CNN's Abby Phillip calls notion that 'no one is being held accountable' for Minnesota fraud 'completely false'

CNN anchor Abby Phillip asserted that the idea that "no one is being held accountable" for the widespread fraud being reported in Minnesota is "completely false," and that the abuse was not "just left to run rampant."

During a Monday broadcast of "CNN NewsNight," Phillip clashed with CNN's Scott Jennings over the handling of Minnesota's exploding fraud scandal, with Jennings arguing that not enough had been done to resolve the situation and prevent future abuse.

"This idea that nothing is being done, that no one is being held accountable, that this was just left to run rampant, is completely false," Phillip said.

HOUSE GOP WHIP URGES CITIZENSHIP REVOCATIONS TIED TO MINNESOTA FRAUD SCHEMES

Jennings pushed back on this assertion, conceding that while "some people have been held accountable," he's of the same opinion as many Republicans who feel that "not nearly enough" of those involved have been brought to justice.

"And truthfully, until somebody in a position of power — until somebody in a position in Minnesota, elected position, who was in charge of administering this or having some oversight over it — goes to jail, it’s honestly never going to stop," he added.

The conservative commentator went on to cite what he called "rampant fraud" taking place in "blue states across the country," pointing to $9 billion of reported fraud in Minnesota and $70 billion in California.

"When is someone in a position of power going to go to jail for the rampant fraud?" he questioned. "You can put all the low-level people in jail you want, but until somebody in charge goes to jail, it won’t stop!"

MINNESOTA DEM SENATE CANDIDATE FACES CALL FROM OPPONENT TO APOLOGIZE OVER VIRAL 'PANDERING' HIJAB VIDEO

Phillip countered Jennings' point by mentioning various fraudsters who were pardoned by President Donald Trump, asking Jennings "where is that same energy" when it comes to the president pardoning individuals convicted of fraud.

"I have no defense for anybody who commits fraud. Fraud is bad," he responded. "What I am telling you, though, is in the case of these states and locales, this is public money, taxpayer money."

Jennings added that elected officials are responsible for the taxpayer-funded programs they oversee, referencing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's comments from last year bragging that his state would be providing $316 million in direct funding for childcare providers — a sector that has since faced widespread fraud allegations.

Several Republican lawmakers in Minnesota released a statement on Monday calling for Walz to resign in light of the unfolding fraud scandal that has spiraled during his tenure.

Earlier this month, federal prosecutors revealed that the fraud scandal in Minnesota, primarily found within the state's Somali community, could cost taxpayers as much as $9 billion.

The Monday call from Republicans for Walz to resign comes shortly after a viral video by journalist Nick Shirley, seen more than 100 million times on X, highlighting suspected fraudulent daycare locations, prompted even more scrutiny on Walz.

"The governor has worked for years to crack down on fraud and ask the state legislature for more authority to take aggressive action," a Walz spokesperson told Fox News. "He has strengthened oversight — including launching investigations into these specific facilities, one of which was already closed."

The spokesperson added that Walz has "hired an outside firm to audit payments to high-risk programs, shut down the Housing Stabilization Services program entirely, announced a new statewide program integrity director, and supported criminal prosecutions."

'Worst of the worst': The 10 most violent illegal immigrants nabbed in 2025

In President Donald Trump’s first year back in office, over 2.5 million illegal aliens have left the country, due in large part to the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration and extensive deportation program.

In its deportation push, the Department of Homeland Security has prioritized targeting violent criminal illegals. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin has accused the media of "whitewashing" facts about the arrests of illegal immigrants with violent criminal histories and portraying them as victims.

"As the media whitewashes the facts, day in and day out, our brave men and women of ICE risk their lives for the American people," McLaughlin said.

From a "habitual" child predator to a beheading incident to another who strangled a taxicab driver to death, here are ten of the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens arrested with violent charges this year.

On June 1, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national living in the U.S. on an expired visa, was arrested on federal charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and a hate crime after allegedly setting fire to people at a pro-Israel event in Boulder.

Authorities described the attack as terrorism-inspired violence.

According to the federal indictment, Soliman threw two Molotov cocktails at event attendees, shouting, "Free Palestine!" Per the indictment, he was armed with a backpack weed sprayer that contained a flammable liquid and a black plastic container that held at least 18 Molotov cocktails.

DHS TAKES VICTORY LAP AFTER ARRESTING OVER 10K ILLEGAL ALIENS IN DEEP BLUE CITY DESPITE VIOLENT RIOTS

Thirteen people were injured in the attack, and an 82-year-old woman, Karen Diamond, died of her injuries on June 25, 2025. A dog was also harmed.

Just days later, Emiliano Garduno-Galvez was arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement during anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

The incident was caught on video and posted to X by DHS.

According to the agency, Garduno-Galvez had been previously deported and has a criminal history, including grand theft and a DUI.

On June 20, DHS announced that ICE arrested Gabriel Hurtado-Cariaco, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant and member of the infamous Tren de Aragua gang, which was designated a "foreign terrorist organization" by the Trump administration.

According to DHS, during an immigration enforcement operation in Bellevue, Nebraska, Hurtado-Cariaco launched a "brutal and premeditated assault" on a female ICE Homeland Security Investigations special agent and an FBI agent. The agency said that Hurtado-Cariaco threw the ICE agent to the ground, slammed her head into the pavement, ripped off her body armor, and made repeated and physical violent contact. The agent survived but sustained serious injuries to her head and arm and was treated at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Though Hurtado-Cariaco fled the scene, he was picked up hours later and charged with attempted murder of a federal officer and assault of a federal officer with infliction of bodily injury. He entered the country illegally in 2023.

Also facing deportation is Indian illegal alien Harjinder Singh, who was arrested on August 12 after a Florida Turnpike crash in which investigators allege he made an unlawful U-turn with a semitruck, causing a wreck that killed three people.

DHS LAUNCHES 'WORST OF THE WORST' WEBPAGE TARGETING ALLEGED CRIMINAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS NATIONWIDE

Singh is facing three counts of vehicular homicide in Florida and ICE has lodged a detainer for his arrest.

According to DHS, Singh entered the country illegally in 2018 and was issued a commercial driver’s license by the state of California in 2024. Singh’s case sparked widespread concern about illegal immigrant drivers endangering lives on U.S. roads.

On Aug. 18, ICE arrested William Alexander Telles Amaya, a 35-year-old criminal alien from El Salvador, whom the agency described as a "habitual child predator."

ICE said that Amaya has been convicted three times for child sex offenses, including aggravated sexual assault of a child in April 2006, failure to register as a sex offender in May 2015, and sexual indecency with a minor in July 2025.

DHS PACKAGES LATEST ICE ARRESTS AS 'CHRISTMAS GIFT TO AMERICANS'

In another major Texas city, Dallas, ICE arrested Cuban illegal Yordanis Cobos-Martinez on Sept. 10. According to the agency, Cobos-Martinez has a long criminal history, including child sex abuse, grand theft of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment and carjacking.

The agency said that Cobos-Martinez was arrested by Dallas police for allegedly using a machete to behead a merchant he had argued with. The agency said the murder took place in front of the merchant’s spouse and child and that Cobos-Martinez then kicked the head of the victim "around like a soccer ball."

ICE said that Cobos-Martinez had previously been arrested by ICE and had a final order of removal, but was released by the Biden administration just a week before Trump took office on Jan. 13.

DHS announced the Oct. 14 arrest of Eduardo Aguilar, a 23-year-old Mexican illegal alien residing in Dallas, after he called for the murder of ICE agents in a Spanish video posted on TikTok.

Aguilar’s post, dated Oct. 9, 2025, called for "10 dudes in Dallas with determination who aren’t afraid to [two skull emoji]." He offered "10K for each ICE agent."

According to court records, Aguilar was charged with transmitting a communication in interstate or foreign commerce containing a threat.

He entered the country illegally in 2018 and had an outstanding removal order from 2019. At the time of his arrest, Aguilar had a loaded 9mm handgun in his vehicle.

DHS RIPS DEM-RUN COUNTY AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT MURDERER RELEASED: 'BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS'

In Plano, Texas, ICE lodged a detainer on Nov. 17 against Sergio Noe de Nova Duarte, a Mexican illegal alien, who allegedly attacked an innocent woman jogging in a park with a hammer.

The Plano Police Department charged Duarte with aggravated kidnapping and bodily injury. He had previous arrests for burglary and larceny in 2024 and had been arrested by ICE, but was released under the Biden administration. He was set to appear before an immigration judge in 2026.

He entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2016 and overstayed his visa.

This month, ICE announced it had arrested Esteban Silva-Garcia, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, following a conviction of strangulation, applying pressure to the throat or neck, and endangering the welfare of a child in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

ICE ARRESTS 100+ ILLEGAL ALIEN TRUCKERS IN MAJOR SWEEP AFTER DEADLY CRASHES ACROSS MULTIPLE STATES

Just days before Christmas, DHS announced it had arrested Santos Paulino Vasquez-Ramirez, a Guatemalan illegal charged with homicide and robbery. The agency said that Vasquez-Ramirez strangled a taxicab driver named Aurelio Zhunio-Orbez to death in Brewster, New York, over a dispute about fare.

Zhunio-Orbez’s body was found a few days later, floating in the Croton Falls Reservoir.

Vasquez-Ramirez entered the country illegally in 2013 and had an outstanding order of removal from 2016.

Apple patches two zero-day flaws used in targeted attacks

Apple has released emergency security updates to fix two zero-day vulnerabilities that attackers actively exploited in highly targeted attacks.

The company described the activity as an "extremely sophisticated attack" aimed at specific individuals. Although Apple did not identify the attackers or victims, the limited scope strongly suggests spyware-style operations rather than widespread cybercrime.

Both flaws affect WebKit, the browser engine behind Safari and all browsers on iOS. As a result, the risk is significant. In some cases, simply visiting a malicious webpage may be enough to trigger an attack.

Below, we break down what these vulnerabilities mean and explain how you can better protect yourself.

NEW IPHONE SCAM TRICKS OWNERS INTO GIVING PHONES AWAY

The two vulnerabilities are tracked as CVE-2025-43529 and CVE-2025-14174, and Apple confirmed that both were exploited in the same real-world attacks. According to Apple's security bulletin, the flaws were abused on versions of iOS released before iOS 26, and the attacks were limited to "specific targeted individuals."

CVE-2025-43529 is a WebKit use-after-free vulnerability that can lead to arbitrary code execution when a device processes maliciously crafted web content. To put it simply, it allows attackers to run their own code on a device by tricking the browser into mishandling memory. Apple credited Google's Threat Analysis Group with discovering this flaw, which is often a strong indicator of nation-state or commercial spyware activity.

The second flaw, CVE-2025-14174, is also a WebKit issue, this time involving memory corruption. While Apple describes the impact as memory corruption rather than direct code execution, these types of bugs are often chained together with other vulnerabilities to fully compromise a device. Apple says this issue was discovered jointly by Apple and Google's Threat Analysis Group.

In both cases, Apple acknowledged that it was aware of reports confirming active exploitation in the wild. That language is important because Apple typically reserves it for situations where attacks have already occurred, not just theoretical risks. The company says it addressed the bugs through improved memory management and better validation checks, without sharing deeper technical details that could help attackers replicate the exploits.

Apple has released patches across its supported operating systems, including the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Safari, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS.

According to Apple's advisory, affected devices include iPhone 11 and newer models, multiple generations of iPad Pro, iPad Air from the third generation onward, the eighth-generation iPad and newer and the iPad mini starting with the fifth generation. This covers the vast majority of iPhones and iPads still in active use today.

Apple has patched the flaws across its entire ecosystem. Fixes are available in iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2, iOS 18.7.3 and iPadOS 18.7.3, macOS Tahoe 26.2, tvOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, visionOS 26.2 and Safari 26.2. Because Apple requires all iOS browsers to use WebKit under the hood, the same underlying issue also affected Chrome on iOS.

Here are six practical steps you can take to stay safe, especially in light of highly targeted zero-day attacks like this.

REAL APPLE SUPPORT EMAILS USED IN NEW PHISHING SCAM

This sounds obvious, but it matters more than anything else. Zero-day attacks rely on people running outdated software. If Apple ships an emergency update, install it the same day if you can. Delaying updates is often the only window attackers need. If you tend to forget about updates, let your devices handle it for you. Enable automatic updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and Safari. That way, you are protected even if you miss the news or are traveling.

Most WebKit exploits start with malicious web content. Avoid tapping on random links sent over SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram or email unless you are expecting them. If something feels off, open the site later by typing the address yourself.

The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.

Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android & iOS devices at Cyberguy.com.

If you are a journalist, activist, or someone who deals with sensitive information, consider reducing your attack surface. Use Safari only, avoid unnecessary browser extensions, and limit how often you open links inside messaging apps.

Apple's Lockdown Mode is designed specifically for targeted attacks. It restricts certain web technologies, blocks most message attachments, and limits attack vectors commonly used by spyware. It is not for everyone, but it exists for situations like this.

Targeted attacks often start with profiling. The more personal data about you that is floating around online, the easier it is to pick you as a target. Removing data from broker sites and tightening social media privacy settings can lower your visibility.

While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They aren't cheap, and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. It's what gives me peace of mind and has proven to be the most effective way to erase your personal data from the internet. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you.

Check out my top picks for data removal services and get a free scan to find out if your personal information is already out on the web by visiting Cyberguy.com.

Unexpected crashes, overheating, sudden battery drain or Safari closing on its own can sometimes be warning signs. These do not automatically mean your device is compromised. However, if something feels consistently wrong, updating immediately and resetting the device is a smart move.

Apple has not shared details about who was targeted or how the attacks were delivered. However, the pattern fits closely with past spyware campaigns that focused on journalists, activists, political figures and others of interest to surveillance operators. With these patches, Apple has now fixed seven zero-day vulnerabilities that were exploited in the wild in 2025 alone. That includes flaws disclosed earlier this year and a backported fix in September for older devices.

Jimmy Kimmel sparks backlash with ‘tyranny’ jab at America in UK Christmas speech

Jimmy Kimmel is facing renewed backlash following his decision to criticize the United States during an address to the United Kingdom that aired on Christmas. RealClearPolitics co-founder Tom Bevan dismissed Kimmel’s remarks as contradictory and called the late-night host "insufferable."

Kimmel was selected to deliver Channel 4’s annual "Alternative Christmas Message," a long-standing counter-programming speech that airs opposite the BBC’s traditional Royal Christmas address.

During the speech, the late-night host repeatedly took aim at President Donald Trump, claiming that "tyranny is booming over here" in the U.S. He also apologized on behalf of the country, telling the audience, "We are not bright. We’re Americans."

LATE-NIGHT COMEDY SHOWS BOOKED 90 LIBERAL GUESTS TO ONE CONSERVATIVE IN LATE 2025, STUDY SHOWS

Kimmel went on to argue that Trump wanted to silence him because he does not "adore him in the way he likes to be adored." He also claimed that after his show was briefly pulled off the air in September, it returned "stronger than ever" and that "the president lost."

JIMMY KIMMEL SAYS TYRANNY RISING UNDER TRUMP, TAUNTS PRESIDENT OVER SHOW'S RETURN

Bevan said Kimmel’s claims don’t make sense, given the host’s continued presence on television, calling him "among the most insufferable Trump haters in America."

"There's a real contradiction there. If tyranny is booming, how can his show be doing so well?" asked Bevan on "America’s Newsroom" Friday.

"If, you know, tyranny is so great in the United States, why does Jimmy Kimmel get to go on the air every single night and bash the president of the United States? That seems like a free America," he later added.

Other figures on X took aim at Kimmel for ripping his own country while ignoring the free speech issues in Britain, given the flood of arrests there of citizens over social media posts.

KIMMEL'S WIFE SAYS DAUGHTER 'BURST INTO TEARS' AFTER DAD'S SHOW SUSPENDED, SON ASKED IF TRUMP WAS RESPONSIBLE

Earlier this year, Disney temporarily pulled Kimmel’s show off the air after the host suggested that the suspected killer of Charlie Kirk was a Trump supporter. Following the remarks, several local television broadcasters refused to air the show for days.

Kimmel eventually returned to his show, saying he hadn’t intended to make light of the shooting. While the controversy led to a ratings bump, Kimmel and most other late-night comedians continue to face declining viewership.

"They became more and more niche, basically pandering to sort of an anti-Trump audience. And as a result, they found their ratings decline rather precipitously," Bevan said.

Earlier this month, ABC extended Kimmel’s contract, which was set to end in May 2026, into 2027.

New iPhone scam tricks owners into giving phones away

Getting a brand-new iPhone should be a moment you enjoy. You open the box. You power it on. Everything feels secure. Unfortunately, scammers know that moment too.

Over the past few weeks, we've heard from a number of people who received unexpected phone calls shortly after activating a new iPhone. The callers claimed to be from a major carrier. They said a shipping mistake was made. They insisted the phone needed to be returned right away. One message stood out because it shows exactly how convincing and aggressive this scam can be.

That second early morning call was the giveaway. Pressure is the scammer's favorite tool.

HOLIDAY DELIVERIES AND FAKE TRACKING TEXTS: HOW SCAMMERS TRACK YOU

This scam relies on timing and pressure. First, criminals focus on people who recently bought a new iPhone. That information often comes from data-broker sites, leaked purchase data or marketing lists sold online. Next, scammers spoof a carrier phone number. As a result, the call appears legitimate. They sound confident and informed because they already know the device model you ordered.

Once the call begins, the story moves quickly. The scammer claims a shipping mistake occurred. Then they insist the phone must be returned right away. To reinforce urgency, they say a courier is already scheduled. If you follow the instructions, you hand over a brand-new iPhone. At that point, the device is gone. The scammer either resells it or strips it for parts. By the time you realize something is wrong, recovery is unlikely.

This scam copies real customer service processes. Carriers do ship replacement phones. FedEx does handle returns. Gift cards are often used as apologies. Scammers blend those facts together and add urgency. They count on you acting before you verify. They also rely on one risky assumption, that a phone call that looks real must be real.

REAL APPLE SUPPORT EMAILS USED IN NEW PHISHING SCAM

Once you know what to watch for, the warning signs are clear.

• Unsolicited calls about returns you did not request

• Pressure to act fast

• Instructions to leave a phone outside

• Promises of gift cards for cooperation

• Follow-up calls to rush you

Legitimate carriers do not handle returns this way.

THE FAKE REFUND SCAM: WHY SCAMMERS LOVE HOLIDAY SHOPPERS

Protecting yourself starts with slowing things down. Scammers rely on speed and confusion. You win by pausing and verifying.

Hang up and contact the carrier using the number on your bill or the official website. If the issue is real, they will confirm it.

Legitimate returns use tracked shipping labels tied to your account. Carriers do not ask you to leave phones on porches or doorsteps.

Scammers rush you on purpose. Pressure shuts down careful thinking. Any demand for immediate action should raise concern.

Scammers often know what phone you bought because your personal data is widely available online. Data removal services help reduce your exposure by removing your information from data broker sites that criminals rely on. While no service can guarantee the complete removal of your data from the internet, a data removal service is really a smart choice. They aren't cheap, and neither is your privacy. These services do all the work for you by actively monitoring and systematically erasing your personal information from hundreds of websites. Strong antivirus software adds another layer of protection. Many antivirus tools help block scam calls, warn about phishing links and alert you to suspicious activity before damage is done.

The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have strong antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.

Keep voicemails, phone numbers and timestamps. This information helps carriers warn other customers and spot repeat scams.

Criminals reuse the same script again and again. A quick warning to friends or family could stop the next victim.

Scams aimed at new iPhone owners are getting more targeted and more aggressive. Criminals are timing their calls carefully and copying real carrier language. The simplest defense still works best. Verify before you act. If a call pressures you to rush or hand over a device, pause and contact the company directly. That one step can save you hundreds of dollars and a major headache.

If a carrier called you tomorrow claiming a mistake with your new phone, would you verify first or would urgency take over? Let us know by writing to us at Cyberguy.com.

Democrats warn Trump greenlighting Nvidia AI chip sales could boost China’s military edge

Congressional Democrats are voicing alarm at the fact that the U.S. might soon begin selling cutting-edge chips to one of its greatest geopolitical adversaries.

Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., joined by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., wrote a letter to Under Secretary for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler on Monday, demanding answers as to why the Trump administration had green-lit the sale of the H200 Chip to China.

"The President directing you to approve licenses of the H200 falls within a deeply concerning pattern that undercuts our nation’s security," the pair of Democrats wrote.

TRUMP SAYS EVERY AI PLANT BEING BUILT IN US WILL BE SELF-SUSTAINING WITH THEIR OWN ELECTRICITY

Meeks said the basis of his request is found in the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA), the 2018 law governing the federal government authority over technology-related exports. The ECRA states that the Department of Commerce must supply Congress with answers to concerns raised by the ranking member of the foreign affairs and armed services committees.

"In ECRA, Congress stated the policy of the United States is ‘to restrict the export of items which would make a significant contribution to the military potential of any other country,'" Meeks wrote.

"Approving licenses for items like NVIDIA’s H200 chips, which the Justice Department recently described as ‘integral to modern military applications,’ would be deeply at odds with the policy that Congress articulated in ECRA."

CHINA RACES AHEAD ON AI —TRUMP WARNS AMERICA CAN'T REGULATE ITSELF INTO DEFEAT

The H200 chip, one of the world’s most advanced computational devices, is NVIDIA’s crème of the crop. It plays a key role in the processing needed for increasingly sophisticated AI.

The company was first ordered to halt sales to China in 2022 under the Biden administration.

"The [government] indicated that the new license requirement will address the risk that the covered products may be used in, or diverted to, a ‘military end use’ or ‘military end user’ in China," the company said in a filing.

Like Meeks, several lawmakers worry that allowing their sale to China will only further empower an adversary that has had no qualms weaponizing technology. In recent years, Congress has banned the use of Chinese-made Huawei devices for government employees and, last year, passed a law forcing the divestment of TikTok, fearing China’s far-reaching insight through the data collected by the popular social media app.

To Meeks, the decision to resume sales of the H200 chip — to China and to other potential rivals — seems incongruent with that past wariness.

"Just last month, you approved the export of tens of thousands of advanced AI chips, worth an estimated $1 billion, to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, despite significant concerns about these countries’ human rights records and their close relationships with the [People’s Republic of China]," Meeks wrote.

KEVIN O'LEARY WARNS CHINA 'KICKING OUR HEINIES' IN AI RACE AS REGULATORY ROADBLOCKS STALL US

While some Republicans share Meeks’ hesitation, others have said that the Trump administration’s reversal fits into a larger plan to ensure American competitiveness in future years.

Meeks and Warren have requested answers from the administration about what factors led to the decision by Jan. 12, 2026.

Student loan defaults trigger paycheck garnishment as Trump admin ends COVID-era pause

The Department of Education will begin garnishing wages of those with defaulted federal student loans starting in January.

The Trump administration announced in May that it would resume collections on defaulted federal student loans — including wage garnishments and seizure of Social Security benefits — for the first time since 2020. In March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government paused referring federal student loans to collections.

Now, the Trump administration has said that it will introduce garnishing wages in early January after providing student and parent borrowers ample heads up to repay their debts. Garnishing wages means that the U.S. government is authorized to order employers to withhold up to 15% of their employees' wages after taxes, which would contribute toward paying off their student loans.

"We expect the first notices to be sent to approximately 1,000 defaulted borrowers the week of January 7, and the notices will increase in scale on a month-to-month basis," a Department of Education spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "All (Federal Student Aid) collections activities are required under the Higher Education Act of 1965 and Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996 and conducted only after student and parent borrowers have been provided sufficient notice and opportunity to repay their loans."

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION RELEASES OVER $6B IN FROZEN EDUCATION FUNDS TO THE STATES

Meanwhile, Democrats have sought to stop the Trump administration from garnishing wages for student loan borrowers. After the Trump administration announced in May it would resume collections, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., introduced legislation that would suspend the Department of Education’s ability to garnish wages, tax refunds, Social Security checks and other benefits.

TRUMP STILL NEEDS CONGRESS' HELP WITH PLAN TO ABOLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

"No one should have their hard-earned wages, tax refunds, and Social Security checks seized by Donald Trump—and our bill would ensure they do not," Pressley said in a statement in May. "The Trump Administration should not be in the business of picking the pockets of our most vulnerable borrowers, gutting the Department of Education or exacerbating the student debt crisis."

In May, the Trump administration said that approximately 43 million student borrowers had federal student loan debt, which translated to an outstanding federal student loan balance of $1.6 trillion.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has sought to overhaul and eliminate the Department of Education and shift its functions to other agencies. Should Trump successfully dissolve the Department of Education, he's indicated that an agency such as the Department of the Treasury could oversee student loans instead.

Jimmy Kimmel to take aim at 'fascism' in Britain's 'Alternative Christmas Message'

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is set to deliver Great Britain’s annual alternative Christmas message, a broadcast meant to counter the royal address from King Charles and, this year, take aim at "fascism."

"From a fascism perspective, this has been a really great year," Kimmel is slated to say, according to a press release from Britain's Channel 4, where the message will air on Christmas Day.

Kimmel's broader message will be more personal and reflective of the past year, in which ABC temporarily suspended his show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" after his remarks following conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination.

JIMMY KIMMEL CHOKES UP AS HE THANKS VIEWERS FOR SUPPORT AFTER 'HARD YEAR'

Channel 4's press release touched on the free speech debate that followed Kimmel's short-lived suspension over suggesting Kirk's alleged killer was a MAGA supporter, with a spokesperson for the outlet pointing to President Donald Trump and the broader impact on culture since his return to office.

"Donald Trump's return to the White House and wide-ranging impact on the world has been the story of 2025, and it would be hard to think of a better person to address it than Jimmy Kimmel, who has found himself on the frontline of America's battle over free speech," the spokesperson said.

Though Britain's alternative Christmas message is less known in the United States, the broadcast has become a tradition in the country since its inception in 1993, with various hosts offering sometimes humorous messages to counter the monarch's sober Christmas address.

According to the Times, Kimmel will not be the first American to present the message to Britons, noting that Jesse Jackson did it in 1994.

Other previous hosts have included whistleblower Edward Snowden, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Afghan war veteran Major Andrew Stockton, according to Channel 4.

Rapper Nicki Minaj teams up with new Turning Point USA leader Erika Kirk for Q&A session

Erika Kirk welcomed rapper Nicki Minaj as the surprise guest for a Q&A at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest on Sunday.

The "Beez in the Trap" singer previously teamed up with the Trump White House, speaking at the United Nations in November to raise awareness about persecution against Christians in Nigeria. Rumors had grown that Minaj would make an appearance at AmericaFest, but it was not confirmed until she went on stage Sunday.

"I'm honored to be here. I'm honored to be here," Minaj said after Kirk welcomed her to the stage.

She went on to praise both President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, saying they are politicians who have an "uncanny" ability to relate to the American people.

UN AMBASSADOR EXPLAINS HOW 'UNLIKELY' TEAM-UP WITH NICKI MINAJ CAME TOGETHER FOR GLOBAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM PUSH

"I love both of them," she said of the two leaders.

Despite previously supporting Democrats like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Minaj has increasingly shown support for Trump lately.

On Nov. 1, Minaj posted a screenshot of a Trump Truth Social post where he said, "Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria."

She wrote, "Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion."

Minaj continued, "We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice."

NICKI MINAJ TRANSFORMS FROM ‘QUEEN OF RAP’ TO TRUMP'S LEADING ALLY ON NIGERIA

She thanked the "President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer."

She has also repeatedly attacked California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his stance on transgender children.

Kirk has stepped in as the chairwoman and CEO of Turning Point USA since the murder of her husband, late Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk, in September.

Kirk spoke at the conservative AmFest on Thursday, telling the crowd, "Here’s what I’ve learned the most in these last three months is that my husband, he deeply mattered on a multitude of levels, so much so that it proved even more once he was assassinated, how much of a peacemaker he was and how much of a coalition builder he was."

She added that both her husband and she would choose fight mode over flight in any situation.

"You don’t retreat," she said. "Charlie would go wherever he needed to go, and I’m the same exact way … And you’ll learn that about me the more you get to know me. I know I’m new here, I’m new here, but you’ll learn."

Australian state weighs ban on 'globalize the intifada' chants, masked protesters in wake of Hanukkah attack

The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) is proposing a ban on chants of the phrase "globalize the intifada," which many consider to be an antisemitic call for violence against Jews.

This comes less than one week after a deadly mass shooting during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach that killed at least 15 people.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said that with the ban, police would be given more powers to demand that protesters remove face coverings during demonstrations, according to The Associated Press.

FORMER HAMAS HOSTAGE WARNED AUSTRALIAN LEADERS ABOUT DANGERS OF ANTISEMITISM MONTHS BEFORE BONDI BEACH ATTACK

"Hate speech or incitement of hatred has no place in our society," Minns said Saturday, the AP reported.

"Horrific, recent events have shown that the chant ‘globalize the intifada’ is hate speech and encourages violence in our community," Minns told reporters. "You’re running a very risky racket if you’re thinking of using that phrase."

The proposed ban would also prohibit public displays of ISIS flags or extremist symbols. Offenses could be punishable by up to two years in prison and can include fines, according to the AP.

AUSTRALIA MOVES TO TIGHTEN GUN LAWS AFTER HANUKKAH MASS SHOOTING LEAVES 15 DEAD AT BONDI BEACH

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Friday that intelligence further confirmed that the Bondi Beach shooting was inspired by ISIS.

"We’ve been informed that the Office of National Intelligence has identified a regular online video feed from ISIS that reinforces that this was an ISIS-inspired attack," Albanese told reporters, according to the Times of Israel. He also announced a gun buyback plan and a "day of reflection" following the deadly attack.

The announcement of NSW's proposed ban comes after Albanese pledged to introduce measures to curb radicalization and hate, including broadening the definition of hate speech offenses.

Australia had faced rising antisemitism prior to the attack at Bondi Beach, with a number of incidents occurring after Hamas' Oct. 7 attacks against Israel.

Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a prominent member of the Jewish community who was killed in the Bondi Beach attack, wrote a letter to Albanese about his concerns regarding rising antisemitism. Schlanger implored the prime minister "not to betray the Jewish people."

WWE legend leaving company over its ties with Trump administration

WWE legend Mick Foley announced on Tuesday he will be parting ways with the company over the promotion’s ties to President Donald Trump's administration.

When Trump returned to office, he named Linda McMahon the secretary of education. WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque was at the White House when Trump signed an executive order reestablishing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition and the Presidential Fitness Test.

"While I have been concerned about WWE‘s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months — especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who ‘looks like an immigrant’) — reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me," Foley wrote on Instagram.

Trump’s comments about Rob Reiner sparked backlash from GOP leaders on Monday.

'STAR-SPANGLED BANNER' BOOED HEAVILY AT WWE'S CROWN JEWEL IN AUSTRALIA

"I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy," Foley continued. "Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.

"Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.’"

Fox News Digital reached out to WWE for comment on Foley’s impending departure.

Foley was a three-time WWE champion who performed in multiple promotions and took many bumps off of a Hell in a Cell cage as he participated in brutal hardcore matches.

Trump played a role in WWE lore. His old Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was the sponsor for WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V, and he participated in a hair vs. hair match at WrestleMania 23 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Intelligence warned Australia of Iranian-linked terror activity months before Bondi attack, officials say

Senior Israeli intelligence officials say Australia was warned months in advance about the establishment of foreign-linked terror infrastructure on its soil, including activity aimed at Jewish communities, amid growing concerns about both Iranian-directed operations and a potential resurgence of ISIS in Syria.

According to a senior Israeli intelligence official who spoke on background with Fox News Digital, Israel’s foreign intelligence service provided Australian authorities with concrete warnings about what the official described as Iranian-directed terror activity operating inside Australia. The warning, the official said, was not about the Bondi Beach attack specifically, but about broader efforts to build terror networks with the intent of harming Jewish targets.

"We stopped a few ticking bombs," the official said. "The target was on people’s heads."

RABBI KILLED IN SYDNEY HANUKKAH ATTACK HAD WARNED AUSTRALIAN PM ABOUT RISING ANTISEMITISM

The official said Israeli intelligence identified Iranian guidance and coordination, including operatives allegedly possessing weapons and operating "in the center of Jewish communities," while remaining undetected by local authorities.

In the months preceding the Bondi Beach attack, the Australian government expelled Iran’s ambassador after its domestic security services publicly accused Iran of directing or enabling attacks against Jewish targets in Australia. Tehran rejected the allegations and denied involvement.

After the shooting, Iranian state media published an official condemnation of the attack, denouncing the killing of civilians and rejecting any connection between Iran and the violence. Australian officials said the investigation into the attack remains ongoing and have not attributed it to a foreign state. An intelligence source said we will know in the next few days if there has been such guidance.

The Israeli intelligence assessments align with warnings from a senior foreign diplomatic source, who described the current threat environment as being driven by a global contagion effect, in which extremist networks worldwide amplify and celebrate attacks, encouraging others to replicate them.

According to the diplomatic source, online jihadist ecosystems play a central role in accelerating this dynamic, rapidly turning incitement into action. From an operational standpoint, the source said such attacks are increasingly attractive to extremists because they are relatively simple to carry out while producing disproportionate impact.

AFTER AUSTRALIA’S HANUKKAH MASSACRE, CRITICS SAY APPEASING EXTREMISTS AFTER OCT 7 FUELED RISING ANTISEMITISM

Two sources cautioned that the threat extends beyond Jewish targets, warning that attacks against Christian communities are also plausible, particularly during overlapping Jewish and Christian holiday periods that tend to heighten extremist motivation.

The senior Israeli intelligence official said Australia is not an isolated case, describing what he said is a sharp global rise in Iranian-linked terror activity targeting Jews.

"Since the war, there is a huge rise in attempts by Iran to execute terror all over the world against Jews," the official said. "Not only Australia."

The official said Israeli intelligence has identified or disrupted similar activity in Europe, Africa and Asia, including Germany, Austria and multiple locations beyond the Middle East, as well as alleged plots in South America, India and Thailand.

"If you knew how many terror attacks the Mossad has prevented, you would drop your jaw," the official told Fox News Digital.

A second senior Israeli intelligence source said the threat landscape has worsened after two years of war in the Middle East, which the source said has energized radical Islamist movements globally.

ISRAEL UNMASKS IRAN-DIRECTED HAMAS CASH NETWORK IN TURKEY AS ANKARA PUSHES FOR GAZA ROLE

According to the source, the threat increasingly comes from lone actors or sleeper cells, which require minimal resources and are harder to detect, but can still cause mass casualties and inspire copycat attacks.

The source warned in particular about developments in Syria, saying the instability there could allow ISIS to regroup and reemerge, creating new waves of violence beyond the region. "I’m worried about Syria and that ISIS will return," the source said, while also warning that the recent attack in Australia could inspire further violence elsewhere.

The intelligence warnings resurfaced after a terror attack Sunday evening at a public Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most iconic and densely populated locations.

Australian authorities said two gunmen — a father and his adult son — opened fire on the beach, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens. Police said the father was killed at the scene, while the son was shot by officers and taken to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities classified the shooting as a terrorist attack targeting the Jewish community.

While Australian officials have not linked the Bondi Beach attack to foreign intelligence direction, the incident has intensified scrutiny of earlier warnings, the rise in antisemitic incidents nationwide and whether sufficient action was taken to disrupt emerging threats.

Australian leaders have condemned the attack, increased security around Jewish institutions and pledged to review counterterrorism measures.

Fake Windows update pushes malware in new ClickFix attack

Cybercriminals keep getting better at blending into the software you use every day.

Over the past few years, we've seen phishing pages that copy banking portals, fake browser alerts that claim your device is infected and "human verification" screens that push you to run commands you should never touch. The latest twist comes from the ongoing ClickFix campaign.

Instead of asking you to prove you are human, attackers now disguise themselves as a Windows update. It looks convincing enough that you might follow the instructions without thinking, which is exactly what they want.

Sign up for my FREE CyberGuy Report

NEW SCAM SENDS FAKE MICROSOFT 365 LOGIN PAGES

Researchers noticed that ClickFix has upgraded its old trick. The campaign used to rely on human verification pages, but now you get a full-screen Windows update screen that looks almost identical to the real thing. Joe Security showed how the page displays fake progress bars, familiar update messages and a prompt that tells you to complete a critical security update.

If you are on Windows, the site tells you to open the Run box, copy something from your clipboard and paste it in. That "something" is a command that silently downloads a malware dropper. The final payload is usually an infostealer, which steals passwords, cookies and other data from your machine.

NEW EMAIL SCAM USES HIDDEN CHARACTERS TO SLIP PAST FILTERS

The moment you paste the command, the infection chain begins. First, z file called mshta.exe reaches out to a remote server and grabs a script. To avoid detection, these URLs often use hex encoding for parts of the address and rotate their paths. The script then runs obfuscated PowerShell code filled with junk instructions to throw researchers off. Once PowerShell does its work, it decrypts a hidden .NET assembly that functions as the loader.

The loader hides its next stage inside what looks like a regular PNG file. ClickFix uses custom steganography, which is a technique that hides secret data inside normal-looking content. In this case, the malware sits inside the image's pixel data. The attackers tweak color values in certain pixels, especially in the red channel, to embed pieces of shellcode. When you view the image, everything appears normal.

The script knows exactly where the hidden data sits. It extracts the pixel values, decrypts them, and rebuilds the malware directly in memory. That means nothing obvious is written to disk. Security tools that rely on file scanning miss it, since the shellcode never appears as a standalone file.

Once rebuilt, the shellcode is injected into a trusted Windows process like explorer.exe. The attack uses familiar in-memory techniques such as VirtualAllocEx, WriteProcessMemory and CreateRemoteThread. Recent ClickFix activity has delivered infostealers like LummaC2 and updated versions of Rhadamanthys. These tools are built to harvest credentials and send them back to the attacker with very little noise.

The best way to stay protected is to slow down for a moment and follow a few steps that cut off these attacks before they start.

If any site tells you to paste a command into Run, PowerShell or Terminal, treat it as an immediate warning sign. Real operating system updates never require you to run commands from a webpage. When you run that command, you hand full control to the attacker. If something feels off, close the page and don't interact further.

Updates should only come from the Windows Settings app or through official system notifications. A browser tab or pop-up pretending to be a Windows update is always fake. If you see anything outside the normal update flow asking for your action, ignore it and check the real Windows Update page yourself.

Choose a security suite that can detect both file-based and in-memory threats. Stealthy attacks like ClickFix avoid leaving obvious files for scanners to pick up. Tools with behavioral detection, sandboxing and script monitoring give you a much better chance of spotting unusual activity early.

The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have strong antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.

Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices at Cyberguy.com.

Password managers create strong, unique passwords for every account you use. They also autofill only on legitimate websites, which helps you catch fake login pages. If a manager refuses to fill out your credentials, take a second look at the URL before entering anything manually.

Next, see if your email has been exposed in past breaches. Our No. 1 password manager pick includes a built-in breach scanner that checks whether your email address or passwords have appeared in known leaks. If you discover a match, immediately change any reused passwords and secure those accounts with new, unique credentials.

Many attacks start by targeting emails and personal details already exposed online. Data removal services help shrink your digital footprint by requesting takedowns from data broker sites that collect and sell your information. They can't erase everything, but reducing your exposure means fewer attackers have easy access to your details.

A convincing layout doesn't mean it is legitimate. Always look at the domain name first. If it doesn't match the official site or uses odd spelling or extra characters, close it. Attackers rely on the fact that people recognise a page's design but ignore the address bar.

Fake update pages often run in full-screen mode to hide the browser interface and make the page look like part of your computer. If a site suddenly goes full screen without your permission, exit with Esc or Alt+Tab. Once you're out, scan your system and don't return to that page.

ClickFix works because it leans on user interaction. Nothing happens unless you follow the instructions on the screen. That makes the fake Windows update page especially dangerous, because it taps into something most people trust. If you are used to Windows updates freezing your screen, you may not question a prompt that appears during the process. Cybercriminals know this. They copy trusted interfaces to lower your guard and then rely on you to run the final command. The technical tricks that follow are complex, but the starting point is simple. They need you to help them.

Do you ever copy commands from a website without thinking twice about what they do? Let us know by writing to us at Cyberguy.com.

Russell Wilson signals NFL future plans as Jaxson Dart emerges as Giants’ top option for next season

After a rocky one-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, Russell Wilson joined the New York Giants this past offseason. However, he was relegated to a backup role after just three games.

Rookie Jaxson Dart quickly showed promise once he had the chance to start, but his season was briefly derailed by injury. Jameis Winston — not Wilson — stepped in for Dart in a handful of games. Dart returned to the starting lineup in Week 13, casting more doubt on Wilson's future with the Giants.

Nevertheless, Wilson does not appear to be ready to call it quits in 2026.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

On Wednesday, Wilson replied to a social media user who declared, "2017-2020 Russell Wilson would be the best QB in the NFL if he played today."

IS EAGLES QB JALEN HURTS ON A SIMILAR CAREER PATH AS RUSSELL WILSON?

The statement was a response to a clip from FOX Sports’ daily morning program, "Wake Up Barstool," that debated whether Wilson's career shared similarities with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

"Man… I gotta get back to Ballin’ & being Me. Back to my First 10. It’s time. Time to go Dark," Wilson wrote on X.

Just three NFL seasons have passed since Wilson was among the highest-paid stars in league history. The Super Bowl winner appeared to be on the fast track to Canton for a Hall of Fame enshrinement shortly after he hung up his cleats.

In March 2022, the Seahawks traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos. His two-year stint in Denver was tumultuous.

Wilson has seen limited action following his latest benching. Barring a major roster shakeup or an injury crisis in the Giants' quarterback room, Wilson is on track to end the season with career lows in touchdowns and passing yards.

He has thrown for 831 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions over six games this season. The 37-year-old could draw interest from teams looking for a bridge quarterback, considering the expected limited number of available options in next offseason’s free-agent quarterback class.

Senate GOP barrels past blockade to advance nearly 100 Trump nominees

Senate Republicans rammed through the first procedural hurdle on their road to confirming nearly 100 of President Donald Trump's nominees on Wednesday.

The move tees up a later vote on 97 of Trump’s picks and marks the third time Senate Republicans advanced a bloc of the president’s nominees since changing the confirmation rules in September.

The final vote to confirm the latest tranche of picks is expected next week. Once Republicans clear this latest package, they will have confirmed over 400 of Trump’s picks during the first year of his second term.

DEM ATTEMPT TO THWART TRUMP NOMS BACKFIRES, REPUBLICANS TEE UP NEARLY 100 FOR CONFIRMATION

That benchmark would place him well ahead of former President Joe Biden, who at the same point in his presidency had 350 of his nominees confirmed.

Among the list of nominees are former Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., to serve as inspector general at the Department of Labor, and two picks for the National Labor Relations Board, James Murphy and Scott Mayer, among several others across nearly every federal agency.

SENATE CONFIRMS DOZENS OF TRUMP NOMINEES IN FIRST TEST OF NEW NUCLEAR RULES

The inclusion of Murphy and Mayer in the package comes after Trump fired National Labor Relations Board member Gwynne Wilcox, a move that was ultimately found to be legal by the Supreme Court earlier this year.

It’s also Senate Republicans’ second attempt to move this package after Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., objected last week in a bid to derail the process.

Senate Republicans went nuclear and changed the rules surrounding the confirmation process in a bid to break through Senate Democrats’ monthslong blockade of Trump’s nominees and limited the scope to only sub-Cabinet-level positions that would be advanced through a simple, 50-vote majority.

SENATE GOP LEADER MOVES TO LOWER FILIBUSTER THRESHOLD FOR TRUMP NOMINEES THROUGH NUCLEAR OPTION

But one of the nominees in the original package, Sara Carter, a former Fox News contributor whose legal name is Sara Bailey, was considered a "Level 1" nominee, meaning she would hold a Cabinet-level position.

Trump tapped Carter in March to be his drug czar as director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Carter’s inclusion in the package meant that if Republicans wanted to confirm the 87 other nominees and her, they would have to break the 60-vote filibuster threshold. That outcome was highly unlikely, given Senate Democrats' near-universal disapproval of several of Trump’s picks and accusations that many were not qualified to serve in the positions they had been tapped to fill.

Senate Republicans took advantage of the opportunity, however, and moved instead to offer a new, more beefed-up package that added nine more nominees.

MS-13 gang leader accused in murder of ex-Honduran president’s son arrested in Nebraska

An MS-13 leader believed to have overseen a kill squad for the bloodthirsty gang — and who is linked to the killing of the son of the former president of Honduras — was arrested in Nebraska on Monday, the agency said.

Gerson Emir Cuadra Soto, 33, aka "Fantasma," was taken into custody in Grand Island, 150 miles west of Omaha, on immigration-related charges, the FBI said Tuesday.

Cuadra is believed to have overseen "El Combo," an MS-13 kill squad designated to carry out assassinations on behalf of the gang. He has been charged in Honduras with four homicides, authorities said.

Authorities suspect he played a role in the July 2022 killing of Said Lobo Bonilla, the son of former Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Sosa. Bonilla and three other men were killed as they left a nightclub in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa.

Cuadra fled Honduras following the quadruple murder. He and two co-defendants were released from jail after government officials were paid $125,000 in bribes, federal prosecutors said, according to an unsealed affidavit.

Authorities allege that Cuadra entered the United States in November by crossing from Mexico into Texas and later obtained a California driver’s license.

Honduran authorities identified Cuadra as a close associate of Yulan Archaga Carias, known as "Porky," who is listed on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted fugitives list. Carias is believed to be MS-13's leader in Honduras and a voting member of the gang’s leadership group, "La Mesa."

He is charged by the Justice Department with racketeering conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and possession of and conspiracy to possess machine guns.

Despite Cuadra’s arrest on immigration charges, the FBI's Houston office, which led the investigation that resulted in his arrest, continues to investigate him for his alleged role as an MS-13 leader.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and to protect communities from violent crime.

Fox News Digital reached out to the FBI, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security for more information, but did not immediately receive a response.

In February, President Donald Trump designated several groups — mostly drug cartels, including MS-13 — as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, expanding the government’s ability to crack down on criminal groups operating in the U.S.

Murdaugh trial court clerk pleads guilty to showing sealed crime scene photos to photographer

A former South Carolina court clerk pleaded guilty Monday in connection with showing sealed court exhibits related to the murder trial of disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh to a photographer and lying about it in court.

Mary Rebecca "Becky" Hill, who served as the court clerk in Colleton County, pleaded guilty to four charges — obstruction of justice and perjury for showing a reporter photographs that were sealed court exhibits and then lying about it, plus two counts of misconduct in office for taking bonuses and promoting a book she wrote on the trial through her public office.

"There is no excuse for the mistakes I made. I’m ashamed of them and will carry that shame the rest of my life," Hill said in a statement read to the court.

She was sentenced to three years of probation.

Her sentence would have been much harsher had evidence surfaced that she tampered with the murder trial, Judge Heath Taylor told Hill.

During Murdaugjh's murder trial, Hill was responsible for taking care of the jury, overseeing exhibits and assisting the judge. Murdaugh was eventually convicted of murdering his wife and son after a six-week trial, which drew nationwide attention.

Murdaugh's lawyers said Hill tried to influence jurors to vote guilty and that she was biased against Murdaugh because of her book.

Solicitor Rick Hubbard told the judge that a journalist informed investigators that Hill showed graphic crime scene photos to several media members.

He did not name the journalist.

The photos were posted online, and the metadata from the images matched a time when Hill's courthouse key card indicated she was inside the locked room where the photos were kept, Hubbard said.

Hill resigned in March 2024. One of the charges against her stemmed from money prosecutors said she took for herself. She brought a check to court on Monday to repay nearly $10,000.

Meanwhile, Murdaugh is also serving a prison sentence for stealing money from his family's law firm and client settlements.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Murdaugh's attorney.
