional Police Department indicated that after visiting the gym, the "Victim noticed fresh damage to their Tesla that appeared to be scratches in the shape of a swastika, when they arrived home."

The alleged vandalism was captured by the Tesla. The victim checked the recording and found someone scratching "into the side of the Tesla using an unknown object," the police department's post noted.
Gym staff identified the suspect with his membership, according to authorities.
"The video camera at 0924 hours on March 24, 2025, shows the suspect walking into Planet Fitness wearing the same clothes and carrying the same bag from the Tesla video camera footage. He scans his membership card with front desk staff and proceeds into the gym. Suspect was identified by both his gym membership identification card, and his Pennsylvania Driver's License photo," the post states.
He faces charges of criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to the department.

White House considers Signal chat leak case 'closed,' reiterates support for Waltz, press secretary says
The White House considers the Signal group chat leak case "closed," Trump administration press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the media Monday while reiterating President Donald Trump's support of national security advisor Mike Waltz.
"As the president has made it very clear, Mike Waltz continues to be an important part of his national security team," Leavitt told the media in brief remarks during a gaggle outside of the White House's press room Monday afternoon. "And this case has been closed here at the White House, as far as we are concerned."
"There have been steps made to ensure that something like that can obviously never happen again," she continued. "And we're moving forward. And the president and Mike Waltz and his entire national security team have been working together very well, if you look at how much safer the United States of America is because of the leadership of this team."
The Trump administration came under scrutiny from Democrats and other critics after the Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, revealed in an article published March 24 that he was added to a Signal group chat with top national security leaders, including Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
Signal is an encrypted messaging app that operates similarly to texting or making phone calls, but with additional security measures that help ensure communications are kept private to those included in the correspondence.
TRUMP SAYS WALTZ DOESN'T NEED TO APOLOGIZE OVER SIGNAL TEXT CHAIN LEAK: ‘DOING HIS BEST’
The Atlantic's report characterized the Trump administration as texting "war plans" regarding a planned strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Trump administration has maintained, however, that no classified material was transmitted in the chat, with Trump repeatedly defending Waltz amid the fallout.
DEMS HAVE LONG HISTORY OF SUPPORTING ENCRYPTED SIGNAL APP AHEAD OF TRUMP CHAT LEAK
Waltz took responsibility for the journalist's inclusion in the high-profile group chat, including in an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham.
"I built the group. My job is to make sure everything’s coordinated," Waltz said on "The Ingraham Angle."
"Of course I didn’t see this loser in the group. It looked like someone else," Waltz added. "The person I thought was on there was never on there."
TRUMP REVEALS WHO WAS BEHIND SIGNAL TEXT CHAIN LEAK
Leavitt told the media Wednesday that the administration was investigating the incident, explaining Elon Musk's team was also assisting with the investigation.
"The National Security Council, the White House Counsel's Office, and also, yes, Elon Musk's team" will be leading the investigation into the Signal leak, Leavitt said during a White House press briefing.
TOP DEM USED SAME APP USED IN ATLANTIC SCANDAL TO SET UP CONTACT WITH STEELE DOSSIER AUTHOR
"Elon Musk has offered to put his technical experts on this, to figure out how this number was inadvertently added to the chat – again, to take responsibility and ensure this can never happen again," she continued.
Trump slammed the media's coverage of the group chat in a Truth Social post Sunday afternoon, calling it the "never ending Signal story."
"They just don’t stop – Over and over they go! Meet the Fake Press should instead explain how successful the attack was, and how Sleepy Joe Biden should have done it YEARS AGO," he posted.
"This story and narrative is so old and boring, but only used because we are having the most successful ‘First One Hundred Presidential Days’ in the history of America, and they can’t find anything else to talk about. The Fake News Media has the lowest Approval Ratings in history, and for good reason. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

New research reveals how EV, emissions mandates are inflating costs for gas-powered cars, utilities
FIRST ON FOX: Government subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs), combined with a regulatory credit system for vehicle emissions, are leading to rising automobile and utility costs, a new report from the American Energy Institute (AEI) reveals.
Increasingly stringent Corporate Average Fuel Economy and greenhouse gas tailpipe emissions standards have forced gas-powered vehicle manufacturers to produce more EVs. As a result, this has siphoned auto manufacturers' resources away from gas-powered vehicle production and toward EV production, ultimately pushing the costs of gas-powered cars higher, according a report by the AEI.
If auto manufacturers do not produce enough EVs to meet state and federal standards, they are forced to buy into a credit system to offset their emissions production, inevitably creating another avenue where additional costs are transferred to consumers, according to the report.

Utility costs also see an impact, AEI's report points out. State and federal subsidy and rebate programs for EV charging infrastructure, while beneficial for utility companies' profits, lead once more to increased costs that are subsequently passed on to rate payers. Forty states offer rebates for in-home level two chargers, while at the federal level, rebate and subsidy programs for EV charging infrastructure received an investment of roughly $7.5 billion under former President Joe Biden.
"By distorting the market with regulatory credits, subsidies, and behind-the-scenes rulemaking, federal agencies are shifting costs from affluent EV buyers to working-class Americans — while straining a grid that’s already under pressure," said Jason Isaac, co-author of the report and the founder and CEO of AEI. "This isn’t about consumer choice or energy innovation. It’s administrative overreach that leaves Americans paying more to drive and to keep the lights on."
Isaac, a former Texas state representative, admitted that during his time in the legislature, he worked to create an EV subsidy in the Lone Star State, which provided all EV buyers with a $2,500 tax credit. He said that over time, he realized the majority of fully electric vehicles were being purchased by wealthier individuals who, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, would have done so even without the subsidies.
"This policy is not a home run," said Hunt Allcott, a professor of environmental social sciences and a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, with regard to the federal EV tax credit system. "While the [Inflation Reduction Act's] electric vehicle tax credits have slowed climate change and shifted production to U.S. manufacturing firms, they also impose high costs on U.S. taxpayers."

Each EV that's purchased benefits from an estimated $94,000 to $153,000 in hidden subsidies over a 10-year period, according to research from the AEI. These figures account for the costs automakers bear to meet government mandates as well as losses from forced EV production, expenses that ultimately raise prices for consumers.
Rebates and subsidies for EV charging infrastructure are driving up base utility rates for consumers as well, the AEI report states. It is estimated that if each EV sold resulted in one in-home or commercial charging infrastructure, the more than 1.1 million EVs sold in 2023 would have received more than $827 million in residential charging tax credits.
Isaac said these rebates and subsidies are then used by utility companies to lobby public utility commissions to approve higher base rates because they are enhancing their infrastructure to improve EV infrastructure.
"When you go buy a gallon of gasoline, [taxpayers] are not helping you pay for that gallon of gasoline; all the costs are embedded within a gallon of gasoline," Isaac said. "So the typical EV charge, whatever they pay at the charging station, is only a small portion of the expenses. That charging station itself has received a significant subsidy, both from the state and the federal government, and the utility has come in and increased the infrastructure or improved, enhanced the infrastructure to handle that load, and the rate payers in that particular area are picking up that burden."

One anecdote used in the report to illustrate the cost burden of EV charging subsidies and rebates posits that if one homeowner were to purchase an EV charger on a street of 10 people, and the local electric company provides that homeowner with a $500 rebate, the downhill impacts lead to each of the 10 households shouldering a roughly $50 cost to build the charger as a result of the subsidized rate increases.
The increased costs on gas-powered car buyers and utility rate payers, Issac said, illustrates the need to get rid of these clean-air mandates.
"Eliminating these costly EV mandates is exactly the kind of action needed under President Trump’s energy emergency," Isaac said. "It would jump-start a resurgence in the American auto industry, lower the price of new vehicles and ease pressure on our electric grid, bringing down energy costs for every household."
