Washington Nationals apologize to pitcher after firing director who admitted to religious discrimination

The Washington Nationals are in full damage control after an undercover journalist with the O’Keefe Media Group caught now former Director of Community Relations Sean Hudson claiming to be religiously discriminating against Catholic starting pitcher Trevor Williams.

On Friday, news broke that the team had fired Hudson. Later that evening, during pregame coverage of the Nationals vs. Padres game, which the Padres later won 7-5, President of Business Operations Jason Sinnarajah addressed the controversy stating, "First off, I want to say unequivocally we are not anti-Catholic."

Williams was said to be specifically targeted by Hudson because Williams opposed the anti-Catholic group, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, which was honored by the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2023 season. The group openly mocks Jesus Christ and many Christian and Catholic traditions. Hudson was caught on hidden camera saying, "The Dodgers had a group… who were drag queens who sometimes dressed up as nuns. He [Trevor Williams] went on social media like… 'This is my religion. You all are mocking it…' Because of that, we [Washington Nationals] don’t use him [Trevor Williams] on social [media]."

Sinnarajah emphasized his disgust with the claims made by Hudson adding, "We’re horrified by the comments made on the video. The comments don’t reflect us as an organization, our values and who we are. We took action right away, and the individual is no longer employed by the team."

Specifically speaking to the claims that the organization blackballed Williams from social media promotional material, Sinnarajah said, "I also want to take a minute to apologize to Trevor Williams… We feel awful that he’s been dragged into this situation" He added, "Trevor [Williams] is a valued member of the organization. We’ve been proud to support in both on and off the field."

Sinnarajah further refuted the claims made in the hidden camera footage stating, "We do not track people’s Google search history. We do not hide players from social media."

Following the news of Hudson’s firing, O’Keefe Media Group told me, "We are glad to see that Nationals fans are getting the accountability many of them have called for. No one should be discriminated against because of their religion, including Trevor Williams. The firing of Sean Hudson is only the first step toward accountability."

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON'T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

To the Nationals credit, the fact that they apologized at all, shows a stark comparison to the way the Los Angeles Dodgers handled the inviting, uninviting, and then re-inviting of the anti-Catholic group, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They never apologized to their fans, and even moved the recognition ceremony before the majority of fans entered the stadium in 2023.

Trevor Williams' only public comments on the situation were made in a humorous way through an Instagram post on Friday making light of Hudson's claim that the team didn't include him in a promotional video asking players if they believe a hot dog is a sandwich and a caption that stated that he is "closer than ever to getting back onto the mound at Nationals Park — and I cannot wait."

FBI seizes record-setting $8 billion in cryptocurrency amid intercontinental 'scam compound' crackdown

FIRST ON FOX — The FBI says it has seized a record-setting $8 billion in cryptocurrency and arrested hundreds of suspects as part of an intercontinental crackdown on "scam compounds" and organized crime, including one group known as the "Democratic Karen Benevolent Army."

They have been blamed for a global wave of theft from Americans, including as much as $3 million from a single U.S. citizen who fell victim to an online scam.

The FBI confiscated more than 127,000 bitcoin during the arrest of one leader, Chen Zhi, the CEO of a Cambodian enterprise called the Prince Holding Group. That's worth more than $8 billion — possibly more than $15 billion a the time of seizure — and officials are calling it the largest forfeiture in the history of the U.S. government's history.

The Democratic Karen Benevolent Army is an armed militia named after a region in Myanmar with alleged ties to the Chinese mob and currently facing sanctions from the U.S. Treasury for prior large scale scamming operations. It has been designated a transnational criminal organization by the government.

DEA, FBI SEIZE $10 MILLION IN CRYPTOCURRENCY 'DIRECTLY LINKED TO THE SINALOA CARTEL'

More compounds in Asia, Africa and the Middle East have allegedly been tied to Chinese organized crime and were specifically targeting Americans, and operations to dismantle additional centers remain underway globally, an FBI official told Fox News Digital Thursday.

"Scam compounds are not just call centers. They are organized criminal enterprises built to steal from Americans, launder money, and exploit people at scale," FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"The FBI has been leading the charge, from taking down Prince Group in Cambodia to Operation Sand Dollar in Dubai. We helped free nearly 2,000 trafficked workers, shut down more than $8 billion in scam center fraud, and arrested nearly 300 people," Patel said. "If you target Americans, we will find you, disrupt your network, and bring every available tool of the federal government down on you."

In Thailand, photos show the FBI seized thousands of smartphones, as well as office equipment from an operation there.

In Dubai, local police and the FBI arrested 275 people, six of whom will be extradited to the United States to face federal charges, the FBI said.

FBI RAIDS HOLLYWOOD MANSION IN $17.4M MORTGAGE SCAM TARGETING SENIORS, 11 ARRESTED INCLUDING IRANIAN NATIONAL

Each of the nine compounds raided there were allegedly taking in $6 million in fraud proceeds a year.

The Prince Group is accused of running similar guarded compounds around the world, authorities said.

Zhi faces federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.

An FBI official told Fox News Digital that the bureau has been prioritizing crackdown on these groups for the past 12 months.

The official said the $3 million case involved one person who was the victim of a romance scheme, noting that other fraud schemes have been linked to several suicides, historically including extortion cases that were mostly targeting teenagers.

Some of the groups allegedly relied on human trafficking victims for labor, according to the bureau. Scammers often entice individuals with promises of good income and work visas to lure them into the scam operations, then force them to conduct scams by threat of beatings or other torture methods.

CONNECTICUT MAN LOSES LIFE SAVINGS IN CRYPTO SCAM

The FBI partnered with Starlink, providing the Elon Musk-owned satellite company with geolocation data to help identify scammers using Starlink terminals to engage in fraud. Through the partnership, Starlink suspended more than 7,000 terminals in Myanmar, according to the bureau.

The operation sprung from a series of complaints the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received in 2025. Over the course of the year, IC3 received nearly 72,000 complaints detailing losses of more than $7.5 billion related to cryptocurrency investment fraud. The FBI estimates those figures wildly underrepresent actual losses.

An estimate from the United States Institute of Peace suggests that criminal syndicates steal approximately $64 billion every year.

The overarching Operation Blackout included at least four separate operations including the aforementioned investigation into the Prince Holding Group, called Operation Zephyr Exodus. Other operations included Operation Sand Dollar, an investigation targeting scam compounds operated by organized crime elements throughout Asia that preyed on American citizens in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Another operation was Operation Haochen, an investigation into the Tai Chang scam compound in Kyaukhat, Myanmar, an area controlled by the DKBA. The compound was allegedly connected to Chinese criminal actors. The FBI seized $30 million tied to Tai Chang and other scam compounds.

The Shunda Compound Takedown involved a joint task force including the FBI and Thai partners. The investigation led to the arrest of two subjects in Thailand and the seizure of a Telegram channel used to recruit forced labor into a Cambodian law enforcement impersonation scam.

The FBI also enacted a proactive measure, Operation Level Up, an initiative that identifies victims of cryptocurrency investment fraud and notifies them of scams. Through the operation, the FBI has already notified 8,935 victims, 77 percent of whom were unaware they were being scammed. The notifications have prevented $562 million in losses.

NHL betting outlook focuses on two teams more familiar with each other in Game 4, ready for scoring

In case you missed it last night, the Vegas Golden Knights punched their ticket into the Stanley Cup Finals. In doing so, they eliminated the expected champion, the Colorado Avalanche. In fact, they swept them. Now we are looking for who they will face in the Finals. That comes down to the Hurricanes or Canadiens, who will play at least five games. Tonight is Game 4.

The Carolina Hurricanes finally seem like they've broken down that wall that has hindered them for a few seasons. It is hard to say the Hurricanes have been disappointing because they've been one of the best teams in hockey for multiple seasons. Unfortunately, they kept coming up short in the postseason. It is too soon to say they've fully conquered the demons, but they are just two games away from getting to the Finals.

They had another great regular season, going 53-22-7 for the year, and they were very good on the road at 24-12-5. This postseason has seen a hot Hurricanes team. They are now 10-1 in the playoffs with the lone loss coming in Game 1. I won't exactly call them overly dominant, because half of their wins have needed overtime, but winning is winning, no matter how or when it happens. After a shaky Game 1, Frederik Andersen has allowed two goals in each of the past two wins.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE OUTKICK SPORTS COVERAGE

The Montreal Canadiens are behind in the series, but being down 2-1 isn't that much different than being down 1-0 in a series. That was the situation they found themselves in during their last series against the Buffalo Sabres. The Canadiens won three of the next four before ultimately winning that series in seven games. They've had some very close matchups in the postseason and have played significantly more hockey than their opponents. At a certain point, fatigue may catch up, and it feels like that is happening now.

The Canadiens have played 17 games in the postseason, and they've gone into overtime in seven of those games. That's a lot of hockey. Now they are facing a fast and talented Carolina team with a goalie who has played well lately. Jakob Dobes, the Canadiens' goalie, has been admirable. He has allowed eight goals this series, and only in Game 2 did he have a lower-than-average save percentage.

I wouldn't describe this game as a must-win situation for the Canadiens, but it is certainly an important one for them to take. The Hurricanes would definitely prefer to take this game because they have the momentum now and don't want to lose that for any reason.

I think this is a game where we will see the goalies crack a little bit. By now, both teams are comfortable facing each other. The Hurricanes have finally gotten less pressure on themselves and now can attack relentlessly, perhaps taking chances they wouldn't have previously. The Canadiens will have to be aggressive to tie it up. Give me the over 5.5.

Thekla weaves her way to AEW Double or Nothing win, retaining women's championship

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) women’s world champion Thekla seemingly had the odds stacked against her going into a four-way dance with her title on the line at Double or Nothing on Sunday.

Thekla squared off against Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida for the title. And quickly, her opponents jumped her as soon as the bell rang. The thinking was to keep the "Toxic Spider" in her own web while the other three tried to get the upper hand on each other.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON'T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

Statlander and Shida were more aligned with each other than Hayter was with anyone else. It didn’t last too long, though. Shida hit Statlander with a kendo stick to break up a pin attempt. Statlander and Shida then came to blows after Shida slapped her tag team partner across the face.

Thekla would not be deterred. Despite being pushed out of the match a few times, she bided her time until the right moment to strike. Hayter and Shida were outside of the ring and collided as they each tried to hit a double clothesline on each other.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

It was Thekla’s moment to shine with Statlander in the ring alone. Statlander was dazed and confused when Thekla nailed her with a nasty stomp. She pinned Statlander for the win to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship.

The Austrian-born AEW star won the title from Statlander on "Dynamite" in February. She’s since made six successful title defenses.

What’s next for Thekla is unclear. She suggested in the post-show scrum that she’s keeping a close eye on the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament and picked her Triangle of Madness teammate Skye Blue to win it.

Khanna torches Democrats for running 'status quo' candidates, admits working-class voters were ‘shafted’

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., said Sunday that Democrats have failed to connect with working-class voters because the party too often backed "status quo establishment candidates" unwilling to challenge what he described as a rigged economic system.

Speaking on "Meet the Press," Khanna weighed in on a newly released Democratic National Committee autopsy report examining the party’s 2024 election loss and broader struggles with voters.

"We do need to recognize that the status quo has failed," Khanna said. "This is a system that has created massive inequality. That the economy is lopsided and unfair, and it’s not working for many working-class and middle-class Americans. And too often we’ve run status quo establishment candidates who have been unwilling to call out an economic and political system that has failed."

DEMOCRATS IN RETREAT, WITH VOTERS SAYING THAT THE PARTY IS NO LONGER A ‘FRIEND OF THE WORKING CLASS’: REPORT

Khanna made the remarks after NBC's Kristen Welker cited a passage from the DNC report arguing Democrats have focused too heavily on "winning arguments" while Republicans focused on "winning elections."

The California Democrat rejected the idea that Democrats should abandon reasoned debate but acknowledged the party needs a stronger economic message aimed at voters struggling financially.

"I don’t think we need to give up reason," Khanna said. "I think more Americans probably want reason debate in this country."

DEM PARTY BLAME GAME: ACCUSATIONS FLY AS TO WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HARRIS' MASSIVE LOSS TO TRUMP

Khanna also reflected on former Vice President Kamala Harris and the report's conclusion that the White House did not do enough over several years to improve her standing before Democrats switched nominees.

"In retrospect, had she been in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio talking about the economy and been the lead for the president’s economic policies — the Inflation Reduction Act, the American Rescue Plan, the CHIPS Act — perhaps we would have done better," Khanna said.

Still, Khanna argued Democrats must now focus on rebuilding support among working-class voters heading into future elections.

"We need to have an economic message that actually is talking to the working-class folks who have been shafted," he said, "and that’s taking on a system that has been rigged."

DEMOCRATS' 'COMEBACK RETREAT' SUGGESTS PARTY TO 'EMBRACE PATRIOTISM' TO WIN BACK WORKING-CLASS VOTERS

Khanna also defended the DNC Chair Ken Martin as some Democrats call for his resignation following backlash over the handling of the autopsy report.

"No," Khanna said when asked whether Martin should step down.

Khanna pointed to Martin’s opposition to super PAC involvement in Democratic primaries and his criticism of superdelegates selecting party nominees as positions he supports.

"Ken Martin is a Paul Wellstone Democrat," Khanna said. "There are two things he’s done that I actually agree with."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

Khanna added that Martin could have handled the autopsy process better and should work more closely with state parties ahead of the 2026 and 2028 election cycles.

"Could he have handled this autopsy better? Absolutely," Khanna said. "Should he be working more with state parties to make sure they’re funded into ’26 and ’28? Absolutely. But I don’t believe he should resign."

The DNC report was commissioned after Democrats’ losses in the 2024 election cycle and was reportedly delayed before its public release amid internal disagreements over its findings and political fallout.

Liberal NY Times columnist roasts Dem election autopsy as 'ridiculous,' says AI could have done a better job

New York Times opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg blasted the Democratic National Committee’s long-awaited 2024 election autopsy Friday, deriding the report as "mysterious," "anticlimactic" and "ridiculous" after months of internal party drama over its release.

"The document, it’s now clear, was kept under wraps not because it was impolitic, but because it’s a disaster," Goldberg wrote, criticizing Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin for changing his rhetoric regarding the report.

"What’s most striking is its utter lack of substance," she continued, noting that the words "Israel" and "Gaza" appear nowhere in its 192 pages.

"It offers little insight into why the Democratic Party lost large numbers of Black and Latino men, or its failure to speak to disconnected, irregular voters... I wondered if it was written by A.I., though A.I. probably would’ve done a better job," she added.

DNC CHAIR RIPPED FOR DOWNPLAYING UNRELEASED 2024 AUTOPSY AFTER DEM LOSSES: 'SELF-INFLICTED CRISIS'

When vying for the DNC chairmanship, Martin ran on releasing the autopsy but, with time, said it would not be released after all.

The move, Goldberg said, made the report "an object of suspicion and fascination."

FORMER DEM MEGADONOR BLASTS 2024 AUTOPSY AS WASTE OF TIME, SAYS REASONS FOR LOSS ARE OBVIOUS

"Some thought he was protecting Kamala Harris ahead of 2028. Many progressives were convinced that the D.N.C. quashed the autopsy because it would show Harris was done in by Gaza. Rob Flaherty, who’d been deputy director of both the Harris and Joe Biden campaigns, speculated that it didn’t even exist," she wrote.

Over at The Washington Post, conservative opinion columnist Ramesh Ponnuru focused on what wasn’t in the report: "There’s nothing about President Joe Biden’s age and voters’ worries about it. Nothing about the border crisis the Democrats first caused through their policies and then denied in their rhetoric. Nothing about the party’s declining appeal to religiously observant voters. Nothing about the boutique left-wing views — such as support for taxpayer-funded sex changes for illegal immigrants and prisoners."

The report was ultimately released Thursday and initially covered by CNN, argues the party weakened its infrastructure through declining voter registration, cuts to state party support and a failure to listen to certain voter groups.

DEMOCRATS HAVE HIT 'ROCK BOTTOM,' PARTY LEADER SAYS; HERE'S HIS UNORTHODOX REBOUND PLAN

The report also notes that the party must have a renewed focus on voters in Middle America and the South.

It has already created internal tensions within the party, with Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin publicly distancing himself from the autopsy, saying it doesn’t meet his standards.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

"I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards," he said, adding that he could not "in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it."

He added that the report was released for the sake of transparency "as I received it – in its entirety, unedited and unabridged – with annotations for claims that couldn’t be verified."

Fox News Digital reached out to the DNC for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Dog saved from ISIS by Army veteran 'kidnapped' from family yard by local authorities

An 11-year-old dog that survived ISIS and helped a U.S. Army veteran during wartime is now being held at a Virginia animal shelter after being taken away by authorities. The family is asking the public for help as they await word on the dog’s fate.

Brendan Jones, a military veteran and Arabic linguist, rescued his dog Lucy while deployed in the Middle East. He said that after the birth of his son, he struggled with returning to deployment. Lucy changed that for him.

"That’s not the headspace you want when you’re overseas in danger. When you have to be focused on the mission," Jones said on "The Sean Hannity Show" Wednesday. "Lucy helped me get over that. Because she filled that void that was missing."

He found Lucy in 2015 while deployed near the border with Islamic State-controlled territory. In a post on X, he said he had to bribe a Jordanian officer to get the dog veterinary care before bringing her home.

US MARINE PROTECTED PUPPY WHILE DEPLOYED, NOW HOPES TO BRING HER HOME

But nearly a decade later, trouble with neighbors began after the family moved onto their multi-acre farm in Strasburg, Va. Dolly Jones, Brendan’s wife, said neighbors were upset with their way of life, and that the family has faced over a dozen police calls, multiple visits from authorities and court complaints over things like animal sounds.

"So when that incident with Lucy happened, that really was the weapon they needed to wield against us," Dolly Jones said.

The family said Lucy had been declared "dangerous" a year earlier after she nipped a passerby. They said the behavior was out of character for the dog, who had recently come out of surgery and was groggy.

PEANUT THE PET SQUIRREL TAKEN AWAY BY NEW YORK STATE OFFICIALS FROM ADOPTED HOME, MAY BE EUTHANIZED

Though they disagreed with the designation, the family said they went along with the demands to appease their neighbors. They said this unknowingly set up what they described as a legal trap.

Three weeks ago, Lucy temporarily slipped out of her collar while on a morning walk and barked at a neighbor. The family insists the dog never left their property and did not bite or touch anyone.

PEANUT THE SQUIRREL TOUCHES OFF SOCIAL MEDIA FIRESTORM AFTER NEW YORK OFFICIALS EUTHANIZE BELOVED RODENT

However, because of strict rules surrounding the dangerous dog registry, the incident allowed neighbors to call authorities. Hours later, the family said authorities removed Lucy from their property.

"When they actually came and kidnapped her off our property, the kids were outside playing and the cop came up and removed her from the field," she said. "They don’t remember a day without her. They miss her, asking questions to us if she’s going to be put down, and we’ve not had these answers for them."

Dolly Jones said the family has tried to get Lucy back and accused the neighbors of plotting against them, adding that they are fighting for their "rights to exist on our own property without fear."

The Jones family has launched the #SaveLucy campaign in hopes of saving the dog they’ve owned for more than a decade. "We're hoping that her life is bookended by miracles," Brendan said. "One to get her here, to save her from the Islamic State, and one to get her out of the hands of our own state."

Jeff Bezos confronted on Washington Post layoffs, argues paper must be profitable regardless of his wealth

Billionaire Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos on Wednesday responded to criticism of the brutal round of layoffs at his paper earlier this year, saying it needs to maintain relevancy and turn a profit regardless of his wealth.

Several departments were gutted, including its sports, metro and books sections, as well as its foreign correspondents and photojournalists. The massive headcount reduction stunned the media industry, although the paper's heavy financial losses were no secret.

Bezos sat down with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin, who bluntly asked, "The company laid off about 30 percent of its staff, and there are a lot of people out there who said, ‘Jeff’s super wealthy, he’s talked about this being a public trust, something that he bought early on, how much you care about that piece of it. Why lay people off? Why fire people? Why don’t you subsidize the business?"

"The Post needs to be a profitable enterprise that stands on its own two feet," Bezos shot back. The Amazon founder is among the world’s richest men with an estimated net worth of around $270 billion, according to Forbes.

WASHINGTON POST’S DAILY DIGITAL READER BASE SHRUNK DURING BIDEN YEARS BY NEARLY 90%, INTERNAL DATA REVEALS

"But does it? Some people say it should be a trust," Sorkin said.

"Let me tell you why. It’s a measure of its relevance. If people won’t pay for our product, it’s not a good enough product," Bezos said.

"It would be like poetry without rhyming. It’s too easy," Bezos added. "So, it’s got to be something that people will pay for, because that’s a signal. It’s a signal that we’re providing a relevant service."

Bezos then pointed out that The New York Times, where Sorkin also serves as a financial columnist, makes "a ton of money."

BEZOS DEFENDS WAPO ENDING PRESIDENTIAL ENDORSEMENTS AS THE 'RIGHT' CHOICE: 'I'M VERY PROUD OF THE DECISION'

"You guys are doing very well financially, and you’re providing a service that people are willing to pay for. We can do that, too," Bezos said.

"And guess what I told them when we were planning those layoffs. I didn’t pick who was going to get laid off or which departments. I said, ‘Follow the data,’" Bezos continued. "Follow the data, and I said there is one exception to this… don’t follow the data on investigative reporting."

Bezos said the "heart of the Post is investigative reporting," and suggested the unit will continue to thrive.

"Our newsroom today, after the layoffs, is still larger than when we did Watergate and the Pentagon Papers," Bezos said. "The Post is going to continue to be an important institution, in fact, it’s going to be a more important institution because of this financial discipline."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

Bezos pointed to a recent Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, which is considered the most prestigious of awards. The Post won the 2026 edition for in-depth coverage of the Trump administration's efforts to transform the federal government.

"It needs to be relevant to readers, it needs to stand on its own two feet," Bezos said.

Sorkin also asked Bezos point-blank if he wanted to own the paper.

"Do you want to own it? And the reason I ask is you’ve talked about how you are, by default, to some degree a conflicted owner, given you own all of these other businesses," the CNBC host asked.

"When I bought The Post, it was very unprofitable when I brought it. The newsroom was even smaller than it is today. We turned it around in two years, it was profitable for six years. I put all that money back in The Post and grew the newsroom, so we’ve shrunk it back some now. But we haven’t shrunk it back to what it was when I bought it," Bezos responded.

He said the Post didn't adapt, and the news environment has changed a lot over the years.

Bezos bought the Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million. The paper thrived during the first Trump administration, but it has struggled in recent years with subscriber losses and bruising layoffs.

Bezos took particular heat in 2024 when he yanked the liberal editorial board's planned endorsement of Kamala Harris, shortly before her loss to President Donald Trump.

JD Vance says Trump is 'locked and loaded' to restart military campaign against Iran if nuclear talks fail

Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that President Donald Trump is still pursuing a diplomatic deal with Iran but remains "locked and loaded" to restart the military campaign if nuclear talks collapse.

"It takes two to tango," Vance told reporters at a White House press briefing. "We are not going to have a deal that allows the Iranians to have a nuclear weapon.

"So as the president just told me, we're locked and loaded," Vance added. "We don't want to go down that pathway. But the president is willing and able to go down that pathway if we have to."

The administration sees two paths forward, according to Vance: a negotiated agreement that permanently blocks Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, or renewed U.S. military action.

VANCE WARNS IRAN THAT 'ANOTHER OPTION ON THE TABLE' IF NUCLEAR DEAL NOT REACHED

"We think the Iranians want to make a deal," Vance said. "The president of the United States has asked us to negotiate in good faith. And that’s exactly what we’ve done."

But Vance warned that diplomacy will not come at the cost of Trump’s core demand that Tehran never obtain a nuclear weapon.

"There’s an option B, and the option B is that we could restart the military campaign to continue to prosecute the case, to continue to try to achieve America’s objectives," Vance said. "But that’s not what the president wants. And I don’t think it’s what the Iranians want either."

TRUMP WARNS IRAN'S 'CLOCK IS TICKING': MOVE 'FAST' OR 'THERE WON'T BE ANYTHING LEFT'

The exchange came after Trump said he was just an hour away from ordering fresh attacks on Iran on Monday night.

"We were getting ready to do a very major attack [Tuesday], and I put it off for a little while — hopefully maybe forever," Trump said, "because we've had very big discussions with Iran, and we'll see what they amount to."

"There seems to be a very good chance that they can work something out," Trump told reporters at the White House. "If we can do that without bombing the hell out of them, I’d be very happy."

The announcement marked the latest shift in Trump’s handling of the fragile ceasefire reached in mid-April. For weeks, the president has warned Iran that fighting could resume if it did not accept a deal, while repeatedly setting deadlines and then backing away from them.

Over the weekend, Trump warned that "the Clock is Ticking" and said Iran needed to move "FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them."

Trump first disclosed the pause in a social media post Monday, saying he had ordered the U.S. military to be ready "to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice" if an acceptable deal is not reached.

Rescuers located the bodies of four Italian divers deep inside an underwater cave in the Maldives, days after the group vanished during a dangerous dive far beyond recreational limits, Italy’s Foreign Ministry said Monday.

Officials said Finnish cave-diving specialists found the bodies in the innermost section of the cave system in Vaavu Atoll, where the divers disappeared Thursday while exploring at a depth of about 160 feet. The recreational diving limit in the Maldives is 98 feet.

"As was previously thought, the four bodies were found inside the cave, not only inside the cave but well inside the cave into the third segment of the cave, which is the largest part," Maldives government spokesman Ahmed Shaam said, adding the victims were found "pretty much together."

The Thinwana Kandu cave system where the bodies were found is known locally as "shark cave."

RESCUE OPERATION FREES INJURED MAN TRAPPED 130 FEET UNDERGROUND IN ITALIAN CAVE

Recovery crews plan to retrieve two bodies Tuesday and the remaining two the following day, officials said.

The discovery came after authorities resumed the search following the death of a Maldivian military diver involved in the rescue mission. Mohamed Mahdi died Saturday from decompression sickness after attempting to reach the trapped divers.

A fifth Italian diver, identified earlier as a diving instructor, was previously found dead outside the cave.

BAGPIPER DIES DOING POPULAR VACATION ATTRACTION DAYS BEFORE MISSING SON’S REMAINS FOUND IN BACKYARD TREEHOUSE

The specialized Finnish team used advanced closed-circuit rebreather systems, allowing for longer and deeper dives in the cave’s confined environment.

Rough seas and hazardous underwater conditions repeatedly delayed search efforts as crews mapped and marked the cave entrance before pushing deeper inside.

Authorities continue to investigate the situation and what led to the divers' deaths.

Second FDA executive departing organization in less than a week as top drug regulator claims she was fired

Dr. Tracy Beth Høeg, former acting director of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), became the second high-ranking official to depart the FDA this week after claiming she was fired Friday.

Høeg's departure came after that of former FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, who publicly resigned Tuesday after rumors that President Donald Trump was unhappy with him swirled for days.

Høeg, who worked closely with Makary on regulating drugs before being elevated to CDER head in December, claimed she was forced out.

TRUMP'S FDA BOSS RESIGNING AS ADMIN TAPS NEXT ACTING LEADER

"I said I didn’t want to resign," Høeg told MD Reports in an interview published Friday. "I said I’m not signing a letter of resignation if it’s not my choice."

"They made it clear that it wasn’t their decision," she told the outlet. "They said it was from someone above them, from someone way above their pay grade."

TRUMP FDA OVERHAULS COVID-19 VACCINE APPROVAL TO FOCUS ON OLDER POPULATIONS, HIGH-RISK INDIVIDUALS

Høeg will be replaced by her former deputy, Dr. Mike Davis, according to an FDA email to staff obtained by The Associated Press.

While the White House has yet to officially comment on her departure, Høeg's exodus may be part of a larger shakeup following Makary's resignation.

In addition to Høeg, former director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) Katherine Szarama is also leaving, along with FDA Chief of Staff Jim Traficant, according to reporting from STAT News.

Fox News Digital contacted the White House, the FDA, HHS and Høeg for comment.

Hantavirus fears spark COVID flashbacks, but experts say there’s one major difference

Concerns about rising hantavirus cases has Americans reflecting on the coronavirus pandemic.

Although COVID-19 began with a foreign strain and spread rapidly around the world, experts say it’s not likely that hantavirus will behave the same way.

The rare Andes virus, which was linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak, is the only known hantavirus strain that has the capability to spread from person to person, usually through prolonged close contact.

RARE HANTAVIRUS HUMAN-TO-HUMAN TRANSMISSION SUSPECTED ON LUXURY CRUISE SHIP WHERE 3 HAVE DIED

Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel spoke with Fox News Digital about the similarities and differences between hantavirus and coronavirus, noting that there is "no comparison."

"You could say the comparison ends at that they're both single-stranded RNA viruses," he said. "That's a comparison, but [hantavirus] has been unchanged basically for decades."

Coronavirus was different because it began to mutate, which started to cause "all kinds of problems," Siegel noted.

"We don't know why it started to mutate, but this one doesn't appear to have done that," he said. "And every day that goes by seems to show that theory is correct – the genetics of it is the same."

DR MARC SIEGEL: HANTAVIRUS CRUISE OUTBREAK IS ALARMING BUT FEAR IS SPREADING FASTER THAN FACTS

"So, there's no comparison between these two viruses, other than that the single-stranded RNA viruses are both carried by animals."

Siegel added that COVID is an airborne virus, while hantavirus is mainly a secretion-borne virus, although it can be transmitted through dust and droppings in the air.

"It's not airborne ... in terms of respiratory droplets hanging in the air," he said. "It's very difficult to transmit."

While coronavirus "moved in the direction of humans in a significant way," hantavirus has not, except for "very rare" human-to-human transmission, according to the doctor.

There have been hantavirus cases in the U.S. for decades, although they are "very rare," Siegel noted.

Certain factors of this disease spread are changing, including warming temperatures that are causing rodents to migrate north toward Buenos Aires, according to the doctor.

DEADLY CRUISE VIRUS TIMELINE SHOWS HOW HANTAVIRUS SPREAD AMONG PASSENGERS

The current outbreak stemming from the cruise ship did not help the cause, Siegel went on — but this spread doesn’t suggest that the virus has changed. Rather, it shows how close quarters on a ship are "very conducive" to spread, he said.

"Every day that goes by shows that ... we're not seeing a second generation of spread," he reiterated.

The better comparison to make is between hantavirus and bird flu, which is a predominantly animal-based virus that "occasionally infects humans," Siegel said.

"There are billions of birds, and every year we talk about how it's going to cause a pandemic, but it would have to mutate significantly," he pointed out. "I feel that [hantavirus] would have to mutate significantly before it could go human to human in any significant way, because this is basically an animal virus … it's very comfortable inside a rodent host."

Siegel went on, "If you get this virus, you're in trouble, but getting this virus is very difficult."

Regarding fears that another global pandemic may be looming, Siegel said that just because one virus becomes widespread does not mean all viruses will.

"Coronaviruses are airborne anyway. This is not. And coronaviruses mutate a lot, and this does not," he said. "I'm much more concerned about flu than this. Flu can mutate all the time, and it's already going human to human all over the place, and it’s airborne."

"Most infectious disease specialists are much more worried about flu than this, as deadly as this can be," he added.

"We're talking apples and oranges, and any comparison you make after that provokes fear."

Five plead guilty to charges in brutal Cincinnati beatdown that went viral last summer

Five people have pleaded guilty in connection with the brutal beatdown in downtown Cincinnati that went viral last year.

On Monday, four of the five individuals pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from the fight, with a fifth person pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The charges stem from a violent fight that broke out on the corner of Fourth and Elm streets in downtown Cincinnati around 3 a.m. on July 26, 2025.

Defense attorneys for those charged have insisted the fight was sparked after one of the victims allegedly directed a racial slur at a member of the group.

BRUTAL DOWNTOWN BRAWL LEAVES VICTIMS BLOODIED AS CINCINNATI POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION

Video footage of the altercation subsequently went viral, with clips showing the moment a woman was thrown to the ground and knocked unconscious garnering millions of views throughout social media.

A man was also seen being knocked to the ground and struck more than two dozen times in the head.

Those who pleaded guilty to felony charges include Jermaine Mathews, 39; Montianez Merriweather, 35; Gregory Wright, 33; and Aisha Devaughn, 26, the Enquirer reported.

VIDEO OF RACIAL SLUR YELLED DURING THE BRUTAL CINCINNATI BEATDOWN EMERGES

Mathews reportedly faces the longest prison term of up to 4.5 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to aggravated rioting and attempted felonious assault. His defense attorney has previously said the racial slurs were directed at Mathews.

Surveillance footage shows Mathews approaching a man and punching him in the head. Minutes later, after the man appears to slap Mathews in the face, he is seen throwing the victim to the ground before punching and kicking him.

Merriweather and Devaughn pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and aggravated rioting, according to the outlet. They each face up to three years in prison.

ALLEGED CINCINNATI ATTACKERS WALK FREE AFTER BOND CUTS, POLICE HUNT EIGHTH SUSPECT

Wright, who was accused of ripping a chain from a victim’s neck after Mathews flung the man to the ground, reportedly pleaded guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor rioting, with the most serious charge carrying a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

Dekyra Vernon, 25, also reportedly pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges stemming from the fight.

Charges against two other defendants in the case — Patrick Rosemond, 39, and Dominique Kittle, 38 — remain pending, according to the Enquirer.

JD VANCE CONDEMNS 'DISGUSTING' CINCINNATI ATTACK, POINTS TO POLICE HIRING CRISIS IN BLUE CITIES

In March, an Ohio judge reportedly dismissed a disorderly conduct charge against a White man who authorities previously said was one of the victims.

The beatdown ignited allegations that the incident was racially motivated, with political leaders including Vice President JD Vance and Vivek Ramaswamy previously speaking out against the video after it went viral.

Those who pleaded guilty are set to be sentenced on May 19 and June 11.

Fox News Digital reached out to the attorneys for the defendants and the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office for comment.

Andes virus linked to cruise ship deaths raises concern over human-to-human spread

As health officials track the hantavirus outbreak that began on the MV Hondius cruise ship, attention is turning to the Andes virus, a rare strain from South America that is causing concern.

The virus stemming from the cruise ship, which has caused around eight cases and three deaths as of May 11, was identified by the World Health Organization as the Andes strain.

Unlike most forms of hantavirus, which spread from rodents to humans, Andes is the only strain that is able to transmit from person to person, heightening fears about how outbreaks could unfold under the right conditions.

DR MARC SIEGEL: HANTAVIRUS CRUISE OUTBREAK IS ALARMING BUT FEAR IS SPREADING FASTER THAN FACTS

"The Andes strain has been increasing recently as rodents migrate north toward Buenos Aires in hot, wet climate conditions," Dr. Marc Siegel, Fox News senior medical analyst, told Fox News Digital. "It is predominately a rodent virus – current sequencing shows no mutations so far."

The virus is endemic primarily in Argentina, Chile and parts of southern South America, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is primarily carried by a wild rodent species known as the long-tailed pygmy rice rat.

The Andes strain tends to cause more serious complications, including hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), according to Siegel.

WHAT IS HANTAVIRUS, THE CAUSE OF GENE HACKMAN’S WIFE’S DEATH?

HPS is a rare but severe respiratory disease that mainly affects the lungs, causing fluid buildup that makes it hard to breathe. It can quickly become life-threatening, with 38% of people who develop respiratory symptoms dying from the disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Early symptoms of HPS can include fatigue, fever and muscle aches, with about half of all patients also experiencing headaches, dizziness, chills and abdominal problems, like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, per the CDC.

Symptoms typically appear between four and 42 days after exposure. In most cases, only people with symptoms are able to spread the virus to others.

While the Andes virus does have the capability to spread person to person, Siegel noted that studies show it is still rare.

"There is currently no treatment or vaccine," the doctor noted. "The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases is working on monoclonal antibodies, and an MRNA vaccine is in the works."

Patients with the virus typically receive supportive care, including rest, hydration and medications to manage symptoms.

Health experts have shared that the Andes virus appears to spread much less efficiently than more contagious viruses like measles, influenza and COVID.

The CDC has stated that overall risk to the American public and travelers remains "extremely low."

"Andes virus testing is limited to people who have relevant symptoms and exposure history," the agency wrote. "If you think you had contact with a person with Andes virus and are experiencing symptoms, contact a medical professional or your state or local health department immediately."

CBS host gives Dem rep brutal reality check on DHS shutdown: 'You lost that fight'

CBS "Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan challenged Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu on the party's midterm election messaging, saying Democrats "lost" the fight over the record-setting Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

"OK, so you still believe that Democrats can retake the House?" Brennan asked Lieu, who represents California's 36th Congressional District. "What is your main message?"

"The American people voted in Donald Trump because they wanted lower costs and he lied to them," Lieu replied. "We have surging inflation, skyrocketing gas prices. The Trump tariffs have raised costs across many products across America. People are drowning in debt and in bills, and Democrats are going to reduce health care costs, lower costs across the board, reduce your energy costs. That's the message we're—"

"How are you going to do that?" Brennan interjected. "Democrats shut down the government to have an argument over health care, and they didn't get any policy concessions, and premiums went up. You lost that fight."

DEMOCRATS STRUGGLE FOR COHESIVE MESSAGING STRATEGY AMID SHUTDOWN STANDOFF

Lieu responded that the House passed an extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits for three years and urged the Senate to also pass that legislation.

Lieu added that "when we get control, we're going to reverse the massive Medicaid cuts, the Medicare cuts and the cuts to ACA that Trump and Republicans put in last year."

TRUMP ENDS DHS' MONTHS-LONG NIGHTMARE THAT LEFT IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT WITHOUT FUNDING

The DHS shutdown began Feb. 14. On April 30, President Donald Trump signed a bill funding much of the agency, ending a record-setting 75-day funding lapse.

Notably, however, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will remain unfunded under the current legislation.

Bobby Cox, legendary Atlanta Braves manager who led 1995 World Series champions, dead at 84

Famed Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has died at the age of 84, the team announced on Saturday.

The Braves said in a statement that their "treasured skipper" was the "best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform."

His Braves managerial legacy will never be matched. Bobby was a favorite among all in the baseball community, especially those who played for him. His wealth of knowledge on player development and the intricacies of managing the game were rewarded with the sport’s ultimate prize in 2014 – enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame," the Braves said.

"And while Bobby’s passion for the game was unparalleled, his love of baseball was exceeded only by his love for his family. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we send our sincerest condolences to his beloved wife, Pam, and their loving children and grandchildren."

Cox's 2,504 wins as a manager are the fourth-most in MLB history, behind only Connie Mack, Tony La Russa and John McGraw.

Cox has two stints with the Braves, the first of which began in 1978 and ended three years later. After managing the Toronto Blue Jays from 1982 to 1985, he returned to Atlanta for the 1990 season, where he stayed for 21 seasons.

BREWERS' FLAMETHROWER JACOB MISIOROWSKI LIGHTS UP RECORD BOOKS WITH TRIPLE-DIGIT SPEEDS IN GEM VS YANKEES

He was named the Manager of the Year four times and was one of two managers, along with Kevin Cash, to win it in back-to-back seasons. His No. 6 was retired by the Braves in 2011, shortly after his final season with the club.

Cox was the first-base coach for the New York Yankees when they won the World Series in 1977, but he was of course much better known for the world title that was brought to Atlanta in 1995.

During his second stint with Atlanta, he led the team to 14 division titles and making each postseason from 1991 to 2005 (there was no postseason in the strike-shortened 1994 season, but the Braves were 68-46 and in second place behind the Montreal Expos).

The Braves made five World Series under Cox, who also held the MLB record for most ejections.

He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Swing-district Republican breaks with Trump, pushes limits on Iran war

A House Republican facing a tough re-election fight is moving to impose strict limits on the Iran war, breaking with the Trump administration’s claim that hostilities have ended.

Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Mich., introduced a resolution Thursday that would authorize the war through the end of July to permanently degrade Iran’s nuclear program, address "imminent threats," enforce a naval blockade and ensure safe passage of U.S. ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

But the measure would also set stringent guidelines on prolonged military operations by limiting boots on the ground and prohibiting "nation-building" or occupying or seizing Iranian territory.

"Two things have been clear from the very beginning: Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and the United States of America cannot be dragged into another endless war," Barrett, an Army veteran who served multiple tours in the Middle East, said. "The commander in chief has the sole authority to lead our troops in wartime, but I’ve lost too many friends on the battlefield to allow that to happen without Congress exercising its constitutional role to clearly define the mission with safeguards and a deadline."

REPUBLICANS HAND TRUMP THE WHEEL ON IRAN — BUT ONE RED LINE EMERGES

"If we don’t learn from our foreign policy failures of the past, we are bound to repeat them," he added.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has also vowed to introduce a similar measure in the upper chamber authorizing the use of military force within strict boundaries, which she has described as a "restraint" on Trump.

Barrett’s measure follows the White House largely shrugging off a 60-day deadline to end the war on Friday by arguing that the ceasefire that began on April 7 effectively stopped the clock on the 1973 War Powers Resolution’s countdown. Under the war powers provision, the administration is required to end hostilities within 60 to 90 days absent congressional approval.

"For War Powers Resolution purposes, the hostilities that began on Saturday, February 28 have terminated," a senior administration official told Fox News Digital last week.

"Both parties agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, April 7 that has since been extended," the official continued. "There has been no exchange of fire between U.S. Armed Forces and Iran since Tuesday, April 7."

A press release issued by Barrett’s office stated that "U.S. military operations are ongoing."

TRUMP ‘RIGHT TO BE OUTRAGED’ BY EUROPE’S BETRAYAL ON IRAN, SAYS FORMER THATCHER ADVISOR

Secretary of State Marco Rubio argued Tuesday that the 1973 War Powers Resolution is unconstitutional, and the administration was only complying with parts of it out of respect for Congress.

"We comply with it in terms of, like, notification because we want to preserve good relations with Congress," Rubio told reporters during a news conference. "And we do that."

Trump has repeatedly extended the ceasefire with Iran as both parties are working with mediators to permanently end the war.

Barrett’s resolution would also allow for an additional 30-day "wind-down period" if the Trump administration intended to extend hostilities past the July 30 deadline.

The resolution comes as Barrett, a freshman lawmaker representing a Lansing-area district, is facing a potentially bruising re-election bid ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Bridget Brink, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine under former President Joe Biden, and retired Navy SEAL Matt Maasdam are vying in a crowded Democratic primary to unseat Barrett in the swing seat.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates his re-election bid as a "toss-up."

It is unclear whether Barrett will join Democrats in supporting a war powers resolution that would block military action against Iran absent congressional approval when lawmakers return to Washington next week.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Brief alcohol ban in Damascus sparks concerns about President al-Sharaa's vision for Syria

There are growing fears among some in Syria that the government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa has the aim of clamping down on the rights and freedoms of its civilians by promoting a more conservative interpretation of Islam.

Local authorities in Syria’s capital, Damascus, recently banned restaurants and bars from selling alcohol in most parts of the city. Only venues in the majority-Christian neighborhoods of Damascus would be allowed to continue to sell alcohol, but only for takeaway. The move sparked minor protests throughout the capital, with security forces sent in to maintain order.

"What you're seeing is pressure from one part of Syrian society, the clerics and sort of harder-line Islamists who have a vision, an Islamist vision of how Syrian society should be," Robert Ford, former ambassador to Syria, told Fox News Digital. Syria's temporary constitution is guided by Islamic law.

EVANGELICAL LEADER SAYS US MUST PROTECT SYRIAN CHRISTIANS FROM ATTACKS BY JIHADI TERRORISTS

Syria’s social affairs minister, Hind Kabawat, a Christian and the only woman in al-Sharaa’s cabinet, pushed back on the idea that alcohol can only be consumed in Christian neighborhoods.

"Our neighborhoods are not places for alcohol, but the heart of Damascus," she said in a Facebook post.

"The strength of our nation is in its diversity, and any radical, extremist voice will cause our nation's weakness," she added.

In response to the outcry, Damascus authorities walked back the ban, saying that alcohol purchases could remain in places important for tourism, such as hotels and certain restaurants.

The move is a significant departure for everyday Syrians living in Damascus, where alcohol was readily available in bars and restaurants for decades, even under the authoritarian and oppressive rule of former dictator Bashar al-Assad.

SYRIA GRANTED SANCTIONS WAIVER BY TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO ENCOURAGE REBUILDING

"Steps like these, which restrict freedoms in Syria, are worrying. When they have occurred far from Damascus, the central government can argue that it lacks sufficient control. But it is particularly meaningful to see such steps in Damascus since President al-Sharaa dominates there," Mara Karlin, a former Department of Defense official and professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), told Fox News Digital.

"If he is pushing an Islamist Syria, then it calls into question how much he is moving beyond his history," Karlin added.

Al-Sharaa, who led the Islamist rebel group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) to victory over Assad, has been on an international charm offensive since taking power, visiting foreign capitals and reintegrating Syria into the global community.

President Trump even endorsed al-Sharaa, who first met with him in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in May 2025 and again in November 2025 when Trump hosted him at the White House, the first time a Syrian leader had visited the White House since the country gained independence in 1946.

Karlin, who testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee in February on the challenges facing Syria after the fall of Assad, said that, while the Syrian government does include former jihadists, they have been mostly pragmatic and non-ideological in their governance.

She noted, however, that their reach beyond Damascus is weak and limited.

"There have been some troubling instances of restrictions on women’s freedom, for example, and indicators such as these merit close scrutiny for evidence of the Syrian government’s influence and ideology."

TRUMP ORDERS COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL OF ALL TROOPS FROM SYRIA WITHIN TWO MONTHS: REPORT

Ford, who was the last U.S. ambassador in Damascus in 2011, stressed that al-Sharaa is not a democrat and probably would like to impose parts of an Islamist vision on Syria, but has so far held back since overthrowing the Assad regime in 2024.

The ordinances in Damascus and elsewhere are imposed by local officials, but these officials are directly tied to the government and are loyal to al-Sharaa and likely support an Islamist vision for Syria.

Some worry the ban on alcohol could harm Syria’s fragile post-conflict reconstruction, particularly at a time when al-Sharaa is trying to reintegrate Syria into the world economy and rebuild the country’s tourism sector.

The World Bank estimated Syria’s reconstruction costs are about $216 billion after nearly 14 years of civil war. Syria’s minister of tourism previously said the country will need at least $100 million over the next seven years to rebuild the tourism industry.

Alcohol isn’t the only target of some local authorities in Syria. Officials in the port city of Latakia in February banned women from wearing makeup at work. Another town outside Damascus prohibited men from working in female clothing stores to uphold public decency.

Ford said although some of the local ordinances are a cause for concern, it is a domestic issue, and Syrians will have to determine the role of religion in post-Assad Syria.

THE Associated Press contributed to this article.

David Beckham shows off his abs in shirtless workout session with wife Victoria

Victoria Beckham gave her husband David Beckham some credit during a recent couple's workout session, posting a video on her Instagram stories of the dad of four doing pull-ups shirtless as she watched, writing, "He actually does work really hard."

She kept the compliments going by posting a shirtless photo of the athlete laughing as he lounged shirtless in the gym, telling her fans, "you're welcome," before keeping him grounded with a photo of herself stretching, asking, "But can he do this??"

The former Spice Girl later playfully pokes fun at him.

In the Instagram post, Victoria can be seen showing off her toned arms and strength as she did a number of pull-ups. David's voice can be heard behind the camera telling his wife how great her hair looked, as he slowly zoomed in on her backside.
