White House roadmap says Europe may be 'unrecognizable' in 20 years as migration raises doubts about US allies

The White House warns in a stark new National Security Strategy that Europe could be "unrecognizable in 20 years or less" due to mass migration, adding that the demographic shift raises doubts about future U.S. allies on the continent.

"Should present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less," the 33-page document released on Thursday reads. 

It adds that the "real and more stark prospect" is of "civilizational erasure."

Mass immigration has been one of Europe’s most volatile political flashpoints over the past decade, fueled by repeated waves of immigrants from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

"As such, it is far from obvious whether certain European countries will have economies and militaries strong enough to remain reliable allies," the document says. "Many of these nations are currently doubling down on their present path. We want Europe to remain European, to regain its civilizational self-confidence, and to abandon its failed focus on regulatory suffocation."

The national security plan cites migration policies that are "transforming the continent and creating strife," along with "cratering birthrates" and the erosion of national identity. 

The White House warns the demographic shift could have major implications for NATO and European security, noting that several member states may become "majority non-European." That scenario, the document argues, could weaken Europe’s ability to deter adversaries and complicate U.S. efforts to maintain transatlantic stability.

"Over the long term, it is more than plausible that within a few decades at the latest, certain NATO members will become majority non-European," the document says. "As such, it is an open question whether they will view their place in the world, or their alliance with the United States, in the same way as those who signed the NATO charter."

The document says Europe’s economic decline is well under way, losing a 25% share of global GDP in 1990 to 14% today — "partly owing to national and transnational regulations that undermine creativity and industriousness."

But it says that economic decline is eclipsed by the broader warning of "civilizational erasure." It lists migration policies, censorship, political suppression, cratering birthrates and the loss of national identity as the forces driving that trajectory.

President Donald Trump echoed similar warnings during a visit to the United Kingdom last year, saying mass immigration would "destroy Europe" and that the continent was "not going to survive" unless governments dramatically changed course.

The White House defended the warning, saying Europe is already suffering the consequences of mass immigration.

"The devastating impacts of unchecked migration and those migrants’ inability to assimilate are not just a concern for President Trump but for Europeans themselves, who have increasingly noted immigration as one of their top concerns," White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "These open border policies have led to widespread examples of violence, spikes in crime, and more, with detrimental impacts on the fiscal sustainability of social safety net programs."

Kelly said Trump’s border policies "saved America from such destruction," adding that "other countries would be wise to follow suit."

The White House pointed to a range of European data to support the administration’s concerns, citing studies showing asylum migration costing the Netherlands €475,000 per migrant, illegal immigration costing France €1.8 billion in 2023 and non-Western migrants committing disproportionate shares of violent crime in Denmark and Germany. The White House also referenced a series of fatal terror attacks across the continent carried out by migrants. 

The 33-page blueprint has no named author but features a foreword by Trump, who calls the document a "roadmap to ensure America remains the greatest and most successful nation in human history."

The document forms part of a sweeping set of national security goals in which the president vows to enforce the Monroe Doctrine while adding his own corollary aimed at expanding U.S. influence in the Western Hemisphere and countering adversaries’ growing footprint.

The Trump administration asserts that a "reasonably stable" Western Hemisphere where governments work together to fight malign foreign influence is key to U.S. national security. To achieve this, the administration vows in the document to "assert and enforce a 'Trump Corollary' to the Monroe Doctrine."

Former President James Monroe issued the doctrine in his seventh annual address to Congress on Dec. 2, 1823, warning European powers against interfering in the Western Hemisphere through political influence or colonization. The U.S. Office of the Historian, part of the State Department, notes that although European nations initially paid little attention to Monroe’s declaration, it eventually became "a longstanding tenet of U.S. foreign policy."

"After years of neglect, the United States will reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere, and to protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region," the document reads.

"This 'Trump Corollary' to the Monroe Doctrine is a common-sense and potent restoration of American power and priorities, consistent with American security interests."

Senate Republicans demand vetting overhaul after shooting of National Guard members

Several Senate Republicans are calling for the Trump administration to revisit vetting standards for Afghan nationals following the shooting of two National Guard members last week.

In a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, over a half dozen Senate Republicans argued that it was "past time for the United States to revisit the deficiencies of the Biden administration’s vetting process for Afghan nationals," in the wake of former President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Their letter comes after the shooting of two National Guard members — U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, who was wounded, and U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, who was killed — allegedly by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan man that entered the country under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome in 2021.

Lakanwal, 29, was charged with two counts of assault with intent to kill, one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, for the alleged shooting late last month.

The lawmakers, including Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; James Risch, R-Idaho; James Lankford, R-Okla.; John Cornyn, R-Texas; Ted Budd, R-N.C.; Mike Rounds, R-S.D.; and Todd Young, R-Ind.; wrote that the Biden administration’s assertion that all Afghan nationals were following the withdrawal from the country in 2021 were subject to "enhanced vetting" was untrue.

They wrote that a 2022 Department of War inspector general report found that Operation Allies Refuge and Operation Allies Welcome, two programs launched in the wake of Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, did not use data from the Pentagon to vet Afghan evacuees.

Through Automated Biometric Identification System data, the National Ground Intelligence Center found that at least 50 people had "potentially significant security concerns," ranging from petty theft on military bases to fingerprints found on improvised explosive devices.

A later report agreed with the Pentagon’s findings and "further found that approximately 31,000 Afghan evacuees were allowed into the country before DHS could form a taskforce to vet and support their resettlement."

"Congress is further aware of potentially hundreds of evacuees that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has found to have potential links to terrorism after their arrival in the United States," they wrote.

The lawmakers demanded that the Pentagon, Department of Homeland Security and the intelligence community revisit the vetting standards for Afghan nationals, and implement the vetting procedures recommended by the Department of War years ago, identify and locate those evacuees discovered to have significant security concerns, and "seek immediate removal of such evacuees from the United States back to Afghanistan or other third countries, as appropriate."

Kirk’s beloved wife, Erika, was "determined to bring it into the world as a tribute to his legacy," and added a foreword to the book after his death, exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.

"I knew Charlie so deeply, in a way no one else could," Erika Kirk writes in the book's forward. "That is why I can say with certainty: these pages are not theory for him, they are testimony. The words you hold in your hands were the convictions he lived that were written on his heart."

"Looking back now, I see the book as one of Charlie’s most enduring gifts to the world," she continues. "He did not know how brief his time (on) earth would be—none of us did—but the truths written in this book are not bound by time. They will outlive us all, as will the legacy of his faith."

Erika Kirk, the now-CEO and board chair for Turning Point USA, goes on to thank readers for "opening these pages, for allowing Charlie’s words and convictions to take root in your own life, and for helping to carry forward the legacy of a man who poured himself out for his Savior, his family, and his country."

Charlie Kirk was killed in September as he spoke to a crowd at Utah Valley University. Authorities believe a single shot was fired from the roof of a building some 200 yards away. 

Charlie Kirk was 31, and the married father of two young children. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, one of the most prominent conservative voices in the country, sent a shockwave across the nation and mobilized thousands of young supporters on college campuses across the United States. 

Fox News Digital also exclusively obtained the prologue and introduction of the book, written by Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk wrote that he did not write the book to "affirm your lifestyle," but instead "to interrupt it."

Epstein island compound seen in new photos released by House Dems

Democrats from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced Wednesday that they have "received never-before-seen photos and videos of Jeffrey Epstein's private island that are a harrowing look behind Epstein’s closed doors."

"See for yourself. We won’t stop fighting until we end this cover-up and deliver justice for the survivors," Oversight Dems wrote on X.

"This production is in response to an Oversight Committee request to the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Justice for additional information to aid in the ongoing Committee investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes," it added in a statement. "The Committee also received records from J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank. Oversight Democrats intend to release files to the public after review in the days ahead."

President Donald Trump announced in November that he signed legislation green-lighting the Justice Department to release files related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The photos and video released by the House Oversight Dems purportedly show various rooms inside buildings on Little Saint James island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as other locations on the island.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act specifically directs the Justice Department to release all unclassified records and investigative materials related to Epstein and Ghislane Maxwell, as well as files related to individuals who were referenced in Epstein previous legal cases, details surrounding trafficking allegations, internal DOJ communications as they relate to Epstein and any details surrounding the investigation into his death.

Files that include victims' names, child sex abuse materials, classified materials or other materials that could threaten an active investigation may be withheld or redacted by the DOJ.

It’s time for President Trump to release all the files, now," House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said Wednesday in a statement.

"On November 18, 2025, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform sent a request to the U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General for documents, communications, and information pertaining to investigations or potential criminal investigations of Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell," the Committee said.

"We will continue to release documents and files as we receive them. The survivors deserve justice and the truth. We need the Department of Justice to release all the files, NOW," Garcia added in a post on X.

Senator renews push to mandate vetting for Afghan evacuees after National Guard shooting

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is reintroducing legislation that would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to ramp up vetting for Afghan evacuees brought to America following the U.S. military's 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Hawley first introduced the legislation in the immediate aftermath of the withdrawal, but it failed to make its way through Congress. The bill, the Afghanistan Vetting and Accountability Act, would require DHS to verify the biometric and personal information of all Afghan evacuees, as well as conduct in-person vetting interviews with the same.

The legislation would also cut off all federal aid to Afghan evacuees who have not undergone the vetting process, as well as require the DHS to provide Congress with quarterly updates on the vetting process.

"Joe Biden didn’t just botch our withdrawal from Afghanistan, he put Americans at risk by allowing tens of thousands of refugees into our country without proper vetting," Hawley told Fox News Digital in a statement. "My bill is going to codify into law what President Trump started: we’re going to protect our heroes and ensure anyone allowed into our country is not a threat to our own citizens."

The new bill comes roughly a week after an Afghan evacuee allowed into the U.S. under Biden was charged with shooting two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.

One of the victims, Sarah Beckstrom, died of her wounds. The other, Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition.

The alleged gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, faces multiple charges, including one count of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed. Attorney General Pam Bondi said that the Justice Department would pursue the death penalty against the suspect. 

Lakanwal entered the U.S. under Biden's "Operation Allies Welcome," which critics say failed to properly vet thousands of Afghan evacuees.

Another Afghan national, Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, was arrested the same week for posting a video of himself on TikTok indicating he was building a bomb with an intended target of the Fort Worth area in Texas. Alokozay also entered the U.S. through Operation Allies Welcome.

Tropical hotspot security alert warns of criminal gangs and 'armed robberies' at rental properties

The U.S. Embassy San Jose has issued a security alert for Costa Rica.

The alert was issued on Nov. 25, citing reports of recent property crimes, financial crimes and robberies.

"Tourists have reported break-ins and armed robberies at Airbnbs and other rental properties," the alert says. 

NEW ADVISORY SAYS 'TERRORIST GROUPS MAY ATTACK' IN POPULAR SUNNY DESTINATION

Nearly 3 million people visited Costa Rica in 2024, according to Instituto Costarricense de Turismo.

The alert adds that criminal gangs have forced travelers to withdraw large sums of cash from ATMs or by making bank transfers.

"Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive jewelry or watches," the Embassy advises.

Tourists are encouraged to avoid traveling alone, to stay vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs and to never leave valuables unattended in vehicles.

When renting a car, tourists are told to "double check [that the] vehicle is locked." The alert added that "thieves often use signal blockers to prevent vehicles from locking with key fobs."

As for financial crimes, tourists are encouraged to set daily withdrawal limits from bank accounts, minimize funds kept in any one account and discuss security strategies with their banks ahead of any trips.

The warm paradise is known for its beaches, rainforests, wildlife and adventure activities.

While all-inclusive resorts are popular, there are hundreds of rental properties available.

The alert tells tourists to research Airbnbs, rental properties and hotels in advance of trips. 

"Ensure the property has strong security measures, and keep doors and windows locked," the advisory says.

The U.S. State Department has had a Level 2 travel advisory in place since Dec. 10, 2024.
