US rescue teams to descend on hard-hit Caribbean after catastrophic Hurricane Melissa's impact

FIRST ON FOX: The State Department is deploying teams that are expected to arrive in the Caribbean as early as Thursday to support disaster response after Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica Tuesday.

The State Department announced it would deploy a regional disaster assistance response team (DART) and had activated U.S.-based urban search and rescue (USAR) teams to support response efforts in the region following Hurricane Melissa.

A senior State Department official told Fox News Digital Wednesday that these teams are expected to arrive in Jamaica Thursday since the airport hasn’t suffered too much damage, but plans are in place to coordinate with the Department of War for a potential airlift in case commercial operations are not available.

Likewise, the State Department also has requested the Department of War provide airlift support to provide food, water and other nutritional supplies to those in need throughout the island.

FLOODS, LANDSLIDES IN MEXICO LEAVE AT LEAST 41 DEAD

Another disaster assistance response team is expected to provide assistance to Haiti Thursday. The Bahamas also are expected to request a declaration of humanitarian need later Wednesday, which will allow the State Department to activate a disaster assistance response team there too, which could arrive as early as Friday, the official said.

Additionally, the State Department has signed off on nearly $1 million to go toward administering food and other resources, pulling from predesignated supplies housed in 12 different warehouses across the region. This includes six warehouses based in Haiti, one in the Dominican Republic, another in Barbados and one in Miami.

"We have stood up resources to assist our American citizens who are on the ground, in addition to deploying Disaster Assistance Response Teams who will help provide critical coordination in overseeing U.S. assistance," State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

DHS JUGGLES ‘MASS DEPORTATION’ PUSH WITH HELENE RELIEF, ADDS $124M AFTER BIDEN BACKLASH

Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane — the highest level — and is the most powerful to strike Kingston since the island started tracking its storms 174 years ago.

Jamaica is reporting at least one death as a result of the storm, and significant damage to the island that has wiped out power for a majority of citizens. Roughly 77% of the island does not have power, Dana Morris Dixon, Jamaica’s education minister said Wednesday.

Additionally, more than 25,000 people in Jamaica have headed to shelters after the storm destroyed their homes.

"It’s not going to be an easy road, Jamaica," said Desmond McKenzie, deputy chairman of Jamaica’s Disaster Risk Management Council.

The hurricane is now on its way to Cuba as a Category 2 storm. Other Caribbean countries, including the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Turks and Caicos, also expect to experience fallout from the storm.

NFL fans upset as Eagles benefit from early whistle on tush push vs Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles took the lead in the second quarter against the New York Giants on Sunday following a controversial call on the notorious tush push play.

The Eagles had the ball on 4th-and-1 with Jalen Hurts under center. He had his teammates behind him to push him across the first down marker to keep the ball. As he was getting pushed forward, Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux ripped the ball out of Hurts’ hands.

It appeared the Giants were going to get the ball back. But as the team was celebrating, the officials on the field blew the play dead and gave Philadelphia the first down. Head referee Brad Rodgers explained afterward the officials ruled that Hurts’ forward progress was stopped.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll was irate on the sidelines.

Two plays later, Hurts tossed the ball to Saquon Barkley for a touchdown that helped Philadelphia go up 14-7. It was Barkley’s second touchdown of the game.

REX RYAN GIVES TEARFUL REACTION TO DEATH OF JETS LEGEND NICK MANGOLD: 'GREAT YOUNG MAN'

NFL fans, already fed up with the tush push and how it’s being officiated, were upset with the most recent incident.

In the last meeting between the two teams, the Eagles ran the tush push four straight times in one of their touchdown drives. New York ended up winning that game earlier this month.

NFL owners have been under pressure to ban the play. It survived a vote that would have prohibited the call during the offseason. It’s expected to be revisited next year.

Arnold Schwarzenegger dismisses Newsom argument that redistricting effort is temporary as 'total fantasy'

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger dismissed current Gov. Gavin Newsom's argument that the proposed redistricting in the state was temporary, calling the notion "total fantasy."

"I think when he — when they say this is temporary, there is no such thing. I mean, the longest programs are government programs that are temporary. Okay, just remember that if this is a tax program or if it is the redistricting program, anything that is temporary with government is permanent," he told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union," responding to a clip of Newsom touting his Proposition 50 legislation that would reshape congressional seats.

Voting opened last week to add as many as five Democrat-held seats in Congress, which could possibly offset President Donald Trump’s moves in Texas and elsewhere to help Republicans in the 2026 election. Obama endorsed Prop 50 this week.

"In the year 2032 when the independent redistricting commission is supposed to come back, they‘re going to say, ‘Wait a minute. There‘s still gerrymandering going on in Texas. There‘s still gerrymandering going on in Ohio. There‘s still gerrymandering going on in Florida. We have to continue with gerrymandering.’ This is what‘s going to happen. They will find an excuse. So therefore I don‘t think it is temporary. So that‘s total fantasy," Schwarzenegger said.

REDISTRICTING BATTLE: NEWSOM VOWS TO FIGHT ‘FIRE WITH FIRE’

Newsom issued a response to those who oppose Proposition 50 and said, "Spare me the moral high ground."

Schwarzenegger called the redistricting efforts cheating, and said Democrats needed to outperform Trump.

"What the Democrats should do is they should outperform Trump. To me, it‘s all about competition creates performance. And so what they do is with the redistricting commission is that they‘re going to go and try to draw the district lines in such a way that they get voted in, no matter if they work well or not for the American people. So the American people get cheated on this whole thing. That is really the problem here," he said.

ABBOTT, TEXAS REPUBLICANS MAKE NEW PUSH FOR TRUMP-BACKED REDISTRICTING AS FLEEING DEMOCRATS TO END WALKOUT

The former Republican California governor said that he understood Republicans and Democrats needed to "fight" about it, but argued that Americans were being cheated.

"I think that if you want to really fight for democracy, why would you go in, destroy the Constitution in California, tear it up and redo it, do the whole thing? So to me, it just doesn‘t make any sense at all," he added.

Schwarzenegger has come out against the redistricting efforts in a post on social media, where he posted a photo of himself at the gym wearing a t-shirt that read "terminate gerrymandering."

The former governor also told CNN that he and Newsom were friendly and spoke about the issue. Schwarzenegger said they've been speaking out about it without attacking one another.

John Fetterman breaks with Democrats in shutdown vote, says it’s an ‘easy choice’ to put America first

The government shutdown has stretched into one of the longest in U.S. history, with Democrats and Republicans deadlocked over healthcare funding.

Among the few lawmakers breaking ranks is Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa, who voted with Republicans to reopen the government. Now, he’s urging his colleagues to do the same.

"It’s an easy, easy choice to pick my country over the party, especially in circumstances like this," Fetterman said on "Saturday in America."

On Thursday, the Senate failed in a 54-46 vote to advance a Republican bill to pay certain federal workers during the shutdown, falling short of the 60 votes needed to pass the measure. Only three Democrats, including Fetterman, voted with Republicans.

GOVERNMENT LIMPS DEEPER INTO SHUTDOWN CRISIS WITH NO DEAL IN SIGHT

Democrats have refused to back any funding bill unless it includes an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which are set to expire in 2025. They argue that failing to act before open enrollment in November could drive up premiums for millions of Americans.

But Republicans say the government needs to reopen before they can negotiate.

"I do believe that there’s a critical mass of my fellow Democrats that are dug in until there’s an absolute ironclad kind of a deal," Fetterman said, explaining his party’s position.

SHUTDOWN IGNITES STRATEGIST DEBATE: WILL TRUMP AND GOP PAY THE POLITICAL PRICE IN 2026?

But Fetterman said he believes Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., is an "honorable guy" and that talks on healthcare will move forward when the government is reopened.

"Let's just open it up," he said.

"Then we can have that conversation to see if we can extend those tax credit deals, because I do believe there are enough Republicans that would like to see that too."

SENATE STALLS ON SHUTDOWN VOTE AMID WARNING FURLOUGHED WORKERS MAY LOSE PAY

The shutdown began Oct. 1, shuttering nonessential federal offices and delaying pay for hundreds of thousands of workers. As it entered its fourth week, many federal employees missed their first full paycheck.

The impact on the federal government’s nutrition program is a major issue for Fetterman and one reason he believes lawmakers need to set aside differences and focus on getting people fed.

He said that amid the standoff, neither political side is winning the battle. Instead, the entire country is losing.

"It’s like, ‘Are we winning? Are we losing?’" he said.

"Because I guarantee America is losing in this place right now."

Eight Americans arrested in Bahamas after authorities discover 'high-powered weapons' cache, ammunition

Eight Americans were arrested in the Caribbean on Tuesday after authorities found "high-powered weapons" and a "substantial quantity of ammunition" on their boat, police said.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) said in a news release that officers from the Alice Town Police Station worked with the Bahamas Customs Department to search a vessel docked at a port on Bimini, a chain of western islands some 50 miles east of Miami, Florida, on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. The officers were "acting on intelligence," the RBPF said, but they did not specify what information they had.

The 10 occupants aboard the boat, which included eight Americans, one South African and another from Guyana, were taken into custody, the RBPF said. Those who were arrested range in age from 21 to 62, police noted. The RBPF did not identify them.

Bernie Sanders slams Kamala Harris' 2024 campaign, says she failed to focus on important issues

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., called out Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign on a podcast Wednesday and said she failed to focus on issues that mattered to working Americans.

"Why is there such a cover-up with Biden’s mental decline? Why is there no primary, a quick one even, after he is judged unfit to run? Why is there no transparency there? That’s a huge problem, and I think it delivered — I mean, I know people blame five podcasters, but I think that process helped deliver the country," host Tim Dillon asked Sanders during "The Tim Dillon Show."

Sanders began by praising Harris and noting that he ran against her in 2020. He added that he had campaigned hard for her in 2024.

"I think the reason that she lost that election gets back to the point we discussed at the beginning of this podcast and that is money in politics. Kamala did not run a campaign focused on the needs of the working class, didn’t run a campaign focused on healthcare, on economics, and raising the minimum wage, on paid family and medical leave, on housing, on all of the issues that working people are struggling with right now," Sanders said.

KAMALA HARRIS HINTS AT POLITICAL FUTURE, TELLS CHARLAMAGNE SHE'S 'IN IT FOR THE FIGHT'

"And I think her not focusing on those issues allowed Trump to win, in my view," he added.

Sanders previously criticized Harris’ campaign in an August interview on CNN, saying her consultants were "heavily influenced by wealthy people."

"I like her, she’s a friend of mine, but her core consultants, you know, were heavily influenced by very wealthy people. How do you run for president and not develop a strong agenda which speaks to the economic crises facing working families?" Sanders said.

BERNIE URGED HARRIS TO FOCUS 'ON THE WORKING CLASS, NOT JUST ON ABORTION,' BOOK REVEALS

"You know, more income and wealth inequality today than we’ve ever had. You have 60% of our people living paycheck to paycheck. You’ve got a healthcare system which is broken and dysfunctional — and despite spending so much — we’re the only major country not to guarantee healthcare to all people. How do you not talk about these issues?" Sanders continued.

Harris wrote in her book, "107 Days," that Sanders had urged her to focus on the working class when she took former President Joe Biden's spot at the top of the ticket.

"I supported Joe because he was the strongest voice for the working class. Please focus on the working class, not just on abortion," Sanders told Harris, according to her notes from their conversation.

Russia violates NATO airspace in Lithuania amid Putin warning on long-range missiles

Russia has renewed its violations of NATO airspace with jet incursions into Lithuanian territory, the nation’s president announced Thursday.

"This is a blatant breach of international law and territorial integrity of Lithuania," President Gitanas NausÄ—da said. "Once again, it confirms the importance of strengthening European air defense readiness."

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense said: "Russian military aircraft briefly entered Lithuanian airspace. Our forces acted quickly with NATO jets on patrol."

The ministry said around 6 p.m. local time two Russian airplanes - an Su30 and IL78, a refueling aircraft, entered Lithuanian airspace for about 18 seconds. A government source guessed it was a refueling exercise.

Two Spanish fighter jets on a NATO air police mission flew to the site of the violation.

RUSSIA SHIFTS FROM TALK TO ACTION, TARGETING NATO HOMELAND AMID FEARS OF GLOBAL WAR

Russian diplomats in Vilnius have been called in to meet with the foreign ministry on the matter.

In late September, Lithuania authorized its armed forces to shoot down unmanned aerial vehicles that breach its borders after several Russian drones crashed on its territory near the border.

Russian jets also violated airspace in Estonia for 12 minutes last month, coming near the capital city of Talinn.

NATO WARNS RUSSIA AFTER POLAND SHOOTS DOWN 'HUGE NUMBER' OF DRONES THAT VIOLATED ITS AIRSPACE

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists that if Russia were attacked with Western long-range missiles, the response would be "very serious, if not overwhelming. Let them think about it."

His comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked the U.S. for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles and a Wall Street Journal report that the Trump administration lifted a key restriction on Ukraine's use of Western long-range missiles. Trump denied the report on Truth Social.

Zelenskyy asked the U.S. to provide Tomahawk missiles, but so far President Donald Trump has held off. Still, he imposed harsh sanctions on Russia’s oil industry on Wednesday.

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces on Tuesday said it used British-made Storm Cruiser Missiles to strike deep within Russia’s territory to strike a chemical plant.

Meanwhile, Trump has called off plans to meet with Putin in Hungary, saying he didn’t want to "waste time" after the Kremlin rejected the idea of freezing the front lines of the battle while the two sides hash out a longer-term peace deal.

The U.S. president last month suggested NATO countries should shoot down Russian jets that violate their airspace.

"Do you think that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace?" a reporter asked the president.

"Yes, I do," he replied.

Florida mayor predicts 'substantial exodus' of NYC businesses if Mamdani wins

Boca Raton’s Republican mayor, Scott Singer, told Fox News Digital that if socialist Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City mayor’s race next month, Florida could see a fresh wave of relocated businesses.

"The threat of people leaving high tax, high crime jurisdictions like New York and other places is real," Singer told Fox News Digital.

"It's been happening for years, and Boca Raton has been the beneficiary of a lot of businesses bringing their corporate headquarters and high-paying jobs here. I think the threat is even more real. People are already preparing to leave before a Mamdani election and if the polls hold as they expect in the next few weeks, we're going to see a lot more people looking to bring their businesses here and create jobs in Boca Raton."

Mamdani’s socialist economic policies, along with his adoption of communist talking points like "seizing the means of production" and abolishing private property, have been a major focus for his critics who have warned his victory would negatively affect businesses in New York City, the financial capital of the world.

‘ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK’: RESEARCHER PREDICTS NYC BUSINESS EXODUS IF ZOHRAN MAMDANI WINS

"It's hard to predict how bad the economic situation is going to be, but Mamdani doubled down at last week's debate and said it's about time we raised taxes, and he was grateful for it," Singer said. "When he's proposing a 17% marginal tax rate for New York City residents between state and local taxes, that's 17% that they can simply give up by moving here and with jobs more mobile because of technology and with companies finding great office space here, there's less and less reason for people to stay there."

Singer continued, "I think one year out, you're going to see a substantial exodus of companies that are able to move. Two years out, we're going to see depressed values, more unemployment, higher crime. And four years out? We don't know. I think at that point, they'll be ready for a new mayor if what we expect to happen in November happens."

Singer lauded the business climate in Boca Raton, notably the lowest property tax rate of any full-service city in Florida, along with no state income tax.

"People have been saying, well, we want to join you. Since Mamdani won the primary in June, we've had a lot of outbound outreach, as well as some marketing toward the New York market that's been effective," Singer explained. "And we have companies ranging from financial services to FinTech to AI and quantum computing and so many more who are looking at moving here."

Singer, who spent years as an attorney in New York City, said "a lot" of his contacts in the city are "very concerned" about the potential of a Mamdani victory.

"They've reached out to explore a better life in Boca Raton, and we're going to continue to see this in places that have lower taxes, lower regulation, welcome business, are not scaring people off with crazy ideas and the idea that you can tax people indefinitely and without limits before they start to react," Singer said, adding that New York City "is not as captive an audience as some people think."

"I think that's going to be demonstrated in the coming months and years."

CUOMO WARNS THERE WILL BE 'NOBODY LEFT' IN NEW YORK CITY IF MAMDANI BECOMES MAYOR

Singer also spoke to Fox News Digital about the contrast in public safety between Boca Raton and New York City, which he views as another reason why New Yorkers will consider Florida, particularly given Mamdani’s past calls to defund the police, which many of his critics argue he has not sufficiently walked back.

"In Boca Raton, we have outstanding public safety," Singer said. "Our crime numbers have continued to drop from what were 40-year lows despite rises nationally, and I think that's a contrast to what you're seeing in New York."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Singer, who chairs the America First Policy Institute Mayor's Council, told Fox News Digital that Boca Raton is a city that prioritizes public safety and backs their police with funding.

"Contrast that with a candidate who's had repeated comments about defunding the police, critical of public safety," Singer said. "We support public safety in Boca Raton and I think, ultimately, that's what a lot of people will be choosing. It's not just taxes. It's public safety, it's quality of life. I think we offer that all in Boca Raton and I think there are mayors across this country who offer a counter to what you're seeing in some of these larger cities."

Fox News Digital reached out to the Mamdani campaign for comment.

White House slams Jeffries' dismissal of bill to pay troops as government shutdown enters day 22

The White House slammed House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., as tensions on Capitol Hill grow over the ongoing government shutdown.

"[Rep. Jeffries], making sure U.S. troops get paid while Democrats keep the government shut down for free healthcare for illegal aliens — that’s called putting America First. But you wouldn’t know about it," the White House wrote on X in reference to Jeffries' criticism of the Shutdown Fairness Act.

The legislation was introduced by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and states that its goal is to "appropriate funds for pay and allowances of excepted Federal employees for periods of work performed during a lapse in appropriations, and for other purposes."

HAWLEY VOWS TO HOLD DEMOCRATS' 'FEET TO THE FIRE' WITH NEW GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN FUNDING BILLS

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., added the bill to the calendar last week, positioning it for a potential vote this week, according to Axios. The outlet noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told reporters he would bring the bill up for a vote in the House if it passes the Senate.

Jeffries echoed one of Democrats' concerns about the legislation, which is that it does not help furloughed employees.

"My understanding is that that is not a comprehensive bill that actually is designed to reopen the government while at the same time addressing the issues that need to be confronted on behalf of the American people, which include lowering the high cost of living and decisively addressing the Republican healthcare crisis," Jeffries told reporters on Monday.

MIKE JOHNSON FIRES BACK AT HAKEEM JEFFRIES' 'DESPERATE' CALL FOR TELEVISED SHUTDOWN DEBATE

"So, it's not legislation that I support because it appears to be more like a political ploy to pick and choose — giving Donald Trump discretion — which employees should be compensated and which employees should not be compensated. All employees should be compensated, and that will happen when we reopen the government."

The White House appeared to take issue with the "political ploy" remark, posting a screenshot of a headline from The Daily Caller highlighting that part of Jeffries' remarks and its criticism of the congressman.

TRUMP INSTRUCTS PENTAGON TO ENSURE TROOPS ARE PAID DESPITE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

President Donald Trump recently bypassed Congress and signed a directive ordering the Department of War to ensure that U.S. troops are paid despite the ongoing shutdown.

The White House said the move is necessary to protect "military readiness" as the budget standoff continued. The order, issued as National Security Presidential Memorandum-8 (NSPM-8), directs the department to use available fiscal year 2026 funds to cover military pay and allowances. Though it is unclear how the Pentagon is reallocating funds to comply with the order.

While Democrats objected and said the president overstepped, Trump cited his Article II powers as commander in chief in issuing the order, which covers active-duty troops and reservists on service orders.

Fox News Digital reached out to Jeffries' office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Fox News Digital's Elizabeth Elkind contributed to this report.

Trump says Schumer, Senate Democrats holding government 'hostage' with shutdown: 'We will not be extorted'

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senate Democrats are "holding the entire federal government hostage" during the shutdown, vowing, "We will not be extorted on this crazy plot of theirs."

Trump, speaking during a lunch at the White House Rose Garden, said, "Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats need to vote for the clean, bipartisan CR and reopen our government. It's got to be reopened right now.

"They are the obstructionists. And the reason they're doing it is because we're doing so well. We're doing well all over the world."

The president described Schumer as a politician who is in "deep trouble" and "losing in all of the polls."

GOP BLAMES SCHUMER FOR SHUTDOWN TO APPEASE 'MARXIST FLANK' AMID AOC PRIMARY CHALLENGE BUZZ

"He's even losing to AOC, plus three," Trump said, referring to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and other members of the progressive "Squad."

The government shutdown is now on its 21st day.

"You can call it the Schumer shutdown or the Democrats shutdown," Trump said Tuesday.

"You can call it whatever you want. And I will say this, that we have Darth Vader, you know, Darth Vader, right?" the president said in reference to Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought. "They call him Darth Vader. I call him a fine man, but he's cutting Democrat priorities, and they're never going to get them back.

WHITE HOUSE SLAMS SCHUMER'S 'DISGUSTING' STATEMENT ON SHUTDOWN AS POLITICAL STANDOFF CONTINUES

"Many of the things that they wanted are things that we don't want. Things that are just so bad for our country, and we're cutting those things out," the president said.

"Today I'm calling on every Senate Democrat to stop the madness, to let our country get back.

"In the greatest moment in the history of our country, in terms of wealth, in terms of job creation and in terms of investment coming in, these guys go on strike. It's really a shame. So, I'm asking them to be smart. It's not working. They're getting killed in the polls," Trump said. "The public understands what they're doing. They're doing the wrong thing."

Trump also said Republicans "have to win the midterms," and "we're going to end up with a communist mayor in New York," a reference to democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

US military seized survivors after Caribbean drone strike on suspected drug smuggling boat: report

The U.S. military has taken survivors into custody after a Thursday drone strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean, according to a report.

Two U.S. officials told The Associated Press the strike was the sixth carried out under the Trump administration as it continues targeting smuggling vessels operated by drug cartels.

One official said the strike, conducted on what is believed to be a semi-submersible or submersible vessel, killed at least one person and left at least two survivors.

US MILITARY DRONE STRIKE ON DRUG 'SUBMERSIBLE' IN CARIBBEAN LEAVES SURVIVORS, OFFICIAL CONFIRMS

President Donald Trump later confirmed the attack.

"We attacked a submarine, and that was a drug-carrying submarine built specifically for the transportation of massive amounts of drugs," Trump said Friday while hosting the Ukrainian president at the White House.

Secretary of State Rubio did not dispute that there were survivors, but he repeatedly said details would be forthcoming.

Thursday’s incident marks the first known case of reported survivors since U.S. forces began their campaign of lethal strikes against suspected drug boats.

It was not immediately clear what would be done with the individuals. Fox News Digital has reached out to the State and War departments for comment.

The Thursday strike brings the death toll from the Trump administration’s military campaign against vessels in the region to at least 28. The operations began last month and are part of Trump’s broader effort to dismantle transnational cartels by force.

The task force aims to "crush the cartels, stop the poison and keep America safe," Hegseth wrote last week on X, formerly Twitter. "The message is clear: If you traffic drugs toward our shores, we will stop you cold."

On Tuesday, Trump highlighted a separate strike that killed six suspected smugglers aboard a vessel off the coast of Venezuela.

"Venezuela is a big purveyor of drugs," Trump told reporters later that day in the Oval Office, accusing the country of sending its "criminals" into the United States.

Mom of Giants’ Cam Skattebo says young NFL star would ‘run into telephone poles’ in resurfaced interview

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo is quickly making a name for himself in the NFL.

The former Arizona State standout has become known for his eccentric personality – both on and off the field.

After a stellar performance in the Giants’ 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, an ESPN interview with Skattebo’s mother from January resurfaced, giving even more insight into the running back’s unique mindset.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

"Cameron’s always been able to figure out how to get up over or through things," Becky Skattebo said in the clip. "He would get out of any cart seat you could find. That’s how he ended up with the ‘Houdini’ nickname because if he didn’t want to be somewhere, he was getting out of the situation he was in."

She went on to say that Skattebo became involved in football at a young age because of his older brother, revealing a bizarre habit the running back developed.

EAGLES GET BLOWN OUT BY GIANTS AFTER RUNNING TUSH PUSH PLAY 4 STRAIGHT TIMES, INCITING BACKLASH

"He would put his brother’s shoulder pads on and he would run into telephone poles. Once he got onto the field, it was no surprise the punishment he inflicted on his own body and everybody else."

Skattebo is coming off his best performance of this season. He rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns in the Giants’ upset win over the Eagles. Fellow rookie Jaxson Dart also had a rushing touchdown and another passing score in the Thursday victory.

"I'm going to sleep with No. 3 tonight as my pillow," Skattebo said while holding up a game ball after the game. "We played hard, and props to the guys up front for all the effort they gave me and this team."

The Giants improved to 2-4 and will move on to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

War Secretary Pete Hegseth's plane makes 'unscheduled landing' after windshield crack

An aircraft carrying War Secretary Pete Hegseth made an "unscheduled landing" Wednesday afternoon in the United Kingdom.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell announced on social media that on the way back to the U.S. from NATO’s Defense Ministers meeting, Hegseth’s "plane made an unscheduled landing in the United Kingdom due to a crack in the aircraft windshield."

The plane landed based on standard procedures and everyone onboard, including Hegseth, was safe, according to Parnell.

"All good. Thank God," Hegseth wrote in an X post. "Continue mission!"

SMOKE FROM UNKNOWN PASSENGER DEVICE FORCES EMERGENCY LANDING OF AMERICAN AIRLINES FLIGHT TO WASHINGTON-DULLES

The Boeing aircraft descended to 10,000 feet, a standard emergency altitude, following a possible cabin depressurization, according to flight tracking data.

It is unclear what caused the alleged crack in the plane's windshield.

TOP US MILITARY BRASS TO HOLD SECRETIVE MEETING WITH HEGSETH AS TRUMP RAMPS UP RUSSIA CRITICISM

Less than a month ago, President Donald Trump and the first lady had to transfer from Marine One to a support helicopter after a hydraulic issue forced an unscheduled landing at a local airfield on the way to Stansted Airport in England.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Sept. 18 the switch was due to a "minor hydraulic issue," and the president and first lady safely boarded the support helicopter.

In February, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was on his way to Munich, Germany from Washington, D.C. for the Munich Security Conference, when the plane he was traveling in experienced a mechanical issue involving the cockpit windshield.

About 90 minutes into the flight, the C-32, a converted Boeing 757, turned around and landed at Joint Base Andrews.

Rubio continued his travel to Germany and the Middle East on a different aircraft.

Penn State fires James Franklin after stunning loss to Northwestern: report

Penn State reportedly fired head football coach James Franklin on Sunday.

The decision came after the Nittany Lions suffered an upset loss to the Northwestern Wildcats, ESPN reported. It was the school’s third straight loss and second consecutive shocking defeat. The team lost to the UCLA Bruins on the road last weekend.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The school reportedly owes Franklin more than $49 million. Assistant coach Terry Smith was named the interim head coach, according to ESPN.

Franklin took over as Penn State’s head coach before the 2014 season after he spent three years with the Vanderbilt Commodores, leading the school to back-to-back nine-win seasons.

He was in his 12th season at Penn State. He led the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, finishing 13-3.

DEION SANDERS SEEMINGLY STUNNED OVER POTENTIAL FINE FOR COLORADO FANS STORMING FIELD AFTER WIN

Franklin was 104-45 as the school’s head coach.

The shakeup came as the school announced that quarterback Drew Allar, who was thought of as a possible NFL prospect, was out for the season. Allar suffered a leg injury in the team’s 22-21 loss to Northwestern.

Penn State will now try to salvage its season as it continues into the thick of its Big Ten schedule. The Nittany Lions will be on the road for a game against the Iowa Hawkeyes, but it gets more difficult from there.

The Nittany Lions will have No. 1 Ohio State on Nov. 1 and No. 7 Indiana on Nov. 8. Four or more losses will likely keep Penn State out of the College Football Playoff this season.

Phillies reliever calls his crushing season-ending error a 'horses--- throw'

Philadelphia Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering talked about his season-ending mistake during the team's 2-1 Game 4 NLDS loss Thursday at Dodger Stadium that sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to the National League Championship Series.

Kerkering, 24, was pitching in a 1-1 game in the bottom of the 11th inning. The bases were loaded and there were two outs.

Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages hit a ground ball right back to Kerkering, who didn’t field the ball cleanly. Kerkering scrambled to pick up the booted ball and fired a wayward throw toward home plate, allowing the run to score.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

If Kerkering had looked up before he threw the ball, he would have seen catcher J.T. Realmuto pointing to first base, telling him to throw there.

The Phillies' reliever could have gathered himself and thrown to first base to record the final out of the inning but instead threw to home.

Kerkering said the pressure got to him.

"Just hit off my foot, once that pressure got to me, (I) just thought it was a faster throw to J.T., a little quicker throw than trying to cross body it to Bryce (Harper at first base)," Kerkering told reporters after the game.

PHILADELPHIA SUFFERS MISERABLE SPORTS NIGHT IN CITY'S FIRST 'TRIPLE LOSS' IN OVER FOUR DECADES

"Just a horses--- throw."

Kerkering said he was in the moment and didn’t hear his teammates telling him to go to first base. The Huntington Beach, California, native said his teammates encouraged him after the game.

"Just keep your head up," Kerkering said. "It’s an honest mistake. It’s baseball. S--- happens. Just keep your head up, you’ll be good for a long time to come. It’s not my fault. (We) had opportunities to score. Just keep your head up.

"Means a lot. It shows they care a lot. It just means everything, for sure," he added. "This really f---ing sucks right now, but hopefully keep pushing and get over this hump."

Kerkering had a strong season for the Phillies this year. In 69 games, he had an 8-4 record with a 3.30 ERA and four saves.

The NLCS will begin Monday.

The Dodgers will face either the Chicago Cubs or the Milwaukee Brewers, who will play a deciding NLDS Game 5 on Saturday.

Andrew Cuomo argues Zohran Mamdani would be a 'gift' to Trump on 'The View'

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo argued that rival New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani would be a "gift" to President Donald Trump during an interview on "The View" Monday.

Co-host Joy Behar pressed Cuomo, who is running for mayor as an independent, to respond to Mamdani's accusation that the former governor was coordinating with Trump. Mamdani appeared on the ABC News talk show last week.

"I am the last person President Trump wants as mayor of New York City," Cuomo said, denying an August New York Times report that he spoke to Trump by phone.

"Because he dealt with me as governor — New Yorkers watched the movie every day. During COVID, I was the governor, he was the president. We fought on a daily basis. He came with all his threats and all his power and might, threatened to put me in jail, had me investigated twice by the Department of Justice, threatened to cut off federal funds," Cuomo added.

ZOHRAN MAMDANI’S POLICIES 'WON'T WORK' IN NEW YORK, ANDREW CUOMO ARGUES

Behar asked Cuomo if he believed Trump wanted Mamdani to win.

"Mamdani is a gift for him — a gift," Cuomo told the co-hosts.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed and said Trump was "not a fan" of the former governor.

"He wants Mamdani, for two reasons. One, going into the midterms, he will take a picture of Mamdani, run around the country and say, ‘Here is what happened to the Democrats. They are now communists, they hate the police, they legalize prostitution, legalize drugs, they want to elect this Democrat, no experience whatsoever — being mayor of New York would be his first real job,'" he said.

ERIC ADAMS' ABRUPT EXIT FROM NYC MAYORAL RACE ESCALATES CLASH BETWEEN RIVALS: 'RECORD OF DISGRACE'

Cuomo also said that a Mamdani victory would allow Trump to "take over" New York City.

"It’s the excuse he needs to take over New York — which he said he will do. He said if they elect this person, then I, Donald Trump, am going to have to step in, take over New York to protect the good people of New York. That’s what’s going to happen," he said.

During an appearance on "The View" last week, Mamdani — a self-identified democratic socialist — denied being a "communist."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

Griffin also pressed Mamdani on his past anti-police comments and asked whether he had apologized to the NYPD.

"They can rest assured that it isn't consultants in my ear and I think this is another part of — to be a young person looking to lead is also to leave the opening for growth and understanding. And I can tell you growing up in this city, I thought often about safety and justice, and I saw how justice was often left aside," he said.

When asked about an apology, he said he was talking to police officers "individually."

Trump administration reviewing Portland federal funding amid anti-ICE clashes, journalist's detention

The Trump administration announced a review Friday of federal funding to Portland, Oregon, following violent anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) clashes there, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt vowing, "We will not fund states that allow anarchy."

The review comes after conservative journalist Nick Sortor was taken into custody late Thursday night while documenting the protests in Portland, something Leavitt described as an "extremely troubling incident." She said the Department of Justice spoke with Sortor Friday morning and "will be launching a full investigation into his arrest."

"This incident is part of a troubling trend in Portland, where left-wing mobs believe they get to decide who can visit and live in their city. It is not their city. It is the American people’s city and President Trump is going to restore that," Leavitt said. "I just spoke with the president about this, and he has directed his team here at the White House to begin reviewing aid that can potentially be cut in Portland. We will not fund states that allow anarchy.

"There will also be an additional surge of federal resources to Portland immediately, including enhanced Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) resources. Law and order will prevail, and President Trump will make sure of it."

PORTLAND POLICE ARREST CONSERVATIVE JOURNALIST ON ANOTHER NIGHT OF CHAOTIC ANTI-ICE CLASHES

Since early June, "Antifa terrorists have laid siege to the ICE field office in South Portland," Leavitt said Friday.

"These radical left-wing lunatics have violently breached the ICE facility by using a stop sign as a battering ram, hurled explosives and other projectiles at law enforcement, repeatedly assault and dox officers, berate their law-abiding neighbors and have even rolled out a guillotine in front of the ICE facility," she told reporters.

Leavitt said Sortor was "taken into custody by the Portland police after he was ambushed by Antifa and was defending himself from these assaults."

"But instead of arresting these violent mob members, night after night after night, who are ravaging this community, the police arrested a journalist who was there trying to document the chaos," she added.

ICE DIRECTOR SAYS PORTLAND FACILITY FACES VIOLENCE WITH 'LITTLE HELP FROM LOCAL POLICE'

Leavitt declared that President Donald Trump "will end the radical left’s reign of terror in Portland once and for all," and that the president has directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth "to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland and any ICE facilities under siege from attack by Antifa and other left wing domestic terrorists."

Sortor was charged with disorderly conduct in the second degree following his arrest late Thursday.

"This was as big of a surprise to me as it was to everybody else. All of a sudden, you know, I'm being jumped by Antifa thugs," Sortor told Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin following his release. "I get back up, I stumble away and go back toward cops where I think, you know, at least, all right, well, maybe that'll be a safer place for me to go. … Never suspected that I was going to be the target of the arrest, that they were coming in to me."

A Portland Police Bureau spokesperson told Fox News Digital that among those arrested Thursday "was an individual known to have a significant social media presence, as well as others representing a range of political viewpoints."

"As with all such situations, arrests are based on observed behavior and probable cause — not political affiliation or public profile. Formal charges will be determined by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office," the spokesperson added. "PPB remains committed to protecting public safety, upholding the rights of all individuals to lawfully assemble, and enforcing the law impartially."

Vance, Trump Jr.'s plans to bolster Charlie Kirk's 'political legacy' revealed: 'Help grow it'

Vice President JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr. will attend events in the coming months for Turning Point USA, the influential conservative youth organization co-founded by their close friend, the late Charlie Kirk.

The news, first reported by Axios, was confirmed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday morning by a source close to both the vice president and Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump.

Kirk, the co-founder of the politically potent conservative youth organization, close ally and outside advisor to the president and vice president and media star, was shot and killed earlier this month while speaking at a college campus event at Utah Valley University.

MAJORITY OF VOTERS BELIEVE THIS IN WAKE OF KIRK ASSASSINATION: POLL

The source close to both Vance and Trump Jr. said they "were so personally close to Charlie that they are determined to do right by him and continue to work closely with Turning Point."

HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS REPORTING ON THE ASSASSINATION OF CHARLIE KIRK

Vance accompanied Kirk's widow Erika on Air Force two to transport Charlie Kirk's body from Utah back to their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona.

A few days later, the vice president guest-hosted Kirk's highly popular podcast.

Both Vance and Trump Jr., as well as the president, also spoke at Kirk's memorial service in Arizona.

"I would expect to see both of them turn up at TPUSA events over the next several months and long after that," the source said of Vance and Trump Jr. "They understand that Turning Point is now Charlie's political legacy, and they both want to help grow it to be bigger and more influential than ever."

Turning Point USA’s political arm was successful in driving up the youth vote for Trump and Republicans in last year’s election, when the GOP won back the White House and control of the Senate and held onto its House majority.

And Trump’s political team wants to make sure Turning Point USA, now under the leadership of Erika Kirk, remains well funded and politically potent ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
