Nancy Guthrie's front door blood evidence points to ‘single abductor’: former FBI profiler

The blood spatter on Nancy Guthrie's front porch suggests a single abductor took her out of her home, according to a former FBI profiler.

"If there was no blood spatter pattern inside the house, then outside by the front door or while she was going through the door this is where she put up a fight or refused to go any further," retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent Jim Clemente told Fox News Digital Monday.

"This is where she was assaulted. Most likely struck in the nose or mouth. She fell to her knees or on the ground, aspirated, then coughed up blood, which also dripped around the same spot."

Guthrie is the 84-year-old mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie. She had lived in her home in Tucson's Catalina Foothills neighborhood for decades before vanishing under suspicious circumstances on Feb. 1.

Sources with knowledge of the case previously told Fox News Digital there were no signs of a struggle inside. A masked intruder appeared on doorbell camera video taken at Guthrie's front porch, and her back door was found propped open. Authorities have said they have not ruled out the possibility that multiple people could have been involved in her suspected kidnapping.

Clemente said he believes her abductor then carried her away with her face up, which limited additional blood spatter. Video taken after local authorities released the crime scene shows a concentration of blood drops near the mat at her front door. The trail grows thin and ends where her front walkway meets the edge of the driveway.

"It rules out more than one person because if two people had control of her as they were leaving the house she would never have fallen to the ground," he said. "They would have been in control of her body and prevented her from resisting and fighting and falling after she was struck in the face."

She likely had her face down near the front door where images show the most blood, he said.

"The larger droplets are low-velocity blood spatter that fell directly out of her mouth," he said. "Her face was facing downward when she coughed up the medium velocity small droplets, and it was within inches of the ground facing straight down."

There's no indication of "cast off" blood spatter, he said, which appears when blood is flung off of a moving object.

"The lack of directionality of the blood splatter says that those drops fell straight down, and she wasn’t moving fast," he said. "So there is a contradiction in the evidence. I believe this was caused by the fact that she was carried from that first location to the car with her face up so only a minimum amount of blood was deposited on the walkway."

He said it doesn't look like she was dragged and believes she had been struck in the face with a fist or possibly the butt of the suspect's handgun.

"This was not done very quickly because if it had been, the blood should’ve had a tail moving the direction that she was traveling," he said.

Dr. Michael Baden, a famed forensic pathologist, previously told Fox News Digital he suspected the blood drops came from Guthrie's hands or face.

"The nature of the blood spots with little pale centers or donut shapes are typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they're mixed with air," he said in February.

"These are not innocent droplets," he added. "From the shape, number of droplets and the place of the droplets outside the house on the porch, they are entirely consistent and indicative of occurring during an abduction." 

Anyone with information is asked to dial 1-800-CALL-FBI. There is a combined reward of more than $1.2 million for information that cracks the case.

Valerie Bertinelli says she missed narcissistic red flags in relationships: 'Made me question my self-worth'

Making it clear she’s in no rush to get back onto the dating scene, Valerie Bertinelli explained this week that she now actively looks for narcissism "red flags" when meeting men.

In her "Getting Naked" podcast on Wednesday titled "Know Your Narcissist," Bertinelli revealed that she didn’t even realize she was dealing with narcissism in her own romantic relationships until several years ago after first recognizing it in the fraught political climate.

"I don’t want to throw anybody that’s been in my life under a bus, I just want to talk about experiences that have been challenging and made me question my self-worth," the "One Day at a Time" star told her guest Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a psychologist and author.

"When we know who we are, Valerie, when someone is coming at us like the way that narcissistic people do, we can be a lot more steadfast," the doctor advised. "The only way a narcissistic relationship works is if we abandon ourselves."

Bertinelli agreed with her assessment, admitting that in the narcissistic relationships she’d been involved in, "I totally abandoned myself to a point where my family was like ‘Where are you? We need you? Come back to us.’"

She said while she was in the relationships, she didn’t feel that way.

"You feel truly like you’re just going to make this person happy," the 66-year-old explained. "You know you can do it. ‘I know I can make them happy. I know if I work hard enough, I can make them happy. I know that I don’t want to be selfish. I don’t want to hurt them, so if they’re telling me that I’m doing these things. I can make myself better.’"

When Durvasula noted that it’s human to want "intimate relationships," Bertinelli joked: "Well, I did. I'm not so much want[ing] that right now."

Durvasula revealed that "a lot of the core of narcissism is this insecurity, this fragility."

Bertinelli interjected to say that the narcissists she’s known, though, "seem like they're not insecure. They're so like — it's magnetizing to see someone that sure of themselves," and Durvasula explained that narcissists "are good at what we call expressed self-confidence," essentially being know-it-alls.

The doctor further explained that the traits of a narcissist encompass low empathy, arrogance, entitlement, grandiosity and pathological selfishness.

"They can only center [around] themselves," she added. "They're status seeking. So, they want whatever is going to make them look powerful to the world. They are not able to tolerate things like frustration, disappointment, stress, or anything that doesn't sort of prop up that grandiose sort of fantasy of them. They're driven very much by power, domination, control. They need to be the ones on top."

And those traits, she explained, show up as "manipulation, invalidation, dismissiveness, gaslighting, rage, silent treatment, competitiveness, making us small so they can feel big, betrayal, promising things that they never follow through on."

Prefacing her analysis of her own past relationships with "I can only speak about my own experience and being very careful not to," Bertinelli said: "I would never ever think that that person had any of those traits, but the way that they showed up was, oh boy, all of the things you said."

She added that she wanted her podcast to help people from "falling into that trap."

"I have a little joke that it's just like, ‘OK, somebody's got to tell me every single different kind of narcissist there is out there because I need to know what to not fall into.’" she said. "Again, I even talked to my therapist. I said, 'Please tell me what red flags are exactly so I can keep an eye out for them.'"

She noted that in a past relationship someone she didn’t name had repeatedly told her she was a narcissist and that she was hurting them.

"And I was like, ‘Well, I don't want to be hurting people. I don't want to be selfish. I don't want to do all these things. Please, God, tell me.’ And I'm like, at a certain point, I said: ‘I don't understand why you're with me. Like I can't do anything right,’" she said.

But the doctor explained to her that person was manipulating her.

"‘You will be lovable if you do the things I'm telling you to do,’" she said a narcissist would tell her. "That's the twist."

Bertinelli also suggested the person had told her she prioritizes her son, Wolfgang Van Halen, too much, which Durvasula described as a great example of low empathy, when a romantic partner can’t understand that a relationship with your child is a different kind of love.

She added that when Bertinelli thought she was building intimacy with the person by opening up, "you were basically filling an armory with weapons that they were going to use against you."

Bertinelli said now if she sees any sign of "love bombing," where people flatter the other person to manipulate them, she can’t tell if it’s genuine affection or not.

"Because there is a point where like getting love notes or being spoken beautifully to and telling — like there's a point of letting someone know how you feel about them, and then there's the love bombing and the like it get moving fast," she said.

The doctor replied: "Idealization is not a place for a relationship to start. And to all you romantics out there, suck it because I'm going to tell you right now, it is just not."

Bertinelli also specified the "insidious" isolation she had experienced in a relationship.

"It starts — it's not ‘Don't see your family.’ It's when you are with your family, they'll be constantly texting and constantly and starting an argument through texts and calling. And I'm like, ‘I can't talk right now,’" which she said left her feeling like she couldn’t see her family because it upset her significant other.

After breaking up with her boyfriend of 10 months in late 2024, following her divorce from her second husband in 2022, Bertinelli explained at the Los Angeles Time Festival of Books last weekend that she was "really scared of dating right now."

She continued, "I've had, you know, two — I'm just scared."

Bertinelli told Fox News Digital at the panel that she realized for the first time through writing her memoir, "Getting Naked," "I didn't give myself enough credit for the strength I already had inside me. And that I'm — that I don't have to listen to people be negative to me."

The star said that she was "surprised that I was able to learn that. Finally! That I don't have to listen to people be horrible to me. I don't have to tolerate intolerable behavior."

She added to Fox News Digital that when she wrote her 2022 book "Enough Already" she thought she had learned that lesson, "but I still put up with intolerable behavior after that."

"It wasn't until I really dug down and got to the root of my shame and the dark side that I made friends with it," she said. "Then I thought, ‘Now I'm done. Now I can just say, f--- you. That's it, I'm done. I'm out,’ you know?"

After divorcing her first husband, Eddie Van Halen, in 2007, she married businessman Tom Vitale in 2010. At the end of their marriage, Bertinelli began to refer to Vitale as "the narcissist," saying that he emotionally abused her, calling her "fat and lazy."

She also called being officially divorced from Vitale the "second-best day of my life."

Bertinelli began dating writer Mike Goodnough in 2024 and said she was in love, but by year’s end, the relationship had fizzled.

Russell Brand’s ‘awkward’ Bible moment goes viral, sparks online mockery, support

Embattled comic actor Russell Brand faced a firestorm of online criticism, but also support, after a lengthy, "awkward" search for a Bible passage on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" went viral.

"Can I go back to asking a question about your Bible?" Morgan asked, referencing one that Brand had brought onto the set of the show.

"Yes, if you want to," Brand replied.

Morgan then asked if the Bible was the same one he brought into his sexual assault and rape hearing.

When Brand confirmed the question, Morgan asked another:

"What was your thinking of taking it into court, and what you were seeing, looking at some passages, what were the relevant passages for you?"

He proceeded to thumb through the Bible's pages, searching for a verse from Isaiah, but to no immediate avail.

Silence lingered as his search continued for approximately a minute and a half. Morgan said nothing while Brand repeatedly explained that the verse he sought came from the Old Testament book.

As he ended his search, Brand settled on a different verse from Isaiah chapter 12.

"I can’t actually find the verse that I had that day, but this is good enough," he said, proceeding to read Isaiah 12:1-2.

"I will praise you Lord, although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me," he said.

"Surely God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself is my strength and my defense."

The incident caused a stir on X, with one user accusing Brand of using the Bible as a "PR shield."

"It’s a miracle of biblical proportions," the user wrote.

"For decades, Russell Brand played the high priest of hedonism and ego, but the moment the law comes knocking for rape and systemic abuse, he suddenly finds Jesus. This 'conversion' doesn’t smell of incense; it reeks of pure, unadulterated desperation..."

"I haven't laughed so hard from someone's bulls---," said another, tacking on a trio of laughing emojis.

A third added in part, "The clip is pretty awkward to watch... it does raise fair questions about public faith declarations during personal crises. What do you think—genuine spiritual moment or convenient optics?"

A fourth X user called the incident a "painful watch," and another chimed in with, "Lmao embarrassing. Another example of how people use religion as a prop."

Others, including many Christians, rushed to Brand's defense amid the mockery, including some who said they also cannot easily locate book, chapter and verse upon request.

"I pray Russell doesn't take any of the criticism to heart. he's trying to figure things out while having all eyes on him. immense pressure for the guy who chose the path less wandered," one supporter wrote.

"This is disingenuous!" said another.

"I am reading the Bible for the first time. There are verses that touch and hold but as a new believer I do not know exactly [which] verse. I can still be a follower and believer but can’t recite chapter and verse."

Another comment, translated from Spanish, asked, "Do the media really have the right to judge someone's morality before a judge does?"

One commenter defended Brand by encouraging viewers to watch the entire episode, pointing out that he quoted another verse by memory. That was Isaiah 43:19: "See, I am doing a new thing."

"Writing in Bibles is TINY. Russell’s faith may be the only thing keeping him going. Think of his wife and small children. Think of all the people he helped get off drugs. Wait for the jury to decide his fate. Let’s not break God's commandments by bearing false witness. CONTEXT matters."

The incident comes as Brand faces a flurry of criticism over sexual assault allegations.

Brand recently admitted that he had what he called "exploitative" but consensual sex with a 16-year-old girl.

Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, 67, hospitalized after medical emergency: report

Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was hospitalized on Friday, TMZ reported.

The New York Giants legend suffered a medical emergency in New Jersey, warranting the visit, the outlet said.

Taylor's status is unclear, but TMZ said that it does not appear to be serious, citing "those close to" him.

Taylor's former Giants did not immediately respond to an email.

L.T. is widely regarded as the greatest linebacker to ever play. He was a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, including in his rookie season.

Twerking in class and calling herself a 'million-dollar prostitute' are signs something's up with the sub

A substitute teacher in Lake County, Florida, had to be restrained and escorted out of a Lake Minneola High School classroom on Monday after "acting erratically" during class, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The school resource officer received an alert around 10:20 a.m. and arrived in the classroom to find the substitute teacher, Angela Faith Jourdan, yelling "incoherently" and saying that they should "put her in prison for life," according to News 6.

The sub was reportedly not following the lesson plan for the day at all. Instead, she was, according to investigators, slamming her hands on a desk and making inappropriate comments to the students.

But that's not all she was supposedly up to while tasked with molding the minds of the youth. Deputies say she was "twerking" in the classroom and referring to herself as a "million dollar prostitute."

That's where some more of the inappropriate comments come into play. She allegedly told students she would have sex with them. Again, I can confidently say, none of this was in the lesson plan for Monday morning.

As if this wasn’t already enough of a disruption to the normal morning routine at the high school, the sub, who won't be up for any teacher of the year awards anytime soon, refused to leave the classroom on her own.

The LCSO's report states, "Assistant Principal Pannett entered and instructed Ms. Jourdan to gather her belongings and leave the classroom. Ms. Jourdan refused, stating that she did not want to be (Tasered)."

Jourdan was restrained and escorted to the office while investigators learned of a claim by one of the students that she had battered her. The student says she was yelled at, called a derogatory name and had the teacher's hands placed on her neck.

I can’t state this enough: that too, was not in the lesson plan for the day.

Jourdan was arrested and fired by Lake County Schools. She faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, simple battery and two counts of disruption of a school function.

Woman opens fire on Maryland gas station clerk during attempted robbery

The Howard County Police Department in Maryland released surveillance footage of a suspect opening fire inside a gas station during what investigators believe to have been an attempted robbery.

In the footage, which does not include any sound, the woman can be seen holding the gun and speaking before eventually shooting.

The incident occurred on Friday. The police shared the video on Monday, offering up to $2,500 for information that leads to the suspect.

CBS host presses former AG Eric Holder on defending partisan redistricting efforts in Virginia

CBS anchor Margaret Brennan pressed Eric Holder on Sunday over whether Democratic-backed redistricting efforts in Virginia amount to partisan "stacking the deck," as the former Barack Obama official defended the proposal as a response to Republican-led map drawing nationwide during an appearance on "Face the Nation."

"So by holding this referendum and changing the maps, how do you guarantee that this is temporary and that this doesn’t keep happening?" Brennan asked, after questioning how drawing maps along partisan lines is not simply "stacking the deck."

Holder, who chairs the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, framed the push as part of a broader effort to counter Republican gains in states such as Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri.

"This is really a national fight. It’s not a fight only about Virginia," Holder said. "What Virginia is doing, what California did is only in response to that which Republicans started in Texas."

Holder responded that the current proposal is limited in scope and tied directly to voter approval.

"The measure itself says that it is time-limited," Holder said. "It is only for this cycle, an additional cycle, and after the census that could be changed again."

Brennan further pressed whether the move signaled Democrats lacked confidence in winning under current conditions, noting historical midterm trends and political headwinds facing the president’s party.

Holder rejected that characterization, framing the effort as a necessary countermeasure.

"The Democrats can certainly win if it’s a fair fight," Holder said. "It wasn’t going to be a fair fight nationally if you try to steal seats in Texas, in North Carolina, and in Missouri."

Brennan also cited Holder’s past statements opposing partisan gerrymandering, including warnings that it leads to governments that do not reflect voter preferences and contributes to political gridlock.

"If we don’t respond to that which they are trying to do, we could lose our democracy," Holder said. "And not have the ability to get back to that fairness fight."

Brennan also raised criticism from redistricting advocates, including concerns that proposed maps in Virginia could dilute Black political influence.

"What’s in this for us?" Brennan said, referencing criticism from the National Black Nonpartisan Redistricting Organization.

"That’s simply untrue," Holder responded. "Do you think that another two years of unchecked Trump power is in the best interest of African-Americans in this nation? No."

"I hope we’ll pass federal legislation that will ban partisan gerrymandering just outright and do away with this altogether," Holder said.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sidestepped questions Sunday about whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should challenge Sen. Chuck Schumer, declining to take a position amid growing debate over Democratic leadership.

"I have to be honest with you," he told NBC's Kristen Welker. "This is another question that gets into the future," Mamdani said when asked if Schumer should step aside as Senate Democratic leader.

The exchange unfolded as divisions within the Democratic Party have intensified over generational change, with progressives increasingly raising the prospect of Ocasio-Cortez mounting a primary challenge against Schumer, who has led Senate Democrats for years.

When pressed directly on whether he supported such a challenge, Mamdani avoided endorsing the idea while praising Ocasio-Cortez.

While he has denied the allegations of misconduct, he has admitted to making mistakes in the past.

"I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past," Swalwell said in a statement announcing his resignation.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating the multiple allegations against Swalwell, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to Fox News Digital.

District attorneys for both Los Angeles and New York have also launched their own respective investigations.

Legal representation for Swalwell did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Orioles lose controversial challenge after Coby Mayo unintentionally triggers review

The Baltimore Orioles fell victim to an accidental challenge.

In the second inning of the Orioles’ 8-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, third baseman Coby Mayo was forced to challenge a pitch he didn’t want to.

Mayo took a 3-0 pitch from Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodríguez on the outside and began walking toward first base, thinking he had a walk. Instead, home plate umpire John Tumpane called it a strike.

Mayo expressed his displeasure with the call and raised his right hand toward his helmet, but did not tap his head, as he did not want to challenge the pitch. Tumpane thought he did indeed challenge the pitch and initiated a review.

The call was confirmed to be a strike as Mayo argued he did not challenge the call. The Orioles ended up losing the challenge, one of their two on the day. A replay confirmed that Mayo never actually touched his head.

Mayo’s unintentional challenge is one of a few that have occurred so far this season. Last week, Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Nick Gonzales challenged a pitch but immediately tried to reverse his decision, as the team only had one challenge left.

Gonzales ended up winning the challenge, and the Pirates retained their last challenge.

Mayo and the Orioles (9-9) will hope they don’t have any more ABS snafus when they play the Cleveland Guardians (10-9) on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. ET.

Pakistani general says Iran diplomacy still alive, despite US blockade, failed talks

The United States began enforcing a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic Monday, sharply escalating tensions in the Gulf just hours after high-level talks in Pakistan between Washington and Tehran collapsed without a deal.

The move, announced by President Donald Trump, came after negotiations in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough, despite what participants described as rare direct engagement between the two sides.

But Lt. Gen. (ret.) Mohammed Saeed, former chief of general staff of the Pakistan Army, said in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital that the talks came far closer to success than their outcome suggests — and argued that diplomacy is still within reach.

"Both sides are saying they were very close … even inches away from a solution," he said based on his own knowledge and reports. Saeed retired in 2023 but remained part of the core team handling operational planning, internal security coordination, and sensitive periods of political tension.

"They talked to each other in a very friendly manner. There was, from both sides, an expression of accommodation and understanding from each other. So, what you can briefly say is that the engagement has sufficient potential to resume."

Speaking at the White House Monday, Trump defended the blockade, saying, "Right now, there’s no fighting. Right now, we have a blockade … Iran is doing absolutely no business, and we’re going to keep it that way very easily."

He added that Iran’s military capabilities had been significantly degraded, saying its "Navy has gone, their air force is gone, their anti-aircraft is gone, their radar is gone and their leaders are gone."

Vice President JD Vance, who led the U.S. delegation, pressed Iran to accept a strict "zero enrichment" policy and remove its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. 

"The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon," Vance said at a press conference in Islamabad.

Iranian leaders rejected those demands, insisting that any agreement must include the immediate release of billions of dollars in frozen assets.

Now, with the blockade in place, Saeed suggested the move may be designed less as a military endgame and more as leverage.

"This blockade could be … a maneuver to build further pressure on Iran to negotiate," he said.

The escalation has raised concerns globally, particularly for countries dependent on Gulf energy flows, including Pakistan.

"Everyone in the world must be worried about what kind of economic negative spin-offs such a blockade would have," Saeed said.

Saeed, who until recently sat at the center of Pakistan’s military leadership, framed the Islamabad talks as a critical reopening of dialogue after decades of hostility.

"It is the first time in 47 years … that there was engagement at the highest level," he said, calling it "a great moment for diplomacy" and a demonstration of Pakistan’s ability to maintain credibility with both Washington and Tehran.

He pointed in particular to Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, a figure who has drawn unusual attention in Washington. 

Trump has publicly praised Munir, at one point calling him his "favorite field marshal," elevating his profile as a key intermediary in regional diplomacy.

Munir, who rose through Pakistan’s intelligence ranks before becoming army chief, previously served as director general of military intelligence and later led the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). His career has been defined by deep involvement in regional security and intelligence coordination, including longstanding engagement with Iran.

Those ties could prove critical in the current crisis, according to Saeed. 

"What people do not know is that when he was director general of military intelligence … he was interacting with Iranians at multiple levels continuously," Saeed said, describing years of direct engagement with Iran’s military, intelligence and political leadership, including former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. strike during Trump’s first term.

"He has had interaction with them for a long time … visiting Iran frequently and interacting on multiple issues," Saeed said, adding that many current Iranian officials would already be familiar with Munir from earlier roles.

That continuity, he argued, gives Pakistan a rare advantage at a moment when formal diplomatic channels are strained.

"What one can say is that he continues to be one figure internationally who has a personal interaction … in the intelligence community in Iran in the military hierarchy and also on the side of the political leadership," Saeed said.

"So that’s a huge advantage he has on the other side."

For Pakistan, that personal access — combined with its simultaneous relationship with Washington — has become central to its effort to position itself as a credible intermediary, even as the region edges closer to confrontation.

At the same time, Pakistan’s role as a mediator has drawn scrutiny, particularly given its longstanding position on Israel and recent inflammatory remarks by senior officials.

When asked whether Pakistan can be seen as a neutral broker while not recognizing Israel — an actor directly involved in strikes on Iran — Saeed downplayed the issue, saying Israel was not part of the diplomatic track.

"Pakistan’s position with regard to relations with Israel has been consistent since our independence," he said, adding that Islamabad’s mediation efforts were focused solely on Washington and Tehran.

"Neither of their representatives was on the table … Pakistan was mediating between the U.S. and Iran," he said.

Despite the current escalation, Saeed maintained that diplomatic channels remain open.

"There is a lot of space … for resuming the process," he said, suggesting talks could restart in Islamabad or elsewhere if both sides shift course.

"On Pakistan's side, from my personal knowledge of the field marshal, they are relentless. They would not give up. They must not have given up. They must be continuously in touch with both sides. And they would try their best to convince both sides that the blockade is not going to be in their interest, in the interest of the region and in the interest of the international community."

Chicago suburb locals hope reparations addresses 'affordability pressures' as Black population dwindles

Residents of a Chicago suburb hope its local reparations program "could alleviate affordability pressures" as the Black population dwindles in the city, according to a new report.

The Evanston Daily, a news outlet that covers Evanston, spoke with locals about housing affordability amid a "Black exodus," raising concern from residents.

"It’s become more about green than Black," community activist Meleika Gardner told the Daily. "It’s about the money and who can afford to stay here."

Rev. Michael C. R. Nabors, the president of Evanston’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, believes the city is "losing a stock of our diversity."

"We have not been able to replace Blacks who are moving because housing has just gone up out of this world," Nabors said.

"Beyond zoning, some community members told The Daily the city’s reparations program could also help alleviate affordability pressures. Nabors said the program is a ‘major, important first step’ to address population shifts," the outlet reported.

Evanston issued $25,000 to 44 residents in reparations payments, the City’s Reparations Committee announced in February. So far, at least 137 people have received reparations payments totaling $3.47 million, and more are expected by year’s end, reaching 171 recipients with about $4 million allocated to direct descendants.

REPARATIONS ADVOCATES PUSH FOR PAYMENTS TO BLACK AMERICANS DESPITE BUDGET AND LEGAL CHALLENGES

The program, which launched in 2019 to address past racial housing discrimination, provides $25,000 direct cash payments to Black residents and descendants of Black residents who lived in Evanston between 1919 and 1969. Evanston was the first U.S. city to pass a reparations plan, pledging $10 million over a decade to Black residents.

"Millions of those dollars now are being used to support Black families in Evanston that have been damaged by historical racism related to housing," Nabors added. 

However, one resident disagreed with the reparations program. Darlene Cannon told the Daily that the program is "not repairing anything."

"We had redlining here, and my family was forced to live in the 2nd Ward instead of being given an option to live in the 6th or 7th Ward," Cannon said. "Twenty-five thousand dollars doesn’t make up for the true damage that was caused."

"Still, Nabors said he sees reparations as the beginning of a ‘cooperation’ between Black residents and city developers and officials. Going forward, he said building multi-unit properties could help Black residents stay in Evanston," the Daily reported.

Evanston officials did not respond to a request for comment.

ILLINOIS REPARATIONS COMMISSION RELEASES LENGTHY REPORT OF STATE'S 'HARMS' AGAINST BLACK CITIZENS

The future of Evanston’s reparations program is in question as the city faces a lawsuit that was recently given the green light to proceed, overcoming the defendant’s case to dismiss the matter. 

Conservative group Judicial Watch represents five plaintiffs who allege the program violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. They filed the lawsuit against the reparations program over its use of race as an eligibility requirement. 

The city reacted to the judge's ruling in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"The city is aware of the court’s recent ruling. The city will continue to vehemently defend this case," a spokesperson for the city said.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has launched a community engagement effort called "Repair Chicago" to gather experiences of harm of Black Chicagoans as part of an effort to implement reparations.

An ordained Christian minister running for U.S. Congress in Iowa penned an opinion piece sharing how the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — carried out by radical Islamic terrorists — made her more "aware" of the "rising anti-Muslim bigotry and its harm."

Sarah Trone Garriott is one of three Democratic candidates vying for the battleground seat held by Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa.

Garriott, an Iowa state legislator and Lutheran minister, wrote the opinion piece for the Iowa Capital Dispatch in response to the "hateful messages" she received after she shared a prayer with Arabic words written by a Muslim woman on the statehouse floor in February 2021.

"They said horrible stereotypical things about my Muslim neighbors — Sharia law, hating freedom, violent religion," Garriott wrote. "There were others who made comments about the United States being a Judeo-Christian country and therefore Muslim prayers were not welcome. There were some attacks against me, as a Christian leader I was leading people astray, that I didn’t know what I was doing."

She said the pushback "convinced" her there is a greater need for "religious diversity."

Garriott revealed that she began her master's degree in theological studies at Harvard University a day after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"On that religiously diverse campus, I was more aware of the rising anti-Muslim bigotry and its harm," Garriott wrote. "I am kind a biblical literalist, and when Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers, I took that to heart. I worked with my Muslim classmates to organize a meal to bring the community together during Ramadan."

Meanwhile, Nunn had "a different response" to the 9/11 terrorist attacks by joining the Air Force, according to Nunn's spokesperson, Mark Matava. During his service, he "flew more than a hundred combat missions to defend America."

"Sarah Trone Garriott has called Christianity 'threatening,' mocked parents for protecting their daughters, and accused Christian schools of being 'white enclaves,'" Matava said. "Now we learn that her response to the deadliest attack on American soil was to lecture Americans about bigotry without so much as mentioning the nearly 3,000 people who were killed on 9/11. Her contempt for Iowa and America is on full display."

Iowa GOP spokesperson Jade Cichy also criticized Garriott for not mentioning the thousands of American victims killed on 9/11.

"Radical woke warrior Sarah Trone Garriott’s main concern after the September 11th terror attacks was ‘anti-Muslim bigotry,’ and she made no mention of the thousands of innocent Americans who lost their lives that day," Cichy said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "This stunning display of tone-deaf political pandering is just the latest example showing Trone Garriott is out of touch with Iowa values."

Republican National Committee spokesman Zach Kraft said she is "insulting Iowa values" by pandering to "coastal elite Democrat Party bosses."

"Sarah Trone Garriott should be ashamed for wagging her finger at America for not being woke enough about 9/11 and completely ignoring the more than 2,000 patriots tragically killed that day," Kraft said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Iowa GOP spokesperson Jade Cichy called Garriott's "tone-deaf political pandering."

Fox News Digital reported last month on a 2023 speech given by Garriott in which she criticized Christian displays at political rallies, calling it one of several "pretty uncomfortable ways that faith and political power have collided."

Fox News Digital reached out to Garriott for comment.

Spencer Pratt accuses LA Times journalist of 'phone-stalking' his family as mayoral campaign gains steam

Spencer Pratt lashed out at the Los Angeles Times and a rival mayoral candidate, accusing a reporter of harassing his family and trying to expose where his children live as his campaign gains traction in the polls.

Pratt alleged the reporting crossed a line, accusing a Los Angeles Times journalist of reaching out to his wife, sister, mother and even a restaurant he frequents to track down details about his family. He claimed this all happened after he passed Los Angeles Council member Nithya Raman in a recent poll.

"Creepy LA Times 'journalist' has been phone-stalking & harassing my sister, my wife, my MOM, and even my favorite burrito restaurant trying to dox where my kids sleep and go to school, all because I pulled ahead of Nithya Raman in the polls, and she sent her lapdog to do her dirty work," Pratt wrote on X.

"That’s what they call 'journalism' at the LA Times, folks!" he added. "They’re scared of our campaign. We’re gonna take back our city, and they know they can’t stop us."

Pratt, who gained fame with Heidi Montag on "The Hills," shared a lengthy video claiming he has the "winning message" and that Raman is "panicking." The reality TV star also took aim at the Los Angeles Times for writing a story titled, "Spencer Pratt’s move to Santa Barbara County after his Palisades house burned raises eligibility questions in L.A. mayor’s race."

"They want to try to write a hit piece about me, about my residency, because I've had my family sheltered up in my dad's rental home in [Santa Barbara] and they want to attack me for not living in the Palisades while running for mayor?" he said. "Hey, brain surgeon! My house burned down. You guys let my entire neighborhood burn down, remember? The burned out lot I own in the Palisades is still my legal residence where we are trying to rebuild in the face of Karen Basura (Bass) and Nithya Raman and our broken city leadership putting up every hurdle imaginable to make it harder and harder for us to rebuild."

"Don't forget. I made the choice to run for mayor three months ago," he added. "You see schemers like Raman and Basura (Bass) and their media sickos can't fathom that I didn't have some grand scheme to run for mayor like these slimy career politicians. I didn't plan any of this. I wasn't thinking, 'I really need to make sure I stay in the zip code in case I run for mayor.' I was just trying to find the safest place to go where I could try and give my kids the most normal life that I could after these clowns nearly destroyed our life as we knew it."

A Los Angeles Times spokesperson told Fox News Digital: "The Times learned that Mr. Pratt was living in Carpinteria, and contacted him and those around him for comment. We stand by our story and the reporting of our journalists."

Pratt, who lost his home in the deadly 2025 Palisades wildfire, announced he was running for mayor on Jan. 7.

Pratt told the crowd at a fire anniversary event that "this just isn’t a campaign, this is a mission. And we are going to expose the system." The event, called "They Let Us Burn!," was a rally critical of state and local government’s handling of the Jan. 7 wildfire that killed 12 people and destroyed thousands of homes.

In the aftermath of the fire, Pratt emerged as an outspoken critic of Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, and said they failed to prevent the blaze. He has since sued the city of Los Angeles. The complaint blames Los Angeles and its municipal water department for the water issues that hampered firefighting efforts and says it ultimately led to the damage to their properties.

Officials slam hospital food as health experts demand menu overhaul: 'Farm to gurney'

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is pushing to expand the Dietary Guidelines for Americans into hospitals, integrating federal nutrition standards into patient care.

On March 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), led by Dr. Mehmet Oz, sent a memo directing hospitals to align their meals with the guidelines by reducing ultraprocessed foods, sugar-sweetened beverages, refined carbohydrates and added sugars.

Kennedy reportedly shared that Oz’s memo effectively acts like a federal mandate, as hospitals may need to follow the dietary guidelines to maintain funding.

Most hospital menus rely heavily on convenience foods, according to Dr. Hamid Khan, chief medical officer of Jorie AI, a healthcare revenue service.

"Patients are often served items such as pasta, processed deli meats, packaged snacks with artificial components, sugary desserts, cereals, juice and soda," he told Fox News Digital. 

"Although many hospitals have begun the implementation of 'healthier options,' the average menu still tends to prioritize low cost, long shelf life and ease of preparation over nutrition."

Larger concerns include high sugar and sodium levels, processed ingredients and refined carbohydrates in hospital foods, Khan said. "There seems to be a lack of high-quality protein, fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy fats," he added.

Khan said he has seen patients order their meals from Grubhub, DoorDash or Uber Eats because they felt the hospital menu options were not healthy enough.

"Most of the hospital meals do not provide adequate nutrients … to properly support healing, muscle maintenance, immunity or overall recovery," he told Fox News Digital.

"Poor nutrition only makes things worse for this patient pool," Khan went on. "Ultimately, poor nutrition is very harmful for elderly patients and people with chronic illnesses. They are at a higher risk for muscle loss, weakness, delayed healing, infection and re-infection."

Celebrity chef and restaurateur Geoffrey Zakarian is partnering with Tampa General Hospital in Florida to transform hospital dining, introducing Mediterranean diet–inspired meals for patients.

Zakarian told Fox News Digital that hospital food is often a mix of "high desire, low-value and low-nutrition food," typically priced to meet a strict per-plate cost that hospitals cannot exceed.

"[There is] very little emphasis on original, pasture-raised proteins and fats like eggs, whole dairy grass-fed beef and poultry, and unprocessed vegetables," he said.

In Tampa, Zakarian has been working since 2023 to eliminate all processed foods — removing items containing hormones, added sugars, seed oils and anything prepackaged.

"All the food originates from farms and gardens in and around Tampa," he said, calling the mission "Farm to Gurney."

Sec. Kennedy and CMS administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced a similar initiative at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami.

Vani Hari, known as the "Food Babe," told Fox News Digital that this is the first time leaders in Washington are openly acknowledging that food is medicine.

"The fact that they had to send a memo reminding hospitals of that tells you everything about how broken the system is," said Hari, who is based in North Carolina. "People are at their most vulnerable in a hospital bed – and for decades, nobody in charge seemed to care what they were eating."

Medicare and Medicaid fund the majority of inpatient services, including at least half of inpatient days at 96% of hospitals and two-thirds or more at 80% of hospitals, according to the American Hospital Association (AHA).

An AHA spokesperson told Fox News Digital that hospitals recognize nutritious food is an essential part of healing and recovery. 

"They are deeply committed to providing patients with high‑quality, nutritious meals that meet clinical standards, individual dietary needs and federal guidance," said the spokesperson.

Hospital teams collaborate with registered dietitians and clinical staff to make sure each patient receives meals tailored to their medical needs and recovery plan, according to the AHA.

The spokesperson also said the organization regularly evaluates current evidence-based nutrition recommendations and integrates them into meal programs.

"Beyond the hospital walls, we partner with community organizations to expand access to nutritious food, provide education on healthy eating, and support initiatives that promote long‑term wellness," they added.

Airman rescue shows US can penetrate enemy territory 'anywhere' in Iran, former Pentagon official warns

A former Pentagon official said the rescue of a U.S. airman in Iran served as more than a recovery mission, saying it was a warning to Tehran that the United States can penetrate anywhere in Iranian territory to carry out operations ranging from rescues to securing sensitive targets.

"This demonstrates to the Iranian leadership that we can get anywhere that we so choose and hold ground as long as we desire to accomplish a mission," Brent Sadler, a retired Navy captain, said on "Fox & Friends Weekend" Sunday.

"Not only can we rescue our pilots, but we can also go to where we need to secure nuclear equipment or the remainders of their leadership."

Sadler's comments come after the rescue of a U.S. Air Force weapons system officer (WSO) early Sunday morning local time after roughly 36 hours in hiding.

The pilot and WSO ejected from an F-15E fighter jet when it was downed over Iran on Friday. The pilot was rescued that morning.

Sadler said there have been reports that intelligence agencies and special forces from various military services were involved in the operation, and that America's regional allies also played a part.

"Our Gulf partners would have had to have given some clearance for the aircraft to fly through. They wouldn't know what it was for, and, of course, the Israelis, I think they [were] deeply integrated into this, to shift their targets and their attacks so that it would draw the Iranians away or keep them busy as we focused in on locating and exfiltrating our pilot."

Sadler added that the daring operation dashed any hopes Iran had of using the downed airman "for political purposes" or to stop U.S. military operations and said the successful rescue mission should underscore the seriousness of President Donald Trump's Monday deadline for Iranian leaders to return to the negotiating table.

"Despite going and hunting down and successfully exfiltrating our pilot, the operations and the attacks continued, which means that deadline that President Trump has given is very serious and the regime in Tehran better take it as such, because there's a lot more that's coming their way if not."
